Cate's Diary

That all sounds lovely :beating: I'm sure I don't need to but I'll say it anyway: be very careful when walking an enthusiastic dog on uneven terrain.

Rob, he's a Springer Spaniel.
Liza, you're right. They really did lift my mood. R has rung since they left to say he has been stood down. We had discussed what might happen & worked out plans & options while they were here. I think he'll be fine. I'll start looking for a dog actively now.
LaMa. It was lovely. I won't get a strong dog. It's way too rough up here.

Cate they actually recommend now is a good time to get a dog as people have time to train them . I totally and utterly love our dog. Wouldn’t be without even though she is a tie .
good luck with finding a lovely canine friend

Keep up that confidence. This will pass.
It will, LaMa :grouphug:

Thanks, Petal. My heart tells me I need a dog. Heart beats brain :beating:

I am trying to change my government payments online & because of the huge demand for services due to so many people applying for gov't help because they have lost their jobs, it keeps crashing. I might try in the middle of the night. I had to look up my super balance, Boom. There goes $10K. Crazy times.
Time to learn some Dutch I think......

Dogs are such amazing companions. I am happy for you Cate. And good for you about learning some Dutch! I'm trying to make better use of my time now. It's easy to just get sucked into the internet or TV for me, so trying to spend the extra time I have well!

Ah, a new dog will be amazing.
It will be, Em. I'll try to be careful with the dog I get. I also need to build a small yard for a dog toilet up one end of the decking before we get one so that I can close off our veggie garden yard, which is up the other end. After having 2 large dogs visit for a couple of nights we have to be very careful we don't walk on dog bombs!

Thanks, Liza. I think we have to try to make the most of what is a terrible situation. I haven't done my Dutchy lessons today, but G & I went out to our local course & played 9 holes of golf. That was excellent. I haven't played golf since the 8th, so it was good. G & I will do that for the next month, once or twice a week. We were the only ones on the course. G didn't play at his course today because we felt they weren't being strict enough. Ladies golf at my course is cancelled until the end of May.
I ordered a Le Creuset frypan the other day & it arrived today. It is SO nice. This is the one I got. I always try to buy locally if I can but it was $100 cheaper online. I am never buying non-stick again. We are cooking salmon on it tonight.

Edit: Just did about 3 days of Dutch lessons on Duolingo. Fun!

nice looking pan. i have to say that my plain-jane Lodge is so well seasoned, it's virtually non-stick. my only frustration is sometimes the size. i got a 10" skillet, but with the sloped sides, it's really only an 8" pan on the flat. i'm thinking of getting a 12" pan though i'm not looking forward to probably double the weight.

I love the weight of the 12" Le Creuset, flyer. I decided to get the biggest as we have 2 good small pans.

Cate I am fed up of non stick pans . It always comes off . I might have a look at the Kennedy cruseut . I have a good bit of their stuff .
your fund will go back up in time . A small fund I have took a 3k hit over night . Wiped out a qtr of it . My son is raiding his savings this week as he is going to invest now !!! I am nervous but it’s his money and he has a huge interest in the markets.
I can’t wait till you get your dog . So exciting lol .

The little Tefal frying pan my mom bought me when I left home... 22 years ago ( ) is still my favorite. Not a scratch on it. Of course it´s never seen the inside of a dishwasher and I never use metal implements with it.

huh... i'm glad i checked the Lodge website. aside from their standard line, they have a "Chef Collection" which seem to be a bit more sleek. whereas their normal 12" skillet weights over 8 lbs, the Chef Collection 12" is about 6½ ... the same weight as your fancy enameled one, but a little more budget priced at ~$40.

and i'll just add again... if you treat cast iron properly (not that hard), it will be as non-stick as a coated pan with the added flexibility of being able to use any sort of utensils with it.

As long as we are talking pots, here are my two favorites.

My stock advice is to quit looking at them, try to forget it until this is all over. That's what I am trying to do. Petal, your son is probably the exception, he can afford the risk and it will be good experience for him. Maybe he will make some money off of all this, I hope so.

Cate, good luck with the dog, I really like dogs. They are a good way to "pre-clean" those cast iron pots!
