Cate's Diary

LaMa- I am really excited about seeing her again. She is one of the loveliest, most positive women I have ever met.
Polly- I know. It was bad business. I live in a small community & when we owned a hotel, she & her husband were good customers. I will call in & check to see if they have corrected their menu.
Stacy- Thanks. I am feeling much better today. Now, G is sick, which has "muddied the water". I am now wondering if I had a bug & have passed it on!
Abby- I was ticked off & disappointed really. It is very wrong to advertise something as GF when it wasn't. It could have been way worse for someone else.
Today- G has had terrible diarrhoea & has been asleep most of the day! I now have no idea what is the matter. I can't imagine what we could have eaten that would have made us sick (other than wheat for me or the cream with the Pavlova on Sat). I give up thinking about it, but hope that is nothing to do with the catering for our golf tournament. We were responsible for it & there was nothing that it could possibly have been. We are so careful!
I gave G an Immodium, which I had put away for emergencies, about an hour ago & it has already fixed the diarrhoea apparently.
I hope that G & I are the only ones that are ill & that we don't hear that anyone we have fed in the last 2 days have been ill. My mind is boggling!
Fingers & toes crossed. I feel sure that mine was not food poisoning. G felt like his was nerves from all the stress of the tournament.

Oh no! I really hope it isn't food poisoning. That would be terrible to feel like you and he were at fault.

Thanks for your moral support Cory & LaMa, but I am seriously starting to worry about the food now. G has had bad diarrhoea all night. He said it is the sickest he has ever been in his life. (He has hardly ever been sick at all really.) The only thing I could think could have been the problem is the smoked chicken we got from the local butcher. I have eaten it 3 times in the last 3 days & had no ill effects. Other than B's husband we haven't heard of anyone else being sick. G has not vomited or felt nauseous, which you usually do with food poisoning. It is very weird. I should take him to the doctor I think & try to get a "stool" sample & have it tested. He even had trouble drinking anything yesterday, but this morning has had a piece of dry toast & 2 drinks. He says his stomach is settling. He slept almost all day yesterday. Poor thing!

I am going to come up with a plan for March. I'm thinking about it. It will include 2 fast days a week, daily exercise incl. squats & counting cals.

Oh no, hope G feels better ... sounds like a crummy flu or something. My daughter had one not too long ago and it was terrible. She was sick a sa dog for about 3 days.

Looking forward to your plan for March!!!

It wasn't me Cate! :biggrinjester: lol

So sorry for G. :(

Let us know your final Plan for March..Sounding good so far!

:grouphug:

Still not sure what it was, but he is better this morning & has just eaten breakfast. He was so bad night before last! I had made a doctor's ap't for this morning, but just rang & cancelled it. I got him to eat some dry toast & some crackers during the afternoon yesterday. He was so reluctant to eat anything.
I don't feel great I must admit & have Asthma. The weather has taken a turn & is cool.
Lazy day coming up again today. Rest & recuperate I think.

O dear, I really hope you didn't catch whatever G had... Get well soon and get thee to a doctor if it starts to look like you are going down that same road.

I have it LaMa! :ack2: Stomach cramps, diarrhoea, headache, very lethargic, no interest in food(there has to be a plus side), burping a lot......
I could hardly move yesterday. I usually take a sedating antihistamine at night, but I was too scared to last night, in case I had an accident in bed. Subsequently I dreamt all night & was awake for ages. I am drinking LOTS of fluid & will get some electrolytes into me today.I don't even feel like attempting dry toast. If I manage to get hungry I will though.
G is 100% & has gone off to golf. It is a 27-hole annual comp today & the barmaid is unavailable & almost all the committee are away. Yep, it is meant to be me doing the bar. G runs the comp & will be flat out & there is no-one else to do the bar, except me! :( I am needed there at 2pm onwards. Wish me luck!
Looking on the bright side. Surely I will lose some weight. Just kidding. G lost 2kg! What a way to do it!

I've had nights like that Cate:eek:I've just read that you used to have an hotel. I'm willing to bet that it was always full because you are such a nice person and word of mouth is so important isn't it.
I took a gap year, in the 1960's before it was fashionable to do so and I worked as a chamber maid. I could tell stories no one would believe.

So sorry you had to work while you were sick. Hope you pushed through okay and are feeling a bit better today. That flu sounds like no joke. We've had something similar going around down here in the southern USA. People are just flat on their backs and gripping the toilet for 2-3 days.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Polly-You're a honey. In Australia hotels do not necessarily have accommodation. Ours did when we first took it over, but we got rid of that part of the licence withing a year. It was way more trouble than it was worth. Our boys were only just 3 & 5 & there was no private residence. It was a big relief to not have strangers staying, We kept very long hours, 7 days a week for 18 years, until 12 years ago. Looking back I don't know how we did it. We did lots of meals (a really wide menu with the usual things like steaks, grilled fish etc, but also more interesting fare like West African chicken, stir-fries, Indian curry combination. It varied every day. Our biggest seller was roo patties. Yes, we eat our national emblem.) We had a very busy, popular bar & G & I did the bar together mostly, with help at weekends. We were on a highway, but out in the middle of nowhere, so used to get lots of sports buses. We had lots of regulars, who said they couldn't drive past without stopping. G & I are quite proud of the reputation our pub had. He was brought up in it.
Abby- It was not good, but I can say, with relief that I am over it. I wasn't as bad as G thank goodness.
LaMa- I did get through. I visited Mum on the way & took her outside for a while. I could have laid my head down & gone to sleep though. I rang my sister & put the phone on speakerphone so that Mum could hear her voice. I don't see any recognition any more, but that's just how it is. I almost always say "I love you" as I leave. When I got to the club there was so much fridge stocking to do, but I took my time & got it done. I then ate a packet of crisps as they were talking to me. I felt much better afterwards & drank 2 glasses of water & a gatorade.

I can now say I am fixed. I still don't feel like eating any meat, so I will stay with that until I actually feel like it. Last night I ate a plate of baked veggies & then later a small bowl of mango sorbet.

It is good to be well again. I will now formulate my March plan.
Love to all, xoxo Cate

I just have to share this cartoon with you. I love Michael Leunig's sense of humour. (I think he is bordering on insanity.) I have not worked out how to post thumbnails in here unfortunately & I have been copying & pasting. I'll try just posting the URL-
recent-cartoons

This had G in stitches of laughter. He had tears!
That didn't work!-

:D Ms Gladys is awesome! And I agree with Polly: no wonder your hotel was so popular. Glad to hear your belly is straightening itself out and yay for veggies :)

Thanks LaMa xo
It feels so good to be feeling well again. By this I also feel not stressed & that is a good feeling. It is like a black cloud has lifted. It's funny because the opposite is true with the weather. We have had one hell of a Summer. By that I mean it was a true Summer. Hot & sunny. Now it is cool & overcast. Not counting the awful bushfires we have had in Tassie it has been a great Summer- the best we have had since we moved back to Tassie. I have really enjoyed the heat

My March plan
is-
To do 5:2 (5 days of eating up to my TDEE & 2 days of <500cals)
"Your TDEE is: 8156 kJ / 1949 calories" ( The plan is to eat less than this on "non-fast" days, but this is the maximum)
A minimum of 20 squats every day. (I plan on building this up & adding weights as I go)
A minimum of 9 holes of golf every week. (I have not played at all during Feb)

I will weigh myself tomorrow. The hardest part of the plan will be getting out there & playing golf, especially with the women. I am playing on the 13th with G in the Capt. & President's day. Players come from other clubs & it is a fun, sociable day. I do plan on having more fun this year.

Thank goodness you are seeing improvement! :hug2:I feel for y'all! Was a miserable week for many of us! :ack2:

Great plan for March! You can do it! ;)
