It was a good day. I ate well and feel fine. One thing that worries me a bit is I feel a little like I am getting in the habit of eating crackers for my late night snack. I am still keeping my calories down, but I have started to crave those crackers. Maybe I ought to go back to fruit or something. We'll see, it is something I am thinking about. I also crave the yogurt and grapenuts I have for breakfast most days, but that seems healthier.

The great comet of 1106 was observed world wide, with surviving written accounts from Wales, England, Japan, Korea, and China. The comet was apparently quite impressive and after being visible for almost 2 months it broke into many pieces. Some of the pieces came back forming the Great Comets of 1843 and 1882 as well as many smaller comets.
I was fortunate to have seen Halley's Comet in 1986, I looked for it many times, but then night I was camping in Death Valley, a very dark place miles from any city light pollution and there it was. Huge, as I remember it filled much of the sky looking more like a ghost than anything very bright, but there was no question what it was. That's the only comet I am sure I have ever seen, looked for a few others in telescopes and maybe saw the heads but nothing like what I saw that night in the dark desert. I believe comets were much more visible historically than they are today, all of our artificial light makes them hard to see. My grandfather saw Halley's comet in 1910 and lived to try and see it again in 1986, but wasn't successful. He blamed, rightly I think, all the city lights.
