Cate's Diary

^^^ re: background... one thing i miss about living in the northeast is seeing crocus and daffy-dils pop up in March... :)

(your kitchen island is bigger than my kitchen...!)

Hi, folks. I'll take a photo of our kitchen later & try posting it. I can't remember what size photos need to be here.
I felt so good getting out playing golf yesterday. We were the only ones on the course. We have decided to do that more often. I was very careful not to touch things like the flagpoles. I am using my non-dominant hand for opening doors, gates etc
We are going to pick up a supply of venison today. We will be well-stocked then.
I'll be back later.

It is difficult to be positive 100% of the time. You can be absolutely sure you're making the right choice and still be upset with the reality of your decision. Stay safe and keep your chin up.

Edit: Realized I didn't read all of your new posts. You seem less disappointed than you were a few days ago and I'm happy to see it.

Take a picture of the outside of your house too. I liked the description you put on my diary, made from rocks found on your land. I think the pictures have to be less than 1 mb.

That sounds great! Funny that you would be the only ones out there. Such a good sport to keep distance easily enough.

Thanks, Cory, Rob, Liza & LaMa. I think I'm doing well mentally with everything & exercise is helping. Tomorrow G & I will get out & do some raking etc for G to set fire to as we no longer need permits. On Sunday we'll go play golf again.
An old friend rang me today to say she is getting a female miniature schnauzer puppy in 8 weeks. She saw me asking friends on FB to keep an eye out for me as I have decided to get a dog. She lives in Vic. We had a great conversation & I have insisted on ALL of the photos! So cute!

Hi, LaMa, Rob & Petal. I have found a mini S breeder in Tasmania & I may ring today. I must admit I got really nervous about getting a puppy. I think a pound dog would be better & not a pup. Getting a purebred anything seems like an indulgence when there are so many dogs already needing homes. I deliberately do not have many FB friends, but I know a few have passed on to their friends that I am looking for a dog, so I should start to hear back. Also R's GF, K is a vet & she was going to mention it to a friend of hers who is also a vet up our way.
I feel my life has settled back down again & I am not feeling anxious. G & I are well set up & have enough food to last us a fair while. We now have venison & salmon in the freezer & our usual well-stocked pantry. I'm planting out some more seeds today. We'll still be able to grow Asian greens.
I have been doing Dutch lessons each day & really enjoying them.
My diet has been healthy & I have been doing one or 2 walks, but yesterday I didn't do quite enough. I have not felt up to fasting this last week. I tried on Tuesday but abandoned at 3 pm. I did do 16:8 that day though. I might weigh tomorrow & have a rethink about April. I'll start doing 20 squats a day I think in April, plus 5000 steps a day minimum, maybe 6000.....

Whatever dog you pick will be the right one, it always is! Enjoy the process.

Your diet and exercise sound good, walking a little more and adding the squats will help.

That all sounds really positive Cate! Very nice to hear.
It's very good when we have good homes to isolate in. Makes the whole situation so much more bearable for sure!

Yes keep us posted on dog decisions!

I´m glad you´re no longer feeling anxious and I agree that giving a pound dog a loving home would be the better solution if it´s possible. My parents tried last time though and all they could get were problem dogs - which can often be great companions if you have the time and know-how to rehabilitate them but usually aren´t an ideal solution if you have little kids running around.

Sorry to see you were feeling anxious. You really do sound as well set up as it's possible to be, both in your own household and being in Tasmania. Best wishes for today to go well for you. :)

Hi, Rob, Liza, LaMa & Amy & anyone else reading my diary.
I will start doing some work to get a small yard ready. The dogs I see in pounds are almost all Staffy crosses, Boxers, Kelpies or problem dogs as you say, LaMa. Hopefully, I will hear of one- perhaps someone going into a home who can't take their dog with them. At least some feelers are out there. My favourite dog is an Australian Silky terrier. I miss my little S.
My day ended with G running inside in a panic as one of his "little fires" got away, went through the fence & caught a very big gumtree on our neighbour's property alight. We fought that for about an hour, with the help of our neighbour & got it contained. I got my exercise in that's for sure. We are just not equipped to fight a fire. Our neighbour has sold her house & we may buy her small firefighting pump off her. We'll check it out.
G is not lighting any fires today. I almost rang the fire brigade yesterday. Almost.

Rob & LaMa- It was only scary until I saw it, but it sure got the adrenaline going!
I keep putting feelers out for a dog....
Went for 2 walks today.
