How many steps are there at the East Entrance?
Actually, there are two sets of stairs leading from the Benjamin Franklin Parkway to the East Entrance of the Museum.
The first stairway, leading to the Terrace of the Museum from the Parkway, is comprised of 72 steps. This stairway is broken into 5 sets of 13 steps each. Each step has 12 inch treads with 6 inch risers. Each set of steps is broken by a platform which is 10 feet in depth.
The second stairway, leading from the Terrace to the doorway of the Museum, is comprised of 25 steps. This stairway is broken by 1 platform (10 feet in depth) at the 13th step from the Terrace. Again, each step has 12 inch treads with 6 inch risers.
