Cate's Diary

Hi, Amy. We'll all be glad when the forum is back to "normal".
She's not a new friend really but we reconnected yesterday. I don't think she's a particularly happy person. I think she needed someone to talk to yesterday.
Hi, Liza. The raking is great exercise. I did some more this afternoon. We're going to do lots of cold burns, when we get a chance, to feel better prepared for next Summer.

We all do, sometimes. Fingers crossed you´ll love the clubs!

Sounds like a great day Cate . I am wondering what is a cold burn ?
well if you take the new clubs make sure you pass your old ones on too and we keep on top of this decluttering .

Thanks, Petal. I should have said a cool burn. It's a burn that doesn't get too hot so won't reach tree canopies. Insects & animals have a chance to get away. This article will explain it- Indigenous Cool Burn a Revelation
G & I will do lots of little burns when we can when Winter is approaching. I am determined to get the leaf litter, branches etc out from the bush that is closest to our house. I want it to end up park-like. Lots and lots of raking to be done! It's my new exercise.
Yesterday-
Cals- 1600(?) I am finding logging very hard to do. I don't like spending so much time on my phone.
5131 steps
Off to the cardio today. I hope I'm not waiting umpteen hours again. It has been a long time since I have seen him.

I have been thinking about trying 5:2 again. It worked for me years ago & you really only have to count carefully for 2 days a week. Those 2 days can vary from week to week. So 500 cals only, 2 days a week & eat to your TDEE the other 5. I think I'll start next week.
I just did a quick check & my TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) is 2046 (that's a lot). So, if I eat between 1700-2000 on the 5 days & 500 cals on the other 2 days I should lose weight. I think it's worth another try.
I also went back & checked out how I went the few times I tried it & I got down to my lowest weight since 2007 almost 4 years ago. That's decided it for me. Thursday I start!

The screen I'm seeing now is looking closer to normal, anyway!

"Park-like" would be excellent - and I guess you know that "park-like" was how some of the earliest immigrant observers described the Victorian bush when they came?

Which two days will it be? Oh - just checked back up to find out - I see you'll just pick any two days in a week, as best suits. Makes sense! Soup and hard-boiled eggs - and celery? I love the crunch of celery. :)

Oh boy i don`t think I could do that at all. 500 calories! yikes! I would have to just lie on the couch all day.
But that`s great if it worked well for you before.
Looking forward to hearing about it!

How did the cardio visit go Cate ?
good luck with your new fasting regime . thanks for the link on the cool burn . It makes more sense and hopefully stops the spread of wild fires . It’s good for the ground by the looks of it .

Amy- I'm so glad the forum seems to be fixed
I'll aim for Monday & Thursdays. There is a lot of celery in my soup. I love celery.
Liza- I'll see how I go :)
LaMa- thank goodness!
Petal- My cardio visit went well. He wants my BP lower, so I won't be cutting any meds down. My aneurysm has grown a little, but he didn't seem bothered about that. I am going to buy a new BP monitor as he thinks my home one must not be accurate.
We were not waiting for such a long time, which was really good. We called in to pick up my new clubs & had a drink. I'm quite excited about them! I think they'll be really good :) I'm going to play with them tomorrow.
We didn't get home until 8.30

I also found the cool burn link interesting. It is similar to practices in Florida and the south eastern US (Fire Ecology Program - Tall Timbers ) many of the forests are intentionally burned every winter, when its cool and wet. The larger trees and the roots of many smaller plants are not destroyed but it reduces the fuel load making summer fires smaller and less destructive. And its good for wildlife and the environment. It is also natural, recreating pre-development conditions when natural fires burned slowly and pretty much all the time. Today all the roads and other manmade firebreaks and firefighting keeps that from happening. Sometimes the smoke was a bit of a nuisance, but I always knew it was for a good cause.

Sounds like your diet is going well, good luck with those 500 calorie days. I once would have thought that would be hard for me, but now I think I could do it. Not that I am planning on it.

Your cardio visit sounds like it went about as well as it could have. If your aneurysm ever looks worse is there anything surgical (or otherwise) that can be done to treat or stabilize it?

Hi, Rob. Cool burning done the right way would be a really good thing for our bush. I'm not sure we will be able to do it right, but doing small fires over Winter will help reduce the load anyway. I would have to stay well away though.
Doing the 500 cal days twice a week I don't think would be as hard as what you are doing. Having one lower calorie day, say 600 once a week might be a good maintenance tool for you down the track.
Re: ascending aorta aneurysm. I am on 3 blood pressure meds & statins & my cardio wants me to lower my BP even more. Scroll down to Surgery on this page. Mine is 4.2 cm in diameter, so hopefully, I will never need surgery. Thoracic aortic aneurysm - Diagnosis and treatment - Mayo Clinic
LaMa- thank you. He seemed fine with it all. He keeps stressing that I must lower my salt intake & get my BP down even more. I'll buy a new monitor soon.
I'm quite excited about trying out my "new" clubs!
Starting 5:2 tomorrow :)

Thanks Cate, now I know more about aneurysms than I did. Surgery does not sound like a pleasant option, I also hope you never need it!

Good luck with the 5:2, I'll be watching with interest.
