Alligatorob's Diary

Make sure you tell us when and we can have a party .
Absolutely! Retirement parties always make me think of the episode of Rumpole of the Bailey where Rumpole "retires".

I just finished my 5 laps, in what has to be the smallest workout routine on the forum. Its a little discouraging, but I know if I stick to it things will get better. When I was planning the bike buy I drove around the area scoping out possible rides, I can now see that was through my 20 year old eyes. Once I got the bike and tried things it wasn't to be, not right away anyway.

My ride brought back a memory of a Rumpole quote: "I've always said that exercise is a short cut to the cemetery. ". I am hoping he was wrong.

I thought you would stay where you are as it looks so nice & well set up. You will love retirement I'm sure. Are there fish in that lake?
Could make me sound more educated or something.
When I saw this I laughed & thought I would have said: "Could make me sound more edumecated or somethink."
My ride brought back a memory of a Rumpole quote: "I've always said that exercise is a short cut to the cemetery. ". I am hoping he was wrong.
I hope so too!

Rob your quotes made me laugh. Loved that show. It's great that the 20 year old you is striving to come back

It was a good day, ate well and I feel good. And as reported earlier in the day I am keeping my bike laps up.

I am preparing to miss all of our fresh produce, its not over yet, but another few weeks and it will be. We do still have a couple of apple trees to pick, and those will last a while.

Yeshe-Ö (also know as Khor-re, Jangchub Yeshe-Ö, Byang Chub Ye shes' Od, Lha Bla Ma, Hla Lama Yeshe O, Lalama Yixiwo, bKra shis mgon; Dharmaraja and Lhachen Yeshe-Ö) was born in about 959. Yeshe-Ö was the first notable lama-king in Tibet, though it seems he was the second actual king. He built Tholing Monastery in 997, much of it still stands today. Tholing means "hovering in the sky forever" based on the monastery's elevation of 12,400 feet (3,800 m).

It was a good day, I ate well and feel good, doesn't get much better than that. And I upped my micro-workout to 6 laps.

The one thing I am about to miss are our peaches. The last to ripen are getting ripe now, in a week or so we'll be without fresh peaches. Nothing better than being able to walk out and pick a couple of very ripe peaches for a meal or snack. I'm going to miss it. But we do have a bunch of juice and some frozen ones. And will probably try drying some of these last ones.

Oraibi, Arizona was first settled in about 1100. Oraibi is a Hopi Indian village and possibly the oldest continuously inhabited settlement in the US. Not many native american settlements survived the European settlement. Oraibi is located in the Hopi Reservation, but is open to visitors. I've never been, it is in a very remote area, but now that I know about it I will try and visit one day.

That sounds like a super cool village to go and visit Rob. Congratulations on losing another lb and that's an awesome loss in 3 weeks.

Well done Rob!

I’ve been working flat out the last week or so so I’ve not been on here at all. I’ve just caught up. Looks like you’re coming along very nicely.

Great to see you’re continuing to drop.

Cate’s right; there is nothing embarrassing at all. You’re working very hard and you’ve made some amazing progress.

If I recall at the very start you said due to injuries etc etc exercise is out of the question ... not so much anymore hey!

Just finished my, what I think I'll call micro-workout. Got 7 laps today, I could feel it in the last lap, but not too bad. Don't know if I will try for more tomorrow or not. I am getting a bit more confident on the bike.

Thanks to all for the nice words of support, it makes me feel better to see these. LaMa, I like your take on it, 6 laps is 20% more! And Amy, you and TM are right its nothing to be embarrassed about, not here anyway. Doesn't keep me from feeling that way. Petal I like the way you put it, and I guess he's down there somewhere trying to come out. TM you are right, I think I originally said the damage years of overweight had done to my feet and knees made exercise a problem. It still does, but the bike is not hard on either, this seems a good way. Making my legs stronger should help with the knees, who knows, it can't hurt.

Seven! This is so good to read. Yes, biking will definitely be making your legs stronger, and I would think would help with your knees - what a great outcome, if so!

(Cate, they do say history goes in cycles. ;) )

It was a good day. I ate well and feel fine. One thing that worries me a bit is I feel a little like I am getting in the habit of eating crackers for my late night snack. I am still keeping my calories down, but I have started to crave those crackers. Maybe I ought to go back to fruit or something. We'll see, it is something I am thinking about. I also crave the yogurt and grapenuts I have for breakfast most days, but that seems healthier.

The great comet of 1106 was observed world wide, with surviving written accounts from Wales, England, Japan, Korea, and China. The comet was apparently quite impressive and after being visible for almost 2 months it broke into many pieces. Some of the pieces came back forming the Great Comets of 1843 and 1882 as well as many smaller comets.

I was fortunate to have seen Halley's Comet in 1986, I looked for it many times, but then night I was camping in Death Valley, a very dark place miles from any city light pollution and there it was. Huge, as I remember it filled much of the sky looking more like a ghost than anything very bright, but there was no question what it was. That's the only comet I am sure I have ever seen, looked for a few others in telescopes and maybe saw the heads but nothing like what I saw that night in the dark desert. I believe comets were much more visible historically than they are today, all of our artificial light makes them hard to see. My grandfather saw Halley's comet in 1910 and lived to try and see it again in 1986, but wasn't successful. He blamed, rightly I think, all the city lights.
