We're back home again *sigh*
Hobart was crazily busy!
R is planning 10 things at once & we are going to learn to worry less.
 
Banning poker machines in hotels sounds like a good idea to me, not really sure what's 'nanny state' about that, considering you can go to a casino and play them whenever you want. There's a time and a place for everything.
 
The nanny state argument does not go down well with me anyway, but here in Tasmania we only have 2 casinos. One is in Hobart, our capital & the other in Launceston. Our closest is 60 km away. I hate poker machines. I wish they had never been introduced in pubs & clubs. Our politicians are so weak & wishy-washy. It's about time someone took a stand on something.

Another Christmas party done & dusted.
I also hopped on the scales this morning & with 2 Christmas parties & a night away I have lost 1/2 a kilo. Win. 8 to go!

Poker machines are a threat for people vulnerable to gambling problems (and there´s a surprising amount of those). Casinos are, too, but they aren´t nearly as unavoidable. The city of Vienna banned all gambling machines outside of casinos a couple of years ago and the big argument against the ban was that people would just start playing online. Which is kind of like saying that supermarkets should be allowed to sell beer to 14-year-olds because kids will just get the next best hobo to buy it for them.
 
The machines are illegal in my state, but people still get around the law by using online slots and stuff. There's one place not even 2 miles from my house. Eventually, the law comes in and shuts the place down, but then they just reopen at another location with a different program and the cycle repeats itself. I went to the casino for the first time this past summer. I mainly played blackjack. However, I do not think I will go back because I can see how it becomes addicting and I have had issues with addiction in the past. For me, it would not be wise, so I'll stay away.
 
Another Christmas party yesterday & I had one very small piece of cheesecake, which was not worth it. It hardly ever is!
We have our sheep trapped in the small yard ready to be shorn this afternoon at 4 pm. Please keep your fingers crossed that we manage to get them done. They are quite wild!
 
Poker machines don't bother me, in fact, any kind of gambling machine really. Now cake shops, they need banning :rolleyes:

Thanks Stan. Shearing is underway & so far, so good. A young friend is helping G & the shearer & I was not needed. YAY! This time last year it was a nightmare. The sheep kept escaping, G had just had a Cancer op & it was very stressful. I'll wander back down shortly to see how they're going.
 
I remember you talking about the shearing last year. I agree about the cake rarely being worth it, it's all just habit really.
 
We had someone come in & help fix our fences & install a couple of new gates & that really helped.
Cake is rarely worth it. I should have thrown it away after the first mouthful!

I'm having my hair cut this morning & "the workers" have been asked to have drinks at the golf club at 11.30.
There is no stress involved with this Christmas. I haven't bought any presents & am giving the kids some money. We are having them up for Christmas breakfast & then the day will be spent on our own.
G & I went & played 9 holes of golf yesterday in the Turkey Run. I played the best I have for ages. I scored 22 Stableford points, which may have won me a turkey. We'll see today.
 
Thanks, Tru. I'm determined to try not to let the golf club stress me again. I know that I'll have to keep working on that, but I will. I didn't win the turkey, but did win a chook :)
I also bought the kids a good sleeping-bag each & will give them some cash as well.
 
A good chicken beats turkey for tastiness anyway, at least in my book. More crispy skin per gram of succulent meat :p
 
G & I had a lovely day yesterday, spent with our younger GK's. We took them for a drive & then D & A came up for dinner. D is working again today & I decided that we would take the 3 GK's for lunch today. I've left A in charge of his siblings- making sure they are showered & presentable & ready to be picked up at 11.45. We are taking them here- http://raspberryfarmcafe.com/
