Cate's Diary

Hi, Petal, Rob & Em. The rain was just lovely!
I haven't much time this morning & will come back later.
Yesterday-
2 eggs, 1/4 avocado on 1 oat toast
Cold corned beef, pickles & salad, fruit salad(kiwi fruit, pineapple, honeydew melon, orange, mango, mixed berries) & greek yoghurt
1 small glass red wine
Salmon & veggies (beans, cauli, carrots, spud, ratatouille & eggplant)
24g mixed nuts & 2 hot lemon drinks
1447 cals. I only had as many nuts as would make me stay under 1450.
Steps 6491, with a 3.1km walk in there.

I always love rain no matter what, but when it's helping to slow down fires or put an end to a long hot dry spell, boy is it ever such a gift.
I like ice cream (sorry getting in late to the ice cream conversation!), but I'm actually usually happier with just fruit and yogurt as a similar sort of dessert. Ice cream hurts my stomach. I used to actually really like a rice based ice cream when I was vegan. It had a very distinctive flavor that I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't like but I did!
fruit salad(kiwi fruit, pineapple, honeydew melon, orange, mango, mixed berries) & greek yoghurt
like that sounds perfect to me!!

Liza- I think I'll just steer clear of ice cream for now, but I bet I would like rice ice cream. I used to love rice cream! My fruit salad varies, but I always add some frozen mixed berries. I can buy them from our local berry farm all year round & they had colour & tang.
LaMa- Last night it was only 3 nuts to stay under, but they were delicious :)
Em- Thanks. I love eating well. It feels good to be extra conscious at the moment.
Petal- I am feeling much healthier & a lot less bloated. I think cutting down on the starchy carbs really benefits me & I am loving my walks.

Yesterday I drove G to golf & went back & picked him up. He was playing at his old course & I decided that I would put myself to the test of being in the same room as the DH captain. G had been asked to play by the president at his new club and it was a club challenge. I could tell it would be hard for G & he was uptight about it. He & I are both glad it's over & he feels it was a hurdle he has overcome. We both do. Neither of us will bother again. You can tell that some people are afraid to talk to G & are uncomfortable & that is sad & he does not need that.

I walked around town, wandering in & out of various stores, chatting to people & had a lovely time. I did some shopping at the whole foods store (got some more seeds- chia & a less processed almond meal) & came home for a couple of hours & had lunch & did some reading. @Emilyrose I read "Too good to be true" by Ann Cleeves. It's just a short story, but I love her books. The Vera ones & the Shetland detective, Jimmy Perez series.
I went back into town & went for another walk, this time around the river. I went back to the club & had a drink with G & the ones he played with & stayed for the presentation. G's new club flogged the local one :)

Yesterday-
Yoghurt, fruit salad, almond meal, one small piece of corned beef
Cold salmon & salad, 12 cherries
Bubbly
Cold corned beef, green tomato pickles & lots of veggies
Fruit salad with mango sorbet, 2 hot lemon drinks
3 nuts :D
1447 cals
Steps 6585

Thanks W2L. The rain was nice while it lasted & would have put some water in our tanks. We are solely dependent on rain water.
Rob- I easily could have eaten 100g of nuts! I literally weighed them out & could only have 3 solitary nuts, hence the 1447. I could have broken one in half & had it but that would have been obsessive :D
I'm determined to lose but I couldn't cope with 1200 cals a day!
Just got back from a 2.24km walk through the bush. Diet lemonade time. I'm hungry & it helps fill me up. Not a healthy option I know.
I have drunk lots of water today.

:D Yes it would. Were they Brazil nuts? Not many nuts are 6 kcal a piece. Yay for the new club thrashing Darn Horrible Captain´s club!
I have my bathers out & have tried them on & tried not to be self-critical. In the next month, I will go swimming & I will come to tell you about it.

Liza- it was a lovely walk :)
LaMa- they were mixed nuts- a piece of walnut, a cashew & 1 peanut.
I was happy G's club won :D
Swimming has to happen, by the end of Feb.

Well done on weighing the nuts . And on settling on a calorie allowance that suits you. Your food sounds good and filling. I bought some chia seeds yesterday for my daughter. We had some out of date ones although I read they are good for another 2 years minimum.

Good about G golf game and you facing the old club. I thought you had actually returned there yourself to play recently but maybe I am wrong ?

I need to follow your lead and start walking not sure why I am so bad at it. You are getting lots in . Well done

Your food sounds delicious. Corned beef and pickles is :drool5:

Also I couldn't survive on 1200 calories either. I'm aiming for around 1700-1800 average over the week I think and that feels like a struggle some days!

Cheers for G's club flogging the local one. (Reading between the lines, it sounds like the men there were also pretty ratty in the past. :( Or are just ratty full-stop.)

I know Vera as a television series - I like the character very much, but the situations are grim, and it can be tense watching.

(Swimming by February, eh? I'll try for that!)

Not many nuts are 6 kcal a piece.
Almonds also register at 7 calories a piece! That's why I've really slowed my consumption of those!

Good luck with the swimming Cate. I've got another 6 months or so to go before our waters are ready!...i can use that time to find a swimsuit!

It sounds like a lovely weekend, Cate. You guys are all so good with figuring out the calories. I'm going to at least try posting whatever I ate, but the calorie count will have to wait.

Petal- Thank you. I have been weighing almost everything & get a shock often. The walking is becoming a "must-do" so even when I just don't feel like it, I get out & put my hiking boots on & go. Last night I had to walk around the snooker table about 20 times to get my steps up, even with my morning walk :blush5: Walking in the bush is so much better for me than on footpaths.
I am back at my old club, but I don't have anything to do with the Sat comp & have not been in the same room as the horrible captain. I needed to just do it. I don't need to again though. I just play with the women on Wednesdays & am staying away from everything else.
Bib- I just can't seem to get my calories down any lower either. I could once, without a problem. 1450 is ok, but I may have to try to go a bit lower in a week or 2 if I don't lose some more.
Amy- The club has a real macho, blokey unhealthy "culture". I'm glad G has got away from it. The Ann Cleaves books are really good. I'm glad I put it out there that I will go swimming before the end of February. I haven't swum since Sri Lanka, back in May 2017. This is a big hurdle for me.
Em- The books are really good.
Liza- It's sad that nuts are so calorific :( I'll start having jerky as a snack again when I am actually hungry. I'll weigh some into zip lock bags.
Jack- I use My Fitness Pal, which makes it easier. I put stuff in before I have it usually & often adjust back to make sure I fit under my calories for the day. I won't mind doing it if I start losing consistently. Then it feels worth the effort.

BF- Scrambled eggs on 1 oat toast
Small corned beef, pickles & salad
Mango sorbet & fruit salad
12 cherries
1 diet lemonade
Sauteed venison liver with lots of veggies (about 7)
12 cherries(our neighbour gave us some) & 1/2 jazz apple
2 hot lemon drinks
1425
Steps 5360

I lost 1 kg the first week, but nothing in the last week. My scales only go in half kilo increments. I feel bloated today, but that may be from eating some brown lentils that I hadn't cooked- only soaked. Thanks, LaMa for telling me about that. I'll go cook them now.

I'm loving the swim-by-end-of-February pledge. You said swimming in the sea, I think? Mine will be in a pool, but it will happen!
A "macho, blokey culture" - urk! and sympathies for having had it impinging on you.
And re: the weight - onward and downward, even if it does go in fits and starts - it's still going! :D
