BikiniBound's Diary

Well, I did the first day of the Couch to 5k program, and it was not easy. Let's just say that it KICKED MY ASS!! But, I did it! :hurray: I did it all according to the podcast--even though the last minute about killed me..hahaha I did the first 2 miles in 28minutes, and 3 miles in 45min.

:D

I actually haven't lost that much since you were last here...lol. I broke below 240 last summer, and was in the 220s in November when you were last around.

Well, shows you what I know, Lol

My memory isn't what it used to be...I don't remember what it used to be...

Anyway, seems like you're doing good. Bravo for getting your Mom to start taking better care of herself!

David

Hey Kimberly,
Thanks for the advice! I am doing the walking thing for now, LOL. I can't wait to be in shape enough to be able do those things...but you are right, it is murder on my knees...I'm getting ahead of myself as usual. Swimming has been working really well for me, so I hope to continue with that. Keep us updated with your progress, please!

Exercise last week:
4/28—35min circuit training, 30 min bike, 10.42 miles, weight: 221.5, cals: 1542
4/29—65 min walk, 4 miles, weight: 220.5, calories: 1,566
4/30—34 min walk, 2 miles, weight: 219.5, calories: 1,597

Exercise this week:
5/5—45min walk/jog, 3 miles, weight: 223, calories: 1,506

One good day down, a bazillion more to go. :sifone:

David--Stop acting like you're some old fogey..lol There's no way you can be expected to keep up with who weighed what when--I certainly can't. :D I can barely keep track of what they weigh now...lol. Thanks for stopping by. :)

Carrie--You are smart to follow my advice. :D Seriously, though, you are here to lose weight, not run marathons. Walking and swimming are great low-impact exercise that will burn plenty of calories to help you shed those pounds. Look at Margaret--she's lost half her original body weight without running a single mile. :)

Great calories and brilliant exercise. Well done for getting that first day done. As we always say - it is always hardest to first get started with something.
Keep on having days like that and the pounds will drop away.

Carrie needs to remember the old saying - we cannot expect to run before we can walk.

Oops! My calories were actually 1,686 yesterday. I forgot about the choc chip cookie I ate at the office yesterday. :blush5:

Margaret--thanks for the congrats. Once I get back into the swing of things, it's not so hard. I just have to do more planning ahead.

Yes, Carrie (and anyone else just starting out) should not feel that she has to dive in head first to exercise. It's best to start out slowly and progressively increase intensity as one is able.

Steve--hello to you, too. :)

Mom has decided not to do the gym just yet. Instead, I told her she should do some exercises with a resistance band and just walk around the house more often for exercise. Right now, I think her diet is most important. At her weight, she should be able to drop lbs rather quickly with just watching her eating. Exercise is an added bonus.

My weight was down a lb from yesterday--222. Still considerably up from my ticker weight, but hopefully my good eating and exercise will bring it back down soon. ;)

Just a bump for this in case anyone still wants to donate. :)

Well, it's official. I will be a 24hr walker in the local American Cancer Society Relay for Life in 1.5 weeks from today. This means I have to walk for 18hrs during the 24hr fundraiser. It takes place at a local middle school track. Local businesses set up tents with fundraising activities, etc to raise money for cancer research.

So if any of you would like to donate to a worthy cause, and support me on my walk, please go to the following link where you can make an online donation. No donation is too small, and you can do it regardless of where you are in the world. Unfortunately, all of your credit card and bank details are private and encrypted, so I have no access to them should you donate. :biggrinjester:

Thank you! :)

YAY!!!

Good for you!!!

:D

Stay focused as you are doing and your weight will be down to your ticker weight very soon.

As you know - your mother will be fine with the same advice that we just gave Carrie. Bigger people honestly get so much benefit from getting out and doing a bit of walking (and it really doesnt need to be too fast to be giving benefit) that the weight will just drop off them. Doing some very gentle exercise is a zillion times better than doing no exercise. In some ways - the gentler the better in my opinion because you are more likely to do it for longer and do it again the next day. That is when you get the big benefit. So many people exhaust themselves and then cannot wait to stop and cannot face doing it again the next day.

WOW this is impressive and you think I exercise ALOT - believe it or not - I only have exercised over 1 hr this week...hpwever I am dealing with some pretty high stress stuff...I wont get into it here...Your exercise looks great!

Wow, your exercise last week was amazing!!! You go girl. I'm impressed. Way to keep going strong!

Good luck with your food this week, you can do it!!

Radiant Pebble, Jill, Tyly, Cerella and MJB--Thanks for being impressed with my exercise..lol. I know plenty of people who do more, but I'm trying to up the intensity of mine as opposed to the length of time spent exercising atm. :) During the challenges I had to exercise more than I normally would have, so I often ended up decreasing my intensity--especially with my walks.

Margaret--Yes, there is no need for Mom to go hell for leather at this point. It'll be a chore to get her to consistantly do a few resistance band exercises several days per week along with moving about her house more. The last thing I want to do is overwhelm her and discourage her.

I was pleased that my weight was down to 219.5 today--down 2.5lbs from yesterday, and only up 2lbs from my ticker weight. I hope to hit a new low by Friday. :svengo:

Exercise is so fun, right? NOT! At least not for me. I'm hoping to enjoy it more soon, cuz everyday it's a battle of the mind to get my butt on the exercise equipment.

Great to hear your mom is doing excellent with her food:) I totally understand you not wanting to make her feel overwhelmed with exercise too, that wouldn't be a very good idea.

Glad to hear the housing market is still doing okay in UT. I do know Utah and SLC are growing pretty fast. Lots of people want to move here. I honestly don't blame them. I think it's a beautiful place to live, and if you can deal with some of the religious politics that go on here (I'm so used to them, lol) then it isn't that bad. There are lots of people who think of UT as some polygamist haven and think it is nothing but dirt roads and that the recent FLDS news in TX is how it is here. It is absolutely nothing like that at all.

So happy to know you finished your first day of the C25K. You are doing awesome! Your kickin' ass and taking names my dear :)

Happy TLD :sifone:

5/6—36 min circuit training, weight: 222, calories: 1,728
5/7—27min walk/jog, 2 miles, weight: 219.5, calories: 2,023

MJB--I agree that getting off the proverbial ass is the hardest part about exercise. Once I'm doing it, I'm ok. I love the feeling after a good workout. :sifone:

Sam--Or should I say Samantha today? :D Happy TLD to you, too.

We have a lot of religious people around me, too. It has a similar effect on politics. Here the dominant religion is Christian Reformed. I think we're the CRC capitol..lol. And don't tell me you don't belong to a polygamous cult or have a dozen wives. I know you do--everyone in UT does. :p

I am not taking any prisoners with my calories today. :ack2: I didn't log any of them until just a little bit ago, and I thought I had more to spare than I did, as I ate very little the first half of the day. Then I got hungry when I got home from the office and ate--a lot. :(

I did day 2 of week 1 of C25K tonight. It was a lot easier than the first time. I even shaved a minute off my time. :hurray:

They are having a potluck at H's work tomorrow. So I had to make potato salad for him to take. I hope it goes over well. It is not one of my usual dishes. I also made some ANZAC biscuits for him to take. I was out of brown sugar, though and had to use white instead. I don't think it had too much affect on the taste, though. The last time I made them for his co-workers, there weren't any left for him to bring home.

Are you definitely on for september in ES? MLB and I need to start planning soon. Sean will be gone for six months starting July 1st, so I will need to arrange for someone to care for Bella while I'm gone and there's really only one person here that can do it. Gotta give them a heads up!

Way to go with the C25K! It gets easier, I promise.

6 months??!! That is gonna suck bigtime. Is he being deployed? I'm definitely in for ES in Sept.

Yeah, I believe that it gets easier--today was easier than Monday.

A co-worker of mine who is very physically active--and a runner, told me yesterday that there is a 5k run here in August. I might sign up for it if this progresses well. That will be well after I finish the 9week C25K program if I stick to it as planned.
