Cate's Diary

Thanks, LaMa. I have had a look at quite a lot of his stuff & it is very well done. He's very respectful.
Thanks, Marsia, especially for going to the trouble of looking that up. It will be a one-off if it does happen so I'll not go to Toastmasters. Joining a new club is possibly scarier.
This guy probably won't come to Tasmania just to do a couple of interviews, but if he does I'll make sure I know what line he wants to take & what questions he will ask & I will have a very tidy house. I'm very lucky to live in a house that is tucked away in the bush.
I'm doing my second "fast" day of the week today(about 500 cals. I'm looking forward to the scales dropping soon. If I stick with 5:2 it should happen. I have to make sure I eat to my TDEE or at least my BMR on the other days. I aim for somewhere in between- about 1800.
Today- G & I are going to go wood-gathering. He cuts & I load up & tidy up. We had a big old dead Blackwood tree that was collapsing, so we had a friend fall it. There is a lot of wood in it.
I'm going to have a bowl of chicken soup as late as I can & then chop suey for dinner.

That's weird. Our old apple tree had some branches I needed to cut down, but saw them too late in the year to do anything about them without damaging the tree. Well they just fell into my driveway and I chopped them up for firewood this afternoon. Funny we were doing the same thing today!

I like it! Mind you, I'm not going to get anything done with that tree, sitting on my bum in my chair. I'm on the move! :D

It was good to get the exercise on a FD. I went for a walk as well. I'm doing well today & just poured G a wine, while I'm sipping on a diet lemon, lime & bitters. I was not going to buy any more diet soft drink, but I think I will as they really help with FD's. I had chicken & veg soup for lunch, with some Miso paste added & it's almost 5 pm & I'm not really hungry. I'm feeling good.
One of the golfing women rang to invite me to lunch next Thursday & I said yes. I'll change my FD to Friday next week.

Do you rest on fasting days? Just curious.

Documentary sounds amazing!! I'm the same about being in the spotlight. Ash seems to thrive on it, he has a presentation in Sydney in a couple of weeks to the general manager and a few other bosses from the supermarket he manages. I would 100% freak out hahaha. Getting out of your comfort zone and pushing yourself is never a bad thing though!

I don't rest on fast days Lucy, but I am also careful not to overdo any exercise. I need to distract myself.
The documentary does sound amazing (as well as nerve-wracking). I will just keep telling myself that the info needs to get out there.
My sister said that "We are hoping to avoid any of the ratty people" so I will take that as a big compliment.

I´d say that´s only a BIG compliment if your sister is very judgmental where people´s appearance is concerned :p

By ratty, she means I'm not one of the "brain-retraining might miraculously "cure" MCS lot". There are a lot of people in the allergy group who have really whacky ideas, so she can't put the prospect of being in the documentary out there for anyone to put their names forward. It is a compliment that she thinks I am rational enough to get the message across. It is really hard to get through to a lot of people that MCS is not an imaginary illness. This doco maker has read Dr Anne Steinemann's research & wants to follow it up. If anyone is interested any time the link is here- https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2211335516301449
There have been lots of articles in the last year or so & lots of research being done. Kate Grenville, a well-known Australian author, also wrote a book called "The Case Against Fragrance", which is excellent, but won't be read by the people who need to read it. H & I are hoping that Kate Grenville will agree to be interviewed.
Weighed myself this morning after my second FD & still no loss, but am X-.5kg. It will happen.

Cool study!

I just weighed myself and am still not down to my 200.4 pound weight from last week. I think gravity is increasing on us!!

Ok, that makes more sense. I expect the documentary makers to seek out at least one such person anyway, if only as an example of how desperate this condition can make people. Which makes it all the more important to have some sensible speakers as well.

Cate
I think when you feel like you have lost weight it reflects onto the scales. So let's hope that you have . It's really hard work and I agree with Marsia feels a bit like gravity is against us . I know a lady who is losing lots of weight at the moment . She is my age but this is the first time ever she had tried to lose weight and is been extremely successful.
The yo yo dieting really affects most of us .

I think perhaps you will enjoy making the documentary. Lol maybe we should all do one as I love the idea of getting a tidy house !

I think the yo-yo dieting has caught up with us, but we have to keep fighting.
I wouldn't feel even slightly like participating in the doco the way I feel right now. I did some shopping, with a mask on, but lifted it up a couple of times when there was no-one near me, but the chemicals in the store must have got to me. I sat by the river for half an hour, drove out to pick G up & he drove home. I feel OK again now, but it shook me up. I have to stop thinking that I'm safe without the mask as being strongly affected really throws me out.
Non-FD today, so will have between my BMR of 1478 & my TDEE of 1773. I must keep remembering to change it as I lose weight (power of positive thought!) I just re-jigged it & said sedentary, rather than lightly active & my TDEE is quite a bit lower. I'll go change my MFP calories right now to 1650. Check!
Breakfast this morning ended up being more than intended as G got confused. Baked beans and eggs on oat sourdough toast.
Lunch was crackers etc (salad items, cheese & salami)
We will share a bottle of red wine tonight.
Dinner will be lamb chops & veggies.

Cate I probably should know but what is BMR and TDEE.

My mfp calories is 1470 and as my job is a sitting one I have said my life is sedentary.
I have started parking on the outskirts of town now when I doing banking and post etc and getting in a little exercise that way .
Breakfast sounds fantastic . Making me hungry !

Sorry about the chemicals today . Tbh I think of you all the time because they really are everywhere. My dear friend asked me yesterday best way to clean his shower . I do use some strong sprays for mine but I advised him to not use as he is starting treatment for throat cancer . I don't want him inhaling nasty chemicals. Which reminds me I must look up alternative methods for him .

I didn't know any of this stuff years ago either Petal. I'll copy & paste (& edit) from the fast diet page-
"Basal metabolic rate – the number of calories you expend sitting for 24 hrs doing nothing. We are using the Mifflin-St. Jeor equations to estimate your BMR which is believed to be more accurate than the more commonly used Harris-Benedict equation.

TDEE is the number of calories burnt in a day scaling BMR to the level of activity. This is the number of calories you need daily to maintain your current weight and is about the amount you should eat on the days you’re not fasting. It depends on how active you are. Regular exercise burns up calories and is good for you. Do it!

People have a tendency to overestimate the exercise they do, so if in doubt, choose the lower activity level."

I think it's nice that you think of me.
It's good that more people are becoming aware of the over-use of chemicals.
Cleaning showers is a hard one. I use an Enyo (microfiber) cloth, with fragrance-free multi-purpose liquid & I clean the shower when I'm in it. It requires lots of "elbow grease". I haven't found anything that makes this job any easier I'm afraid. I use bicarbonate of soda & vinegar a lot, but find it just doesn't do the job in the shower.

Thanks for pasting all that. Even though I have dieted for years I always just followed whatever plan the club recommended rather than making choices to suit myself . With my watch and apps and of course you guys I am now starting to learn and understand more .

Oh I told my friend vinegar and baking soda and a microfibre cloth . May go back to the drawing board . Feel so bad for him . If I didn’t live so far away I would clean it for them

If he has a health food store nearby he could ask them to recommend something non-toxic. I'll do some more research as I need something that works better. Microfibre cloths are meant to be good without anything else, so just using one on its own in the shower, but often might just do the trick. A paste made from vinegar & baking soda sure won't hurt.
