Cate's Diary

When the joy has gone it's time for something to change. Sorry you had such a downer of a day, hope things are looking up asap :)

I´m sorry things suck right now, Cate. But you´re already working your way out, at least on the golf front. I hope D will be a bit more careful with his time in the future because feeling forgotten isn´t fun in any way. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

LaMa- you are a darling!
Perspective-
Seeing a whole bunch of little kids performing their little hearts out at their primary school concert. It was an absolute delight.
D brought his gf along & she & I sat side by side. That's an ice-breaker.
I'm really proud of our GD. She's 11 & on the cusp of puberty, is over-weight & a bit self-conscious but she was up there on stage, as a baby, with white towels as a nappy & a dummy & got into the spirit of it all. You could see that she was thrilled that we were there. Perspective. I'm glad I didn't play golf!

Well done, Cate's GD! I was never anything other than awkwardly terrified on stage and I wasn't overweight at all. Being able to get out and do your thing is a very useful skill off-stage as well.

G got the thumbs up from his specialist today, on the 12 month anniversary of his prostatectomy. "No need to see you for 6 months". :D
Have the younger GK's here & D is about to arrive. Steaks with lots of veg for us. Yum! Our new BBQ is excellent. It's a Weber Spirit. We bought a cover today & did our Christmas food shopping. It was a good day!
PS. Had sushi for lunch at a picnic site on the way home.

Yay for G´s health! My dad got a Weber for his birthday last year and he´s very happy with it as well.

Thanks LaMa. I'm so happy that he has the all clear! We love the Weber. It's a beauty!
Today marriage equality (i.e. same-sex marriage) became law in Australia. After feeling such shame at our government's ill treatment of people seeking refuge in our country it feels good to be proud of something humane. Compassion never goes astray. G & I were both teary watching the news. Thank you Australia!

Over here the supreme court finally decided to open up both marriage and the paper-dragon alternative (which has been reserved for same-sex couples so far) for all (consenting, adult) couples. Won't be implemented right away though. Well done, Australia!

My dad had colon cancer, and to hear that 'all good' clearance from the doctor is so fantastic. He went with me to yoga recently and had to fill in a form, and on the question of, 'Have you had any recent surgeries?', he wrote down 'No.' I questioned him on it, and he said it was 7 years ago. I couldn't believe it! At the time, he'd been through 5 surgeries in 2 years. It was such an amazing moment. My point is that it's so cool to be in the all clear and that you will probably be off the hook for many years to come now!

It's a positive step LaMa. Let's hope your government doesn't waste $122 million on a plebiscite like ours did. They could have just introduced a bill into parliament. What a waste of public funds! Glad it's done though. Watch the video after it was introduced. The public gallery sang "We are Australian" It was very emotional. Our future female PM I hope is in that video, wiping away a tear.(Tanya Plibersek)
Yay for same sex marriage in Australia!
And Yay for sushi! :D
I know. Thursday was a good day!
Sushi & fresh Vietnamese spring rolls are my favourite light lunch.

G & I did the rubbish yesterday(ours, an elderly neighbour's & the golf club's). It's a horrible job but a good one to have done.
We had a nice afternoon & evening at home & today we are doing a Spring clean. We have friends visiting tomorrow & their house is always immaculate. It's always a good excuse for a big clean-up.
G had decided earlier in the week that he didn't want to play golf this Saturday & was quite adamant about it. We had almost decided to join a specific Launceston club in 2018, but after driving in there & back on Thursday for his appointment we decided against it. It's a 120km return trip without playing a game of golf in the middle.
I was asked during the week, via email, to commit to doing the bar & running a comp once a month & I said no. (NB LaMa. I said no again!)
We have to find some way of playing golf without getting involved with stress & hassles. It is really only one single man (the captain) who is the problem concerning us. Something else happened on Tuesday directed at me that I am going to ask him about when I see him next. My question will be "Why?"
It is very convenient to play at our local club. It is inexpensive. We leave our clubs there for an extra $25 a year. Yes, only $25! We have a locker so can leave stuff there, like our shoes etc. It is just so convenient!

It is an amazing moment Em. That's wonderful that your Dad is in the clear so many years after Colon cancer. I'm sure you cherish every moment with him :beating:

You know what Cate? Forget the captain, you owe him shit, and you don't have to do anything extra to be a member of a golf club. Why not just say that you and G are not interested in being involved in the running of the club for your own reasons but that you love playing there and will still pay your yearly fees and play away? I mean, the golf club runs on fees, and the loss of 2 regulars is a big deal. I think just disengage from the running of the place and you'll be fine.

(If you want to play golf, the other club will not do.)

What Emily said. Also: saying "no" gets easier with practice. Don´t give reasons, be vague and change the subject. You can do it!

None of this "I'm sorry, but ...." either. I'm going to get better at this no caper. I said, via email "There are many reasons why I can't, but putting my family first is the main one."
G & I have had a very productive weekend & a lovely visit from old friends, K & S. 4 months ago he had the same prostate op that G had. K built our home. We have started planning a trip to Melbourne together. We get on well enough to travel together. I can imagine travelling overseas with them. It was a lovely afternoon!
