BikiniBound's Diary

Ooooohhhh!!!! I do hope that your mother is going to do this. That would be so wonderful!!!!!

She has obviously been inspired by your achievements and I suspect has been mulling this over for some time.

Show her the before / after photos of Charlie Walduck - they always inspired me whenever I thought that I was wanting to do something impossible.

Remember - he went from 44 stone (i.e. 616 pounds) to 14 stone (196 pounds) in two years.

We both know that it will be hard work for your mother - but so worthwhile. And you know - she will reap benefits quite quickly because every time she loses 10 pounds she will be a whole heap healthier and better able to cope with the things that life throws up at us.

She may even inspire your father too - but maybe I am getting ahead of myself here.

Oooooo - another thought - if she gets so that she is trying to eat healthier - there will be less temptation around the house to lure you from your project. Make sure that she knows that she can have absolutely tons of fruit and veg - she neednt worry that she is going to be stuck starving on a couple of lettuce leaves.

My fingers are most certainly crossed for you on this.

I am pleased that your eyes are improving dramatically and that your sore throat is nearly gone.

Well done for doing so much exercise. That is again an awful lot of calories that you have burnt. Hopefully it will bring a reward at the scales on Friday morning.

Whatever happens - the Omega-3 have done really well to be still in with a chance at the very end.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Wow Kimberley, that is very interesting about your mom. And once mom changes her eating habits hunney the whole house will have to change..unless daddy cooks that is. How does it work in your house? Just yesterday H noted how "we're not all on a diet" hint hint to me. But that would be cool to be able to bring mom to the gym and maybe on a slow walk on a pretty day (that may get her even more into it at first than something grueling like the bike). Did she mention anything about the eating? I would think just cutting out a few things to start would make a difference. Fingers crossed..

Just a little reminder not to forget to post your weight on summer solstice. If we all post we might avoid elimination.

Mom and I just got back from the gym. :svengo: She did all but two of the machines. She didn't go around the circuit three times, but did it about once. Still for someone of her girth, it was a big step in the right direction. And, the great news is that she wants to keep at it. She got a one week free pass, and said she thinks she can handle 3 times per week! :hurray::hurray::hurray:

Claudia--I don't know if this will change her eating habits or not. She hasn't mentioned food. I am going to make some suggestions about cutting back a bit. I don't know if the junk food will go away or not. We'll see.

Margaret--Actually, Dad is easier to get with the program than Mom is, so I am incredibly shocked that she wants to do this--I mean this came totally from her without Dad or me saying anything to her to nudge her. :svengo:
My mother is a very fussy eater. The only fruit she'll eat are bananas and grapes, and occasionally apples. With veggies, she'll eat corn, grean and yellow beans, peas, carrots, potatoes, green pepper, cauliflower, cucmber and lettuce. Everything else, she refuses to eat. However, at least there are fruits and veggies she'll eat..lol. For her, portion size is really what she needs to watch. As she sits home all day, she does a lot of eating out of boredom.

I am just so thrilled, though. When we got back, I gave her a big hug and kiss and told her how proud of her I was. :biggrinjester:

That is absolutely brilliant news. If she goes to the gym three times a week and works like that she is bound to see things start moving. I know that when I was at my biggest - I didnt have to do too much exercise to start seeing some results. When the results start happening - I am sure that she will get tons of positive feedback and then she will be hooked.

OK - so there are quite a lot of fruit and veg that she will miss out on - but she has quite a few there to be going on with. She can really fill up on that list. Maybe she might get adventurous as things progress.

She is really lucky because you have spent the past year or so becoming quite an expert on weightloss matters - and you can really steer her right.

As I hinted earlier - she doesnt have to become skinny to get results. Vanity will not play as big a role as for a younger woman - she is sure of your father's affections. Health factors will have a much higher relevance and they start building up really quickly. Every 10 pounds that she loses will bring a marked improvement in her state of health.

Margaret and Cerella--Thanks for stopping by! :)

Yes, it IS brilliant news about my mom. And, I asked her if she was going to cut back on her food and she said that she figured she had to, otherwise it was kind of a waste of exercise. :hurray::hurray: So I think I'm going to try to make up a general menu of what and how much she should eat based on the foods that she likes. I'm going to teach her that it doesn't have to be miserable--that she can still eat many of the yummy foods she likes, just in moderation. Yesterday I unwittingly bought her some 60 calorie jello chocolate pudding cups that she likes. Those are a great snack for her when she gets a chocolate craving. I also just came back from the supermarket and I bought her some bananas and grapes so she has some more healthy snack options.

I've told her that at her weight, she'll probably lose pretty quickly. And the exercise alone will benefit her health.

I cannot tell you how excited I am about this. Maybe I'll get to keep my mom around for a lot more years than I thought.

how amazing that you get a chance to teach and help your mom the way she helped you while you were growing her up. I bet she is very proud of you, and you are obviously proud of her! Have a great weekend.

Hi Kimberly,
It's so great that your mom is following in your foot steps, getting healthy! My dad lost a lot of weight a while back, and I know the only thing he wants for me is to get healthy, it has made him so happy that I've made some positive changes....You are such a good daughter making your mom custom eating plans, GREAT!

It so helps when someone close has been through it all...congrats to the both of you! Maybe your mom will start her very own "BikiniBound's Mom's Diary"?

How's it going Hot Stuff! I didn't see any of my fellow teamers post yet, so I'm not sure where they are today!! I think Amy is headed to Ohio, I hope she has a great time!! Speaking of good times, I hope you have one tonight as well, sounds like a party, YEAH!

So how was your weigh in???? I bet you did well! I did fine for the week, I sure feel good, and I met my girlfriend for dinner tonight, she just turned 50 but doesn't look a day over 40. I bought her a birthday dinner, but when I got out of the car, she said "look at your skinny minnie" I was like, okay. HAHAHA I don't know how to take a compliment, so I guess I better learn. I've never been good at it, ever!

I will have to get you up to speed on the new job venture for me, so much to tell and no time to post it all. It might just damper in my plans for September, which will suck royally in my book. I'll email you about it later!
Well, I better get going, I didn't sleep well last night as we had terrible storms come through. YUK! I'll try and come online tomorrow morning for awhile. CHOW BABES!
Hugs
Kim

It is great that your mother realises that modifying her eating is the best way forward too. You know what she likes and also know what she needs to do - so I know that you are going to come up with a wonderful foodplan for her.

It will be so good if you can turn her health around. Who would have guessed a little over a year ago that I could sail through an operation like I did? This really can happen - and you are right - it really can extend her likely lifespan.

And the influence on your father will be good too. It has every chance of keeping both of them in your life a lot longer than you would have predicted.

I love the BB's mother's diary idea!

Carrie and Margaret--There will be no BB's Mom's diary, I can assure you..lol. First of all, she has no interest in the computer--mainly b/c her eyesight is not good due to her diabetes, so she cannot see the screen well--the fine print. Also, she cannot type at all. Her opthamologist--who specializes on diabetes patients--says there is nothing he can do to improve her eyesight--she wears glasses and they help a bit, but he said a prescription change would not help. She uses a magnifying glass a lot. His main concern is keeping her from losing any more of her eyesight.

I haven't had a chance yet to fiddle with her meal plans. I'm not sure that she has changed her eating habits..lol. I will work with her on that. :D

Laura--That's a good idea with your mom--and if the two of you are doing it together, it might make it easier for you both to lose the weight. :)

Twin--I'm so excited for you and your new career. I'm dying to know what it is--so much so that I'm probably gonna call you today. :D

I'm not good at taking compliaments, either. I enjoy getting them, though. :biggrinjester:

My weight yesterday was 219. :ack2:, which is still better than my weight today--222lbs. :svengo: That's what a night of 4 beers and tons of Mexican food will do to ya. :biggrinjester: Hopefully most of it is water retention due to all the sodium, and will come off quickly. I did eat a lot, though--but not the 10,500 required to gain 3lbs of fat. :biggrinjester: I'm guessing my calories yesterday to be somewhere around 3,800. I ate about 1400 prior to going to the party. We didn't get home until nearly 4am!! I'm going to try and be good today with the eating. :blush5:

Just tell me when--or just call me when you are ready to chat. :D How does 8pm your time sound? I think I'm gonna go for a walk/run tonight--probably around 7pm EDT. I just downloaded the Couch to 5k podcast and will upload it to my ipod when I get home from the office. I can't believe I'm finally gonna do this. :D I already know I can do the first week or 2 easily, as I've already been doing some jogging intervals in my walks. It's the longer jogs that have me scared. :willy_nilly:

Yes 8 central time is perfect for me! and you will do FINE on your run, I'm so happy your doing that now, it's awesome!! Email me your cell again, I think it's in my phone, but currently I'm on a call and I can't check. LOL LOL I can't wait to talk to you!

Glad to hear you're ok and it was just puter problems that kept you from updating. Unless you lost more than 2lbs this week, it probably wouldn't have changed the outcome much.

Hope all is well as can be in Ohio. :)

Hey Kimberly!

That is such excellent news about your mother. I am truly truly happy for you and her. You will be a great asset to her in getting her health back ;)

My friend's mom is bar-none the fussiest eater I have ever known. She doesn't do any vegetables at all.... Actually, she will eat corn but I have to explain to her that it is technically a starch and doesn't count as a vegetable really (right??)... She will eat a few kinds of fruits but not many, lol...

Great news, and hope your having an excellent weekend!

-Sam
