I have a similar goal - running up the stairs of the art museum in Philadelphia (if you've seen the film Rocky, you know what I mean).

If I remember correctly (I'm currently living in Philly), there's like 5 flights of stairs leading up to the museum.

How many steps are there at the East Entrance?

Actually, there are two sets of stairs leading from the Benjamin Franklin Parkway to the East Entrance of the Museum.

The first stairway, leading to the Terrace of the Museum from the Parkway, is comprised of 72 steps. This stairway is broken into 5 sets of 13 steps each. Each step has 12 inch treads with 6 inch risers. Each set of steps is broken by a platform which is 10 feet in depth.

The second stairway, leading from the Terrace to the doorway of the Museum, is comprised of 25 steps. This stairway is broken by 1 platform (10 feet in depth) at the 13th step from the Terrace. Again, each step has 12 inch treads with 6 inch risers.

Good for you, quitting smoking!

As far as working out before going to bed, I reinterate the last poster, why not? If it doesn't give you the adrenaline to keep you up, I'd go for it.

There are many nights I stumble from the ex. bike into my bed!

i had a question
is it ok to workout before going to bed?

I find that working out too close to bedtime keeps me awake way past it (my bedtime that is). Only way to find out though is to try it yourself and see how you feel.

And congrats on quitting smoking - I've never picked up the habit, but I know it's a tough one to break.

I remeber reading that in order for the body to get back to a normal state to make falling asleep easier (if you have a problem with that), that you should strive to be done working out 2-2.5 hours before bedtime.

hi live,stingo and cg,
i have no problems going to bed after an intense workout..i fall asleep as soon as i hit the bed..infact it gives me my body some time to recover while i sleep,my only concern was that am i wasting all the hard work by not keeping my body active for next 7/8 hours?

so i did 15 minutes of intense running last night before going to bed speed was 6 to 9 mph then i did some abs work with stability ball it ws so relaxing after doing my crunches etc etc
i kept my back on ball and rolled a bit i felt so relived ,
i am so proud of myself for doing this tiny bit of ork
but everything has a start,no?:)

Yup, you have to start somewhere. Keep it going. :)
