That's still a significant amount of weight to have dropped so quickly, though I understand why it wouldn't feel like much of an accomplishment if you're treading old ground.

Do you use a stationary bike? I've been considering getting one because the terrain where I live is so mountainous and not great for a beginner on a bike. :p

Yep...stationary bike. I told the dude at the bike store I wanted a recliner with pedals....He didn't laugh
I just put on my headphones and get something with a beat going and start sweating

I have a tiny tiny tiny bit of momentum and a good weigh in this morning to launch me into this weekend....Here goes

Tiny positive thing to report.
So I run the scoreboard for my schools football games. The press box is up this steep tall set of stairs. After just 8 out of 12 days exercising and only 5lb lost, it was noticeably easier getting up there tonight...it's the little things

3 day weekend,
I declare this the weekend-O- fitness!
Rode bike 26 minutes 6.41 miles Gaining stamina quickly.
I have exercised 9 out of 13 days
I have had no fast food in 7 days
I am picking up a little steam

Thanks Cate...I sure hope so. I bet I have lost and gained that 5lbs 20
Times. But not dwelling on that.... instead.... I rode that old stationary bike 7.04 miles and 28 minutes this morning. that's 10 out of 14 days. And, no fast food in 8 days. The bad news is we had a luncheon after church and although I didn't go bonkers ! I ate about 75% of my calories for the day so it's gonna be a really light dinner and that's gonna be hard for me. I usually like most of my calories in the evening. Gotta get mentally tough tonight when those food craving demons come calling

Final report of the day...
Food craving demons attacked...and I kicked their ass!
Only ate about 500 additional calories after lunch. Total for the day about 1700.

Tomorrow will be. Another good day...I can feel it.
(Now brawny exits singing an old eagles song)
"So put me on a highway and show me a sign
And take it to the limit one more time"

Ok...that was a good day. Had a day off. got up pretty early drank 3, yes 3 cups of black coffee and did 4 hours of outdoor work on my property. Drug brush, burned brush and mowed. Total calorie intake today was 1500. Then to top it off I rode my stationary bike for 25 minutes this evening. Pretty good day for a fat boy.
I have exercised 11 out of 15 days
No fast food in 9 days.

I feel good about my start but I know I have done this before only to sputter after a few weeks. So I am trying to get my head around the issue of what can make this time different.

My head isn't fully awake yet. I read "drug brush, burned brush, and mowed" unable to get my brain past a hairbrush and was really wondering about the state of your scalp for a second :p

Great that it is going well brawny! Also good that you are reflecting a bit on why it went wrong last time and paying attention to see if the same could happen now. Personally, my #1 reason why I get off track is that I push myself too hard, too soon, setting goals that are too high for that moment, and then I start deviating from my goals, because they seem like huge cliffs that are too hard to climb. So, in order to be successful, I often have to remind myself to be patient.

Do you know why you failed?

In the past, I have let a setback like an injury or a illness derail me. I know I have done poorly and so I avoid the scale because I know I am not going to like what I see.

No matter how fast I run, I can't get away from me.

Ok today is one of those days that we all must learn to deal with or we get knocked off track and I CANNOT let that happen.
Disappointment #1- I was near perfect all weekend I had exercised every day and eaten 1500-1800 calories each day. I got on the scale this morning and I had lost a measly .4 lb. Still I should have seen it coming after losing 5lb in week 1. But I just thought I might see a pound or 2 loss. So here is how I am going to try and look at it. I am at just about 6lb lost in 2 weeks. I would have been completely happy if I had lost 3 lb per week so I will be happy with the total.

Potential pitfall of the day- I fear anything that gets me out of my normal routine. Tonight I gotta go about 60 miles away to watch my daughter play volleyball. Gonna be tempted by the concession stand nacho demons and the fast food demons. I gotta get my resolve together to overcome. I bet I could undo this whole good two weeks I have strung together in one night if I really faltered. You see I am going by myself and that is when I have really really done some ugly fast food fiascos.

I am getting mentally prepped. I am glad I challenged myself to no fast food for 100 days. Today is day 10. That gives me a bit more incentive

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it. When you drop that much in a week, some of it is simply going to be water, and eventually you wind up adding that back. So even if it's just a modest drop, it might just be losing some bad stuff but gaining some water.

As far as dealing with unfamiliar territory, I always think the key is to not let the perfect be the enemy of the good. If you wind up with something less than ideal for dinner (like a burger or hot dog or something), that doesn't mean you then have to wash it down with nachos and a milkshake. It can be easy to go off the rails, so just try and do the best you can and not let it completely derail you.

I dropped something like 6lbs within the first week. (I have a chart of my weight loss progression under my profile if you're at all interested) And since then, it's been 0.4lbs here 0.8lbs a few days later. It's not nearly as sexy as stepping on the scale and seeing a couple of pounds gone all at once, (although that has still happened once or twice) but progress is progress, no matter how infuriatingly slow it can be.

How'd you do with the nachos? Avoid the temptation?

Did pretty well...no nachos no fast food. I ate a dill pickle at the concession stand. What I did do was eat about 2500 calories total yesterday which is at least 500 too many for me. Really more like 700 too many. That's not too bad considering all. What I am going to do is try to cut back about 300 calories for today and tomorrow to pay back the overage. So I am shooting for about 1500 to 1600 today. I had a planned skip day on exercise yesterday and I plan on exercising this evening

You did well brawny. Even though you went over for the day yesterday, it's great that you are making an adjustment straight away. It must feel good to be back on track. Well done!
