Calling everyone from the UK

Just wondering...anybody around here from the greater Manchester area? Just asking because I'm pretty much on my own here, and don't know anybody but my husband. :( So, if there's anybody in the area and maybe interested in meeting up (the more the merrier), give me a shout! :)

Hi my name's Laura and I am from the Liverpool area! Good luck everyone! I haven't yet worked out how much I need to lose but I think it is about 100 pounds! x

Nope, bloody cold would be more like it! :(

The whole snow thing over here is ridiculous....they closed down schools because of 3 inches of snow, because the city sold all the snowploughs and gritters.

I always thought that all the idiots are living in Germany, but after 3 years in the UK, I can safely say that they are much worse over here....I think I'll rethink applying for British citizenship....*lol*

LOL...I lived in the UK for six years and never became a citizen.

*lol*...can't blame you. I've only been here for three, but could apply because I'm married to a British citizen....nah, don't think so. I think I'll keep a backdoor open to head back home....*lol*

San & txsqlchick...

so you're both really saying you don't think much of the UK then?? so why are you posting on a thread for those of us from the UK???

anyway...........

hi!! only been on here 2/3 weeks...but lost 5lb already...yay me!!

just noticed a few on here from liverpool...so a special hello to you!!

always amazes me how many ppl go on about the weather in the uk...even ppl who live in/who are from the UK!! we don't live near the equator FGS!!

britain is an island country & the surrounding sea gives us a varied climate. we have cold weather during winter...& yes sometimes snow!! lovely spring sunshine...& april showers!! & my all time fave...crisp autumn days :) i love our changeable weather...living somewhere with constant hot sunny weather would bore the knickers off me!!!

I post because I live here, plain and simple.

Been living here for three years, and have yet to experience anything like what you described. For the last three years it was raining in spring, then there was one week of sun in around May time, followed by rain until about November. A couple of cold days, then more rain which turns into snow and and ice (at least this year), which caused a total chaos because nobody was prepared for it. I don't think I've ever had to stay home from school because of snow, but my son was home for over a week this winter. It's ridiculous. And now it's raining again. I wouldn't call that varied. And it's just as boring as constant hot temperatures. I'd give a lot for some 'crisp autumn days' but so far, all I got was wet, muddy and foggy autumn days. And spring days, for that matter.

Admittedly, it's nothing that anybody has a lot of influence on (apart from the snow removal situation, which is a completely different kettle of fish), but it's still annoying. And it's not the only thing....but let's not get into that. Let's just say if I had known three years ago what I know now, I would have told my husband that if he wants to be with me, he'll have to live with me, not the other way around.

Congratulations on your weight loss by the way, you're off to a good start. Keep up the good work!

yes...but you are not from here are you??

so if you're not happy living here doesn't it makes sense to post somewhere else?? mabe then you would have cheerier posts to make instead of the weather...again...

aren't you glad you didn't locate to alaska i hear it gets a bit nippy there too!!LOL

everywhere has good & bad no matter where you are from or live. personally i love the UK and doubt i would ever leave...well except maybe to a brownstone in NYC.!! but who wouldn't?? i didn't want to leave when i stayed there...i did live in italy yrs ago & loved that too. i also stayed in goa for several months....& again loved every minute of it...the culture, the ppl, the food (yum!!) i suppose it comes down to ones character...are you the type of person who embraces different cultures & places when you visit...or do you waste/spend your time moaning about the weather?? the food not being what you're used to?? everyone not speaking english etc etc etc...

then again i'm from the 'republic of merseyside'...& we're a law unto ourselves!! hahaha...of course you have to be from the UK to get that...

this is a weight loss forum...its not a place to point score re the country you are from...or rather in the case of the US the state you are from as its so vast...or else i will bring up the bush years LOL

as i've never posted in this partof WLF before i'll leave you to it anyway...

Wow...well, as someone who has been where you are right now, I wish you the best of luck. Sincerely. Make sure you tie up all loose ends before leaving the United States, and remember to keep filing tax returns every year that you are away. You'll need a full 1040 and a 2555. You'll most likely never make enough over there to not qualify for the full foreign earned income exemption (currently around the $80-$85k mark) because salaries there are so low, so you won't be "double taxed". Good luck.

yes...but you are not from here are you??

I'm not from the UK either, but I post here. I lived there for six years...I earned it.

Like she said, she posts here because she lives in the UK.

Uh...for starters, most of the food in the UK is the same as what it is in the USA, so it can't be that. Can't be the language either. Pop culture in the UK is really not all that different from the USA. What else is left? Climate and people. Can't change the climate...some people don't like cold wet weather. Being from Texas, I had not experienced much of that before moving to the UK so I didn't know if I'd like it or not. Turns out I didn't. As for the people...well...the less said, the better. I still have friends over there and some people there were incredibly kind, lovely people. Others were not. I also found the racism, sexism, and homophobia evident in my workplace in Yorkshire to be completely unacceptable.

then again i'm from the 'republic of merseyside'...& we're a law unto ourselves!! hahaha...of course you have to be from the UK to get that...

Uhhhhh ok.

Yeah, because I've never heard English people score on Texas before. Ever. It never happened the whole 6 years I lived there.

Leave her alone; I understand how she feels. It is NOT easy to move to another country, find it's not suited to you, then feel that you can't say anything about it to the people around you because they will all respond exactly the way you did.
