Cannon's Journal

Hey Cannon!! I'm glad you are going to try to stay on track for the weekends.
Maybe just have one day where you are "off" as opposed to the whole thing. You'll see results!!!

This weekend will be easier because I expect to be a bit of a homebody and then next weekend is the Super Bowl and it gets tougher again. Today I have to spend a personal day to go organize a science fair and I'm not happy about it. It seems if I'm on school related business it shouldn't penalize me. I'm going to exercise willpower and avoid the doughnuts in the morning. The lunch they provide is much healthier and I will indulge in that

You have to choose your battles

One thing I have learned is that you have to choose your battles. I chose one today. I had to take a personal day to go work the area science fair. There was a team there from a school for children with special needs that had to fight to be there. There weren't supposed to be group projects, but these four students had worked together. There was a student in a wheelchair, a student who had been in a car accident and had a brain injury, another student who had some serious disabilities, and a girl who wasn't at the fair because she had a traceotomy tube and couldn't move. The project was amazing. We had 3 experts judge their project and when the dust settled they were ranked number 8 out of 70 projects. The top 10 would be going on to the all-city fair. I was videotaping the fair and they were amazing. The kid in the wheelchair named Nathan knew the project and the science behind it and he was such a smooth talker.

The problem was that because that the area science coordinator didn't want these kids to represent the area at the city and told their teacher, they couldn't go to the city fair. We gave the coordinator the score sheet and didn't identify them in anyway. When the coordinator called off the names (which I videotaped) you could tell she wasn't happy. The crowd let out a loud roar as the one boy wheeled up to accept his award. He asked for the microphone which totally took my friend by surprise, but she gave it to him. He said "Thank you all so very much. I couldn't have done it without my team". Their teacher began to ball their eyes out as did their parents. The coordinator grudgingly shook their hands.

This wasn't a pity vote. You might give those kids a good score, but you don't give them one of the top scores out of pity. They deserved to go. I think it'd be way too embarrassing and illegal to knock them out now. We'll be blamed for this, but you've got to pick your battles don't you? These kids deserved their advancement and we managed to get it for them.

I had a good day with food. I avoided the doughnuts. I had a potbelly roast beef sandwich which isn't too bad and a Chicken Caesar's Salad for dinner. I also had a light beer (after work) and an individual sized bag of doritos.

Well done! good on you and them!

I would have done the same thing. I had an incident with a friend the other day who was over, she was spouting off about how handicapped children should be in their own classes and own schools and not in mainstream etc etc yada yada.
It was taking time off her kids or some other crap. Not only was i absolutly stunned and astounded, but a another friend who was over is actually a rehabilitiation export for handicapped children :O

I pointed out that my sister who has cerebral palsy is probably smarter than her kids will ever be (shes at CERN physics lab in switzerland ffs on scholarship!).

Some people are too quick to judge.

I'll be following your posts. Since I've been drinking so much water my taste buds have changed. Food is tasting better and I think I'm losing my taste or preference for refined foods as I reach for my goal. Way to go. Congrats on your progress. Knockem dead at the convention.

Well I'm now at a lower weight than I was before the holidays :). I'm glad that I can now start making my way below the 400s. As for what happenned yesterday, I reallized what great people I have for friends because my two friends didn't hesitate a bit to do what we did and that woman can make things a lot tougher for my friend Sue than she can for me. I didn't argue over having to take a day off to work, but some things you have to take a stand for.

Good for you Cannon...good for you...they desereved to win and move on...just kinda goes to show what kinda world we are living in huh...all looks good with you as always...:D:D:D

Great work cannon on keeping the world a fair place. That's very important, no matter what might differ you from "normal". And good on the food, one day at a time:)

Well she came to school today and accused us of manipulating the whole thing and taking her for a fool, but I do have a pretty good ability for dealing with irate people and I knew the dvd I was filming was something she was still going to be counting on us to make for her. After greeting her in my most cheery way I told her how great yesterday was and how I got some great footage of her boss working with the kids. I had a totally wasted day babysitting her when I should have been able to work on report cards, but when she left she was in a completely different mood--and those kids are going to the city fair!! :)

Unfortunately, I'm probably going to need to look for a new school. We're going to got a year round calendar with 4 different tracks where one is off all the time. Its the same number of school days, but I have no desire to be a part of it. My current school has been a home to me and I hate to leave after 6 great years, but I think the time has come. I'm going to post some before and after pics. I'm pretty excited to be back below my graduation weight.

Top top it all off tonight I picked up something called Spy Sherrif. I hope I got rid of it. it blocked safe mode so I used Hijack this to remove anything that looked fishy and then did a system restore to two days ago. The really odd thing was I wasn't anywhere online but this site. I think it may have come from the Ritz camera cd with the Christmas picture somehow. I hope its gone. Its a nasty one.

Well it been a decent weekend from a food standpoint and I got a lot done, but I really do dread another job hunt. The main thing I keep telling myself is that the 4 main reasons for staying at my current school are all going to be gone so it is time to go someplace else, but I hate it when people try and move my cheese.

Hi Cannon thanks for dropping by my diary!!

I hate job hunting too!! I am going to try and have a "I have no opinion attitude" at my job to see if that helps... if not I out of there!

How does the saying go... when one door closes another opens...

Good luck!

Hey Cannon...just caught up with you...that sucks about leaving after 6 great years but maybe it is time to go have great years somewhere else...your doing excellent by the way...I saw your pix and you look so good right now...sorry to hear abt hte virus...they are nasty in general...

Hey Cannon,

I've actually never gone on a jobhunt. I've only worked for my dad on the farm and on a restaurant for 5 years, but I totally get the whole leaving the beloved workplace. On the other hand maybe the new place is even more fantastic:) So good luck! See you later.

I just got back from dinner. It was a low cal affair until I had desert. On the bright side I discussed my career options with my sister and I'm more convinced than ever that I am doing the right thing by leaving.

Good for you for making up your mind and sticking with it; sometimes you just gotta move on. How's your week coming along?
