Alligatorob's Diary

Rob things will surely start to close and follow suit other states . Delighted to hear a local restaurant has closed up its seated area but is offering delivery and take out option instead .

This country is following a limited business-as-usual plan - restaurants and cafes are still open (business is way down), but cinemas, nightclubs, bars, tourist attractions are all closed, and large gatherings (like watching football games) are not allowed. We also have had very careful tracing and quarantining of infected persons, and things like free hand sanitiser at bus-stops - and I'm sure many other places, but I'm not getting out much right now!

It was a good day, I ate well and feel good. Also got exercise.

I went to the gym today, and right now am planning to tomorrow. They provide everyone with disinfectant spray and require all to disinfect every surface touched before and after use. They also have banned anyone showing any cold or flu symptoms. And the gym is relatively empty, attendance is way down. It feels as safe as you can get to me, I think I will keep going until it gets shut down, or I get sick. Hope that is not a bad decision. Seems about the safest outing I can find right now. Of course the Utah State Health Dept could close them down at any point, but not so far. If they do I can always walk/hike or bike, am still doing some of that anyway.

I also went to a grocery store, things there were also safety oriented. They were limiting the people in the store to 50, fortunately I was there at a slow time so it wasn't an issue, but at busy times you have to wait in line to get in. They had wipes for your hands and the carts, and encouraged people to use them. But at least they were still open and stocked with most things. Most Utah ski resorts have closed, and the few that are open are limiting the number of people allowed in.
And they will remain so as long as it´s legal, due to fear of going bankrupt. Which I understand, but can still be a huge source of infection.
I probably won't be going out to eat any time soon, doesn't seem to have the same benefits as the gym. However for now restaurant closures here are voluntary, except in a couple of counties. We have no bar in the county I live in, so no need for closures.

Probably so, Utah is one of the lower population density states, keeping our rates low so far. That may be why we are behind. Some restaurants have closed voluntarily and many of those are also offering take out and delivery.
I'm not getting out much right now!
Probably the wise thing to do, or not do. Amy do you think transmission rates are slower in Australia, you are still in summer, is that helping?

Interesting that most all comments seem to be about the virus, not too many on food and exercise. Hopefully things will settle down and we can get back to the real reason we are here. Not to be complaining or blaming anyone, it is what's on all of our minds. I also appreciate the international perspective of this group.

It was in 1205 that Pope Innocent III laid down the principle that Jews should be doomed to perpetual servitude, because they crucified Jesus. Innocent (strange name for the man) also started 3 crusades the Forth, the Albigensian, and the Fifth leading to the slaughter of many an innocent person and no perceivable good. Yet inexplicably he has been honored by the US Congress and his bust hangs in the US Capital. That may should be reconsidered.

I'm not in Australia right now, Rob - but I will be next month. Maybe by then it'll be clear. Meanwhile, I check this site, pretty much daily:
Coronavirus Update (Live): 198,422 Cases and 7,987 Deaths from COVID-19 Virus Outbreak - Worldometer

If you scroll down, you can get pretty good figures and graphs for each country with a major outbreak. I see from that that Italy had fewer new cases two days ago, than three days ago - the figures for my yesterday aren't up yet, but I hope this means they've passed the worst of it. South Korea's graphs also show a real decline. Australia - last figures: 51 new cases, no new deaths.

Great that you are keeping up your exercise routine and continuing to eat well. It's good to stay focused on healthy positive things.
The gym does sound eerie so empty!

Rob I like your food diary for yesterday. What a good breakfast.
Yep hard not to talk about the virus and I am trying to keep to once a day update now and I am limiting my whatsapp time. But it's hard although feel better for it .

Yep time to get back on the health track Cate and follow Robs good example I think

Down 2 lbs this morning to 208. That's an even 8 stone lost, 112 lb or almost 51 kg down to date. I am happy!
Thanks Amy, I had not seen the website, it really does have a lot of information. The best source I have seen. I bookmarked it and will begin watching it. Facts like this are better than the news stories.
It's good to stay focused on healthy positive things.
Yep, that's one thing we can do, and may even help with the virus, can't hurt.
My focus is going to be right back on getting as healthy as I can be, now that we have cancelled our trip. Go us!
I agree, go you! And the rest of us!
Yep hard not to talk about the virus and I am trying to keep to once a day update now and I am limiting my whatsapp time.
Impossible I guess, in many ways its one of the biggest things to hit us in our lifetimes. Certainly on a worldwide scale it is. I can't think of another time the whole world was caught up in something this way. Hate to admit it, but I am not on whatsapp, not even quite sure what it is. Am I missing something?

Wow! Eight stone! There's some people here, I think, who weigh that! Very major achievement. (we need a homage emoji!)

Glad you liked the site - there's lots there, if you explore around a bit.

Seconded. SO HARD.
Whatsapp is really just a messaging app (usually on your phone) which let´s you send text/pictures/clips/sound files either to individuals or to groups. For example my parents, sisters, and BILs have a group so we can keep in touch and share little bits of our daily lives with each other despite the distance.

I have to say that coronavirus has had a very negative impact on me in terms of weight loss so far. I use my diary to talk about my problems too, haha.

8 stone - amazing Rob. :)

It was a good day, I ate well, exercised and feel pretty good.

My gym remains open, there are only 2 gyms left open in Utah and mine is one of them, so far. They have really stepped up the extreme sanitizing thing, no touching of anything without first spraying and then spraying after. And they have enforcers making sure it happens. Hope that is good enough. Not really many people in the gym, today there were about 6 of us, so we did not have to come in very close contact, waved our spray bottles rather than shaking hands.

In non-virus news we had an earthquake this morning. I was sitting at my desk and suddenly the room started moving, a very startling sensation, interesting way to start the day. Turns out it was a magnitude 5.7, not a killer quake but enough to do a little damage and get my attention. It was the strongest quake to hit Utah in many years. The most notable damage appears to have been to the Angel Moroni, standing atop the Mormon temple in downtown Salt Lake, he lost his horn Angel moroni: Earthquake damages Salt Lake temple, dislodges angel statue's trumpet - CNN . Other damages included enough to shut down the Salt Lake airport and close all the liquor stores in Utah, including those far from any quake effects (go figure). Fortunately we were spared any damage, only a kind of rude morning surprise.

Wow! Eight stone! There's some people here, I think, who weigh that!
Thanks Amy, I am aware of that, or we have people close to it anyway. It feels good to be gone.

Thanks, I may look into it. Right now I don't know why I would want it, but that seems to be the way with a lot of technology before you try it. Not long later it's essential.

Yeah, it is hard not to be distracted by the corona news, but we need to try and not let it keep us from getting exercise and eating well. Nothing we can do about the virus, but we can do something for our health.

I have never experienced an earthquake & don't think I want to. It's good to see you looking after yourself so well, Rob & not worrying too much, There's no point really. Hope the gym stays open for a while longer.

I'm glad the earthquake didn't affect you much Rob. Good for you for keeping up with the gym. Everything is shut down where I am...not that I ever go to gyms anyhow! We're still being encouraged to get outside and exercise though.

I´ve slept through 3 earthquakes but never experienced one consciously.

If the liquor stores closed because all their stock fell off the shelves and broke this combination would be SUCH a source of religious shit-posting :rotflmao:
Food´s looking good! If you have access to it maybe you could add some leafy green veg to the sardines for further health benefits but basically I can´t believe you´re the same person as the guy who started here a year ago under the same pseudonym!

Agree with LaMa here, Rob. It's truly remarkable what you've accomplished. You must've been a really good eater too! :p

Is the sodium right on that turkey that you had yesterday? That's a lot of sodium for 200 kcal servings.

It was a good day, I ate well, exercised and feel good.

Gym remains open, the owner and manager is going to do everything possible to keep it open, the risk is that the State Health Dept may order all gyms closed. The manager told me that the only 2 left open in the state are small gyms without many people and both are doing the extreme sanitizing things, her hope is it will just fly under the radar. All other gyms have closed voluntarily. I think I am lucky to be with this one. The manager did get a very strongly worded letter from the Health Department urging her to close, but not requiring it. She has posted copies everywhere and makes sure we all read it so we can make our own decisions. Its the same letter sent to all the gyms. The risk sure seems less than going to the store.

I have never experienced an earthquake & don't think I want to.
It is interesting, and one like I was in is the right kind to experience, enough shaking that you know you are in one, but not enough to do much damage. The trainer told me she was in the gym when it hit and all the weights were clanging and banging, she thought the building was coming down, but no damage was done. This is only the second time in my life I have been in one big enough to really feel, the first time was about 30 years ago in California. Not something you forget.
We're still being encouraged to get outside and exercise
That's something I need to do more of, this week was cold and rainy so inside was better. Hopefully it will clear and I can do some walking and/or biking this weekend.
I´ve slept through 3 earthquakes but never experienced one consciously.
This was just my second. The first hit whilst I was sleeping but there was no way to sleep through it, felt like some large person was jumping up and down on the bed!
Did you "hear" it before it came?
Kind of, the dogs started howling a few seconds before it hit. I guess that is common.
You must've been a really good eater too!
Yes Rob, I was a very well accomplished eater, invested a lot of time and money in perfecting the art! I am skeptical about the sodium thing on the calorie counter, it was just regular home cooked turkey, frozen Thanksgiving leftover.

Rob
I am sorry I don't know how I didn't post on your diary yesterday. I know I chip away at them as and when but I had read your loss and I am whooping with joy for you. Whoop whoop.
I am not sure because I only really follow a handful of people here but I am pretty sure you would be the one winning awards in our club.

Pretty sure mostly it would be slimmer of the week, slimmer of the month , slimmer of the year and last but not least man of the year.

It's nice the gym is staying open . I wouldn't go though if there is a possibly there are more than a 2 or 3 there together . Just be careful.
