Calling everyone from the UK

leave who alone?? i'm assuming san is an adult & capable of speaking for herself...

you lived here for 6 years...in yorkshire...& earned what?? the right to slag off the whole country?? behave...

& so in texas there is no 'racism, sexism, and homophobia'?? blahblahblah
get over yourself!!

like i said good & bad everywhere...but theres far more good in ppl i believe. but then again i'm quite a positive person/glass definitely half full...the way you perceive the world around you is very much a reflection of your own thoughts/feelings...as it is with anything you do/say...

'we are what we think. all that we are arises with our thoughts. with our thoughts, we make the world'
Buddha

so why don't you spit out those feathers...& go have some happy thoughts & spread a little joy today...

btw this thread was meant i'm sure for those ppl who are from the uk...not who lived here at some point or live here for now...do you really fail to see the distinction?? or are you just intent on being a bit of an arse?? (or ass if you prefer...) hmmmm i'm thinking its the latter...

anyway like i said to san feel free to pm me further on the subject but i don't wish to fill this thread with such negativity...after all that was your aim. plus i have better things i could be doing...& think of all that naysaying you could be doing...jesus i bet you're the life & soul of the bleedin party aren't you?!

The right to speak with an informed opinion, yes. I've lived in both countries. Most Americans and British people have not.

Of course there is, but there was far more of it in Yorkshire. It was shocking.

so why don't you spit out those feathers...& go have some happy thoughts & spread a little joy today...

Thanks, but the person here who appears to be upset is you.

Is this that "glass half full" positivity you were talking about? Also, let the record show who is calling who names here. I didn't call you a name, yet you feel free to call me an "arse".

Again with the "glass half full" positivity. I don't believe I will PM you on this subject because there is nothing you can say to me that British people did not already say to me when I was living there; it would be a waste of my time. I spoke up because I saw San being attacked for expressing the same feelings that I felt while I was living in the UK. I understand how she feels. You need to realize that while you may like living in the UK, plenty of people do not. You should also accept that while you feel you are a part of the Rhythm Nation, many British people are not accepting of immigrants no matter where they are from. How else could you explain the popularity of the BNP in areas with a large immigrant population? Also, it is particularly difficult being an American in the UK when British people seem to share the universal sentiment that they are our intellectual superiors (sorry, you guys aren't).

Also, if you don't wish to fill a thread with negativity, it is probably a good idea to start by not calling people an "arse" or implying that they're not fun at parties.

Have a super day, and good luck on your journey. With your positive attitude, I'm sure you won't need much luck. :seeya:

txsqlchick, thanks for what you said. There is not much I can add to that actually, you hit the nail on the head! :)

baglady, I'm not going to waste my time with pm'ing you or anything like that. You obviously have a problem with anybody who doesn't share your opinion, so we'll just leave it at that. Especially since I'm not even American, and I don't want any abuse thrown at me for my actual nationality. You already gave a prime example of that in regards to Americans, and I really don't want to see any more of that.

Maybe the internet and forum's aren't such a good place place for you though, since you will always encounter people who might have an opinion different from yours, and they might even have the guts to voice it.

Oh, and just for the record....please point me to the part in the original post where it said that this thread is for people who were BORN AND RAISED in the UK only? I must have missed that.....

txsqlchick...

calm down clam down!!
i never said you were an arse i said you were behaving like one...

you can't come on to a thread for ppl from the Uk slag it off & expect no comeback...i wouldn't go on to the US board & do that...

i lived in yorkshire...for seven years in fact. to some there even i was an outsider due to my scouse accent...you either love us or hate us...of course i think we're all fabulous!! :D but i digress...

i don't wish to offend anyone on here from yorkshire b/c i met some very wonderful ppl while living there...but yes i did notice a difference in attitudes there from the city i am from...but only from some not all. isn't that always the way?? ppl in rural communites are often different from us city folk. saying that i really liked sheffield which wasn't far from me there...& hardly rural!!

yorkshire is a very large county...if you got to know the ppl there you would know that ppl from north yorkshire are different from south etc. as it is with the UK as a whole...just as there are many differences between the various states in the US...but more often than not these differences are usually a wonderful thing as its what makes ppl & the places they live in so unique...

how monotonous would it be if we were all the same??

i would speak out against racism, sexism, and homophobia wherever i found it. my issue with your comments is that not only do you dismiss the whole of the UK b/c of your bad expeiences in yorkshire..but you taint the whole of yorkshire b/c of your experiences in the town where you lived too.

i lived in doncaster & had a terrible time with teenagers for a while...who thought it was funny to shout things of a sexual nature & generally harass a woman living on her own...with a child with special needs (go figure )they just wanted to get me angry so i'd shout at them basically...nothing better to do i suppose...they soon stopped when i hit one of them with a piece of bamboo from my garden when some of them climbed over into my back garden...he didn't have such cool street cred with tears...but he was about 16 not 6 & i'm only a tiny little woman LOL (5ft 3) so its not like i was bullying him!!

the area i lived in was a former mining village so most of the familes had lived there for generations so not all were exactly welcoming but most were lovely...& i would never let those that weren't colour my feelings about the whole town. i've been back home in liverpool for about 2 yrs now.

anyway...seriously...
if i wanted to argue so much i'd keep in touch with my family...or ex husbands...god forbid LOL

tell you what i won't post here again...so i'll let you even get the last word!!

btw i gather you didn't get my joke re 'republic of merseyside'...honestly it was funny...no really it was....you see us scousers are known for being...well sarcastic & a bit feisty...so 'a law unto ourselves'...get it?? oh well maybe not...:D as for what you said about ppl in the UK thinking they're better than ppl from the US...hmmmm i don't know about that particularly...like i say i'm from liverpool...& we just think we're better than anyone...from anywhere!!! don't worry...i'm kidding...no really i am LOL

hmmmm excuse me missy i love americans...all the ones i've met have been lovley anyway & its mostly americans on WLF... & i wouldn't come on here if i didn't like them...which i do...so please don't try & twist my words...

but like i told your mate...don't expect to come on here slag off the UK on a thread for those from the UK & not think someone from this little isle might not have something to say about it...

btw the pm comment?? a bit of sarcasm there...though i did think the 'chat' might have been a good indication of that...

so do you want another go around...or shall we end it 'right now'??
your call...

I can't quite believe all of this!

I've just started to diet, and have quite a lot to lose, so registered on this forum and, as I'm from the UK, visited this section first. I really wish I hadn't bothered. I was hoping to find supportive, like-minded people but, instead, have just read a lot of petty bickering.
I'm left feeling that I wasted my time when I registered.

I feel so sorry for the administrators of this site, and for those who, like me, were hoping to find a friendly community. What a shame!

I'm sorry you feel like that, and I can reassure you that is not the way things usually are around here. If you check the rest of the forum, you will see that people are more often than not friendly and supportive, and you certainly didn't waste your time coming here.

It's unfortunate that this thread turned into what it seems to be now and puts people off, which was never my intention, and I am sure, nobody else's either.

I don't think it's important where you come from, embrace each culture in the land where you are residing.
America is a great place as I lived there for 12 years and then I lived in Germany for 18 years and that too is a great country and now I am residing in London where I originally grew up, it's an amazing city.
We all have one thing in common here on this site and that is to lose weight.

I had a brain haemorrhage/stroke last March, I had lost 21lbs before the haemorrhge but over the year I have put that back on again.
I have started again and hopefully I can succeed with the weightloss.

I have mine from . You can create one there, choose the layout and stuff, and in the end they'll give you a code. Copy and paste that code into your signature, and you should be good to go! :)
