Anke Says: Just Do It!

I've heard of The Secret, but didn't know what it was. Still don't get it exactly. I'm not one for the idea that all you have to do is X and everything will turn around. On the other hand, I truly believe that the difference between success and failure is entirely mental. It sounds like this Secret thing is to help you get into the right mental place to make the changes you want.

Anke, you have been doing so great. The little set back of last week is hardly a blip, but I can feel with you that is seems like more. It might be an idea to take some new measurements and pictures to compare. Refocus to how much progress you have made.

:iagree: And make sure to make fun exercise a high priority--especially what you love, like belly-dancing. I found that making time for my activities pleases me and keeps me on track :)

Hey Anke!

I haven't read very deply into your journal but just wanted to stop by and say hi. I really like the idea of making something to visualize what you want to accomplish. I have to figure out a way to do that without making something huge that would take up a corner of our apartment. You have made SO much good progress! Don't let 2 measley pounds get you down, you ROCK! :)

Ye, you know, it's all about working on my mindset right now... the rest will follow... has started to already!

It's hard to stay positive all the time, but if you can do it you are so much happier!

Anke, I haven't posted in your diary yet, but I did throw a reply into your quit smoking thread.

From what I'm reading so far, you're doing great things. You also seem to have a pretty good ability to self analyze insofar as to where you may have gone wrong, or right for that matter. You are on the right track!

Losing weight, getting fit, all while quitting smoking is a monumental acheivement. If you backslide for a day or weekend, or whatever. Stop, analyze what you are trying to do, shrug it off and try again.

Trust me, I'm there. You have been off the smokes for a little longer than I have so I'm feeling ya! It ain't easy. sometimes I have a good day all around, in my calorie range, no problem with the smokes and then, for some unknown reason, I just can't seem to walk away from whatever is on the table...

BTW, I have a long history of procrastination. That's why I haven't made the moves to fix my health problems until I was 43. You're already ahead of that by a long shot.

Your vision board idea seems like an interesting one. I sort of do that mentally as it is. Maybe I could get some tips from you. As far as I'm concerned, you're doing great!!

Thanks for stopping by man!

Ye, I think maybe I OVER-analyze myself sometimes! :p

Anyway, yes, the smoking thing will be an issue for a while still, but it's easier and easier!

Ugh, procrastination... seriously, while I procrastinate I am looking at websites dealing with how not to procrastinate.... THE HEIGHT OF PROCRASTINATION!

:waving:

Is that anything like having a meeting to plan a meeting?

Welcome to the real world.

THE HEIGHT OF PROCRASTINATION!

Hahaha, this reminds me of A Clockwork Orange where Alex is always saying something is "the height of ____ fashion" :) Keep up the positivity--best to do things you enjoy that are good for you and keep developing your skill. You still belly dancing? I'm going to my first official class-outside-the-gym at a studio, to prep me for my zills class on Sundays (starts this Sunday). Wish me luck! :seeya:

Hey all!

Yes, I'm still doing belly dancing, expect there were no classes this month and I haven't been keeping to practise at home :(

WILL DO IT TONIGHT!!!

Good luck for that zills class... they're tricky at first, but you quickly get a feel for them!

Aaaanyway... so last night went better binge eating wise... only 3 cookies and a small bowl of muesli, how I wanted more, MUCH more!!!! But I resisted! YAY!!

YAY!!

way to go on the resisting, Anke!

Wish I could say the same, :p

By the way, what is muesli? I've never heard of it...
haha I'm such an Amercian.

All right! No binging!

I bet if you scheduled yourself practice at BD at home, you'd be so busy doing belly rolls that you wouldn't feel the need to binge at all!

BD was FUN yesterday! The teacher complimented my belly flutters, even though I couldn't manage rolls. The flutters reminded me of this Yoga Pranayama breathing technique that I learned on Monday. But the hip movement...I ain't NEVER done that shit anywhere else but in BD!!! Wow it worked parts of my legs I NEVER touch on!

Way to go on resisting!!!

I loooove the workout BD gives your body. It gives the belly that sexy curve to it seen on so many belly dancers. You know, where the area on either side of the rectus abdominus dishes inward above the hips? Damn sexy!

I've noticed that doing yoga before doing belly dance really is beneficial.

Bwahahahaha! You sound like this one girl from my BD class… Veronica. She’s busy studying to become a chiropractor, so lots of anatomy and physiology stuff. She always says something like that in clas :p

Oh, lily (I forget ur name :( ) muesli is a mixture of rolled raw oats (or roasted and coated in honey for the unhealthier versions) and possibly other breakfast grains plus some dried fruit and nuts. You can eat it with yogurt or milk like cereal. You can also chop fresh fruit in… can’t believe you haven’t had it… wait, maybe you call it granola?

Anyway, it was “invented” by a Swiss doctor for his patients… Google Swiss Muesli, yum yum yum!!!!

Curvie Gurlie, I'm sorry to disappoint but last night the binging won out :( Ate half a bag of "Flings" (like cheese puffs but yellow and not cheesy).... yeah they're "baked, not fried!" as the bag proclaims... but still. And the 4 muesli rusks... that's equal to like 8 slices of bread calorie wise :(

Anyway, I have spoken to my boyfriend about my binging at night and that I now want to make a conscious effort not to eat more than I need most days. He said he’ll try help where he can…

I’m keeping up with my exercise really well… my goals for the week were 3x 100pushups.com workouts, along with crunches and squats. My other goal was to skip 3 times this week, working my way up to 500 skips…
I have done two of the body weight training (pushups, crunches, squats) sessions so far, and 3 of the skipping sessions, 500 skips each time! (My week starts on a Friday… erm, makes the weekend easier okay :) )

Phew, what an entry! :hurray:

Hi Anke! Just checking in on you, hope all is well.

You'll kick this binging! I don't know if its been mentioned before, but are you eating exactly what it is you are craving? I ask because I've tried to do a cheat day but was still really careful about what I ate and for like three days I would not eat so good trying to fill that craving....I was still craving nachos :drool5: even though I was trying to avoid them lol. Finally I gave in, tried not to eat the whole platter and after that I felt so much better and was back on track. That's just my experience.

It's not really cravings... it's numbly, obsessively overeating... I don't know, it doesn't matter WHAT I eat, just THAT I eat. It's totally a self sabotage thing. I get myself chocolate once a month "officially" and I DO allow myself a decadent treat every so often... so I don't think that's the issue.

Thanks for stopping by!

Things to do instead of the binging

- get in bed and read
- watch a movie or series on tv
- have a hot shower
- brush my teeth
- have tea/decaf coffee
- go stand and look at my vision board in the study to remind me where I'm going.
- belly dancing moves
- stretch
- skip/exercise in general
- draw
- write in my journal
- work on some stuff from work at home
- clean house

I'm gonna have to check out that book, I think I want to make a Vision Board.

Whatever is truly throwing off your equilibrium, figure it out and see what you can do to fix it. Be sure you're getting enough protein and fat to make sure you're satiated--sometimes people binge because they're missing something from their diet. Also, it's wonderful that your boyfriend is willing to help you out! :D

Well, you've probab;y heard of "The Secret". It's a technique used to visualise your goals and turn them into reality. You stick pictures of who you want to be and what you want to have or do on it (from magazines, internet, whatever) and then you look at it every day to remind yourself. I make a big collage-like thing.

Okay, so the weekend was a bit dippy... had a wedding, ate a few pastries... ate Tinkies :( but also managed to do SOME exercise. Now I have until Thursday's group weigh in to make a dent here. I picked up 1kg last week, the biggest gain since I started 5 months ago.

Thanks you all for the lovely compliments and encouragement... YOU rock!
:beating: I LOVE YOU & I LOVE and ADORE "THE SECRET!!!".....it's WORKING FOR ME NOW!!! ;) I can SEE IT!!! :) I BELIEVE in you SO MUCH!!! :grouphug: YOU ARE SO AMAZING!!!! I just wanted you to know that!!! You are inspiring and I love it!!! You remind me a lot of myself in the sense of the AMOUNT of introspection you do, and the realizations you come to as well....I UNDERSTAND YOU MORE THAN YOU THINK!!!......It's amazing what a SELF DEVELOPING process this is......!!!

.......and sometimes is does require a :sifone: to get there!!! :smilielol5:
