Cate's Diary

Thanks Q. Just completed my streak day 4! I'm loving it. I even had the urge to run, but thought I should be sensible seeing as how I was on a bush track alone!
Hi Tru!!!! There will always be crap & we just have to get through it. My new outside walking streak is helping me deal with it. I have wondering about you lately. How's life up there?
LaMa- I know! It's not fair. We really love those kids & will have to learn to deal with it. We won't be able to change how she is & will try really hard to continue not criticising her in front of the kids. I would hate to think how nasty she would be if she knew what we thought about her!

Good news!!!!!!!
We now have a date for G's op. It's the 7th of December. We get to go to Mum's wake in November (which I have been organising). I will catch up with my nieces & nephews, some cousins & my cousin's widow who I have never met & my sister won't freak out about it as much now that I will be there. YAY!!!

I found out this afternoon what most probably caused my really bad reaction on Wednesday. Someone had sprayed Gypsopholate near the practice fairway, which is right near where I felt the worst. I have never had bad stomach cramps with an allergic reaction to non-ingested( by mouth) chemicals/food before. The dizziness, itchiness, brain fog, anxiety, palpitations etc I have experienced after a strong exposure. It is listed as a side effect of Gypsopholate poisoning. It will be very hard to avoid. Most people think it's bloody safe! At least I have an answer

If I ask Ella to not wear anything smelly then her Mum will know that they are going to come here
How about using the "she's only 10" argument to keep her from wearing it at all? I know, easier said than done. Our 6-yr-old is absolutely fixated on wearing high-heels. She has this pair of plastic costume ones that she clok-clok-cloks all over the house, but is furious when we tell her she can't wear them to school.

Luckily, my wife and I are on the same page with kids being kids, I think even if we split up we'd be on mostly the same page.

Glad you found out that the glycoclakentusine* was the cause of your pain!

*worth noting that I typed "glycol" and then random-keyed it to come up with that pronounceable fake chemical name. Impressed? I know I am.

That is FANTASTIC news, Cate. Great job and on the streaking-lol.

I didn't spell it correctly-
Glyphosate (N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine) is a broad-spectrum systemic herbicide and crop desiccant. It is an organophosphorus compound, specifically a phosphonate. It is used to kill weeds, especially annual broadleaf weeds and grasses that compete with crops
Thanks folks. Am off to try once again to play golf! Be back later xoxo

Just a quick update to say I played 18 holes of golf today, with little trouble. No particularly bad reactions (other than the usual hayfever or whatever it is), I played better than I have for months & had a really enjoyable day. Not great golf, but that's OK. I much prefer playing with the men.
Streak day 5 :D

Thanks LaMa & Tru.
It's not raining today :D
G & I had planned on going for a hike on Sundays, but we both feel too tired to head out anywhere. I'll go fo a hike around a block to get my 2k walk in. I think that helped me to get around the golf course yesterday. It was annoying that I thought I had started tracking my walk yesterday on my phone, but I hadn't. I keep it in my golf bag when I'm playing. I'm a bit bothered about EMR & I don't think there has been enough research done on what it is doing to our bodies. I might just have to buy an old-fashioned pedometer!

Anyhow. It's a beautiful day today & I had better get moving!

I have to use glyphosphate to control invasive plants once a year, but fortunately I don't have bad reaction to it. Its also sprayed sparingly in isolated areas. I keep my skin and face covered when I use it. Sorry you had such a reaction.

Im happy G is getting fixed up!

Nice streak! Im super excited about your urge to run. Smart decision not to solo on a trail.

Don't worry about the electromagnetic radiation produced by cellphones. There's just no mechanism through which non-ionizing radiation could damage our cells/tissues. Plus they've been in use for a good long while now and if they did have bad juju we'd be seeing the effects in medical statistics. Which we're not.

Hi Q. I don't think it was a reaction to Glyphosphate after all. The spraying had been done a long way away from where I reacted the most. I think it might have been spray used on the farm across the road from the course.
Streak day 6 today :D
Hi LaMa. I wish I could feel more confident but want to believe you. I think I would like to get a Fitbit, but am hesitant, for the same reason.
Making myself walk outside for over 2km at least every day is feeling really good!

I just read about your exposure to chemicals on the golf course. I love science and I love 99% of the things it has brought into our world, but there ARE a few things I wish they would either fix or do away with completely. Pesticides and chemical sprays fit into the "fix it/get rid of it" category.

There is so many negative things that chemical sprays bring into our lives that it far outweighs the positives. They need to just stop using it.

:iagree: whole-heartedly Chef. Chemical pesticides have more negative consequences than positive ones.

I have had another really positive day. I ate well, I went for another walk through the bush (down to Wombat Hollow) ticked a lot of boxes, got a pesky letter from the lawyer, rang my brother & dealt with it.......
I felt really anxious about it for a while & then made the decision to deal with it & I did.
I really want to get a step counter as the apps I have tried on my phone use up too much battery.
Anyone got any suggestions? I am finding that I am doing well with making myself walk outside, but a step counter that I wear during the day only would make me move even more I think.

Had our AGM at the golf club last night & G is no longer Captain. :) It wasn't too bad. We don't have a secretary as B says she doesn't want to continue on. I'm not sure if she was wanting to be begged to do it again or she really doesn't want to. She's a pain in the bum really & causes a lot of trouble, but also does a lot of work.I really, really hope someone else steps up, but it's not going to be either of us.

LaMa, which fitbit do you have? I think it's a blaze. Does anyone have an Apple watch? I think I want a pedometer watch, that looks like a watch. This is the 1st time I have felt the urge to get one!

I will walk around the river today in town, while G plays golf. I'm playing tomorrow in the 1st week of the Women's Championships. My walking every day has really helped with leg tiredness. I can feel them getting stronger & I am less puffed already.

I had a weigh-in this morning & was surprised to see a gain. I have not done a "proper" fast day(<500 cals) for 2 weeks. To get my weight down I need to do 2 a week. Today is FD 1 of this week. D & a friend are coming for dinner & Snooker tonight, but I will have dinner with them & no wine. I have had celery for breakfast & have a FD soup that I am taking with me for lunch. It's all low cal veg & would be <100 cals.

That gain could be from the unaccustomed walking. Glad to hear it's making you feel better! I'll check my fitbit type when I get home. Charge HR? I don't think it's on the band itself; that's very minimalistic. People still assume it's a watch though :)

Chef and I both have Fitbit Charges. I didn't use mine for very long, but it seemed nice. I really need to find it and use it. Maybe that will be my goal for today. lol!

Thanks LaMa & Jen. I just looked at the Fitbit Charge 2. It looks like it would be simple to use, but is obviously a fitness band. I'll have a look at them when we go to town next. Cheers!
I'm off to golf today to play in the 1st week of the club championships that are played over 3 weeks. My handicap went out after Saturday's game, even though I played fairly well for most of it & it was flagged. I lost a flagged game that was much better apparently. It puts me in C-Grade:blush5: so at least I'm a chance. I have my new navy pants & new stripy shirt on & they feel really comfortable & look a bit snappy. Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to golf I go.........xoxo Cate
PS Your handicap is based on the best 8 games that you have played in the last 20 rounds. You add up those 8, divide by 8 & then multiply by .93 to get your handicap.
