Alligatorob's Diary

.... we had an earthquake this morning. ...
fun way to start the day, no? unfortunately it made me wonder how set the US ... or at least a part of it ... would be prepared for a catastrophe on top of a pandemic.

congrats on entering the final stretch in the 200+ clubs. i can't imagine how it must have felt to see practically the entire 200lb scale pass before your eyes over the past year ... :)

In non-virus news we had an earthquake this morning. I was sitting at my desk and suddenly the room started moving, a very startling sensation, interesting way to start the day.

Rob, I actually read about that earthquake yesterday and I wondered if you had experienced it.

Maybe it really is end of days, there's a plague of locusts in the Middle East and Africa.
Yeah, it is hard not to be distracted by the corona news, but we need to try and not let it keep us from getting exercise and eating well. Nothing we can do about the virus, but we can do something for our health.

You are on a mission my friend and I salute you for it. When I get there, I will let you know. Ain't nothing going to break your stride! I admire that.

The manager did get a very strongly worded letter from the Health Department urging her to close, but not requiring it. She has posted copies everywhere and makes sure we all read it so we can make our own decisions. Its the same letter sent to all the gyms. The risk sure seems less than going to the store.
Please be careful. The virus can stay active for some days on hard surfaces.
And Petal is right - in the SW world, you'd surely be Slimmer of the Year. :)

It was a good day, I ate well, exercised, and feel good. I had a bag of fritos for my evening snack, it was the first junk food thing I have had in months. It fit into my calorie goal, so it was ok, but I feel a little guilty.

The gym remains open, but we have a new threat, someone is stealing the antiseptic spray bottles. If they gym can't keep enough of them they will shut down. If its not one thing, its another. I guess the gym is just a day by day thing...

And on the Bird Refuge volunteer thing, after the feds took 6 weeks to decide my background was clear and that I am moral enough to consort with the pelicans they shut the volunteer program down because of the virus. My first day was to be next week. I guess it will come back, someday.
About the gym: I hope they air the place both thoroughly and regularly as well.
They seem to, lots of air exchange, makes the place pretty cold, but probably safer.
I am sorry I don't know how I didn't post on your diary yesterday.
Hey Petal, always good to hear from you, and never worry about missing a day. Just seeing you here when you have the time is a pleasure. I am happy here, having y'all as friends is better than an award. I don't need to be man of the anything. But thanks for pointing it out.

Ha, you should know, San Diego gets a lot more earthquakes than we do. Thanks for pointing out how the 200s have gone by so quickly, had not thought of it that way.

It probably is, just my luck finally losing weight and the world is ending! Didn't know about the locusts, that probably proves it!
an inspiration to all of us
Thanks Cate, but as you may have noticed I am a bit uncomfortable being anybody's inspiration. I'd rather think of it as a team thing, we have all inspired each other, you have been a great help to me.
I'm so happy to see you still making progress
Thanks Cory, and I am happy to see your bright shining face posting again. Hope you will be back often.

I have heard that, I suspect that the gym surfaces are probably the safest I encounter. Getting sprayed with disinfectant over and over again has to be good. When I compare it to going to the bank or a store things seem a whole lot more controlled, and no more people, actually fewer. So far we have only one confirmed case in town, and it was someone who contracted the virus in Salt Lake (50+ miles away). Of course it's likely the vast majority of people infected have not been tested, so I'm not sure what that statistic is worth.

Not my favorite, but what I found.

What do you enjoy the most?
- dieting
- cycling
- hiking
- gym
Good question, I prefer the outdoor things, but for the past few weeks our weather has been too cold so the gym is where I have been. I think that will change as it warms up. I honestly don't like dieting much, but have come to accept it as something I have to do, and have now been at it long enough that its not the struggle it once was. I do enjoy the process of being here and getting support for my dieting. I like my new forum friends.
Nicking the spray bottles? I'm not even surprised at this point, which makes it worse.
Yeah, a sad thing.

someone is stealing the antiseptic spray bottles.
Yes not surprised either. They are next to impossible to find where I am.

And on the Bird Refuge volunteer thing, after the feds took 6 weeks to decide my background was clear and that I am moral enough to consort with the pelicans they shut the volunteer program down because of the virus. My first day was to be next week. I guess it will come back, someday.
That's too bad Rob. But yes you'll be all ready to go when things are back to normal!

I continue to be impressed how you are sticking with the plan right through this stressful time. Good for you!

It probably is, just my luck finally losing weight and the world is ending! Didn't know about the locusts, that probably proves it!
:) that made me smile. Well at least you'll enter the new world a new slimmer you!

Rob,
Stuff gets nicked here too. Just to point out our hospitals feel that lots are getting the virus at the gas pump so wear gloves.

I don't think the world is ending it's resetting and adjusting . Sometimes I feel we are losing perspective on ourselves. We have lost 5 people in road deaths here in Ireland in the last couple of days . 2 to coronavirus so far. Perhsps we need to ban cars. It's all a mixed up place.

Looking forward to warmer weather here too, to do more outdoors stuff. Good job keeping the fritos in your cal allowance

People are probably driving like lunatics on the roads because there's so much less traffic. That's sad to hear Petal.

And on the Bird Refuge volunteer thing, after the feds took 6 weeks to decide my background was clear and that I am moral enough to consort with the pelicans they shut the volunteer program down because of the virus. My first day was to be next week. I guess it will come back, someday.

That's really disappointing Rob, but the pelicans will be waiting for you when things get back to normal.

Hey Rob,

Yeah, it would be a real shame if it was the end of times just when you've dropped all that weight. I'm sure your successful vetting for the volunteer program will pay off when this is all behind us.

A good day, I ate well, exercised, and feel good.

I got in 2 hikes, the first one was the longest, another shot at the goal hike. I found a place to get through the barbed wire fence and better route. I managed to get a little farther and higher than last week. Problem is it was another dead end, got to a pretty impassable spot. Good news is no butt sliding and my knees felt better. I know I could have kept going, but I just ran out of trail. I did see a possible work around for next time. No developed trail on this one, just bushwacking. The hike was a total of 2.4 miles with a rise of 583 feet. The second hike was late afternoon, a shorter one on a much better trail, but I had to drive to the starting point. It was only about a mile with a 200 ft rise.

The trail, I know my pace is not very impressive, but it's what I can do.

Turn around point, dead end.

Thanks Liza, a good way to look at it.

A very rational way to look this thing Petal.

Thanks Emily, I hope so.
Yeah, it would be a real shame if it was the end of times just when you've dropped all that weight
Yes, it would be a very inconvenient time for things to end, for me anyway!

Love the photos rob! Wow what views! The blue in that sky! I agree, this forum is so positive and encouraging. Wow 2 hikes in one days incredible, I tried to go on a hike before but my ankles and knees gave way. I was 15. Me and this girl stayed back with our teacher while the rest completed it lol
