Alligatorob's Diary

Oh wow - that drugging story. Truly terrible, and very frightening possibilities. I hope the police go all out to find and stop the spiking and I'm glad you've got straight onto a lawyer.

And you look great in your photo - you are such a brilliant example of how to do this! :)

May I join in the oyster chorus and say that it looks great! And such a good feeling when clothes make you realise how far you've come.

Today was a good day for me, I ate well and feel good. We are back at the peaches, picked about 3 bushel today, we have a new strategy these we will crush and ferment without juicing. Sort of like you do with grapes, but peaches have more flesh per gallon or liter than grapes so we will just have to see how it goes, we do have the peaches to experiment with. Our first try and peach wine was to ferment the juice after squeezing and we have 6 or 7 gallons fermenting now. It took longer to take off than I expected but right now things are boiling away. Hopefully we'll make something drinkable, my past wine making attempts have been met with mixed success. The best I ever got was a cherry wine, once I made a whole bunch of zinfandel, it turned out to be a mediocre cooking wine, nothing you'd want to drink. I have fun trying, but my wife gets frustrated if the end product isn't good.

My wife brought home a single serving of pulled pork from my favorite local bbq place yesterday. I wasn't sure what to do with it, so I divided it into 3 parts and that coupled with lots of veggies made 3 good meals, dinner yesterday and lunch and dinner today. No reason not to eat what you like, just so you don't eat too much.

Harald Fairhair, the first King of Norway some time around 933. A great deal is known about Harald from the sagas, problem is no one knows if its true, or if Harald even existed. Apparently fair hair in old Norse means beautiful hair, but not necessarily light or blond.

That´s great! Fair still means (general positive attribute) in many contexts, doesn´t it? Fair weather, for example.

Glad you had a really good day, Rob. I'm going to put the "that's nice" to work on Wednesday & hope they haven't heard that joke :D

Rob I think it's good you still eat what you like . That's what will make it morse sustainanable for you really. Years ago the cottage diet was a big thing here . Many women lost much weight but it was not sustainable si it all pretty led back on and more . A good balanced and varied diet is the way to go.

I'm reeling in shock! I had no idea that he wasn't cut-and-dried historical! (Speaking of cut-and-dried - have you thought about drying the peaches? Or maybe making fruit leather?)

It was a good day, ate well and feel good!

We mashed the peaches picked yesterday and began the fermentation process, we now have 5 six and a half gallon fermenters going. They are not full so we probably only have a potential 15 gallons or so of finished wine. Fingers crossed that it turns out drinkable.

My bicycle comes tomorrow, I am excited.

Bolesław II the Generous (also known as the Bold, and the Cruel) was crowned King of Poland in 1076. Boleslaw was supposedly deposed for infidelity (I didn't know Kings in that era couldn't do that at will) a few years later. Legend has it he went to Rome to beg forgiveness of the Pope, but instead the Pope condemned him to wander as a repentant mute. He supposedly ended up in a monastery doing hard physical labor until was reconciled in the Sacrament of Penance and died. A nice story, but it seems kind of unlikely to me.

Yay for the bike! I first read Bolesław as Boleslaw (rhymes with coleslaw) and was much amused. The pope at that time did have a LOT of influence on worldly affairs, especially because most states had many competing factions instead of one clear ruling dynasty. Having or losing the backing of the pope for your family could make a lot of difference.

Excellent stuff Rob. Welcome to the club! Haha.

I’m sure you’ll love it. You’re in for a shock in the beginning though if you haven’t ridden for a while. It’s going to hurt! The good news is you’ll get used to it surprisingly quickly if you keep it up. Remember many short rides is FAR better than occasional long rides. 1-2 miles at a time will be plenty to start with.

Ow, every time I visit my parents and nick my mom´s bike to get around my butt hurts... sooo much! Feels good on the legs though.

Got the bike, took it around our gravel drive 3 times, that's about 1500 ft total, and each lap has an elevation change of about 10 ft. Not a big ride, but it's getting me started. Will probably do it again this afternoon. Problem with riding in my drive is the dogs. They think it's a great game, I am afraid I will hit one of them, or one may knock me over.

Short as it was I can feel it in my legs, and as LaMa says my butt wasn't real happy about this. I can see that to get used to it I need to load it up and find a good flat paved place I can ride a mile or two. Just getting out of my drive is a relatively steep 400 ft of gravel. Not sure I want to try that without gaining a bit of confidence. But as they say, its just like riding a bike, it comes back to you pretty quickly.

I choose a bicycle as the form of exercise I want to try to do because I think it is something I'll like and am more likely to stick to than other forms of exercise. I grew up riding a bicycle to school everyday and as my more or less exclusive form of transport until I got old enough to drive. Then in college I got what we called an English Racer 10-speed. I rode it for a few years before it got stolen. I always like riding a bike, hope I still will, its been a long time. We don't live in an ideal place for bicycle riding, but I am sure I will be able to find safe enjoyable routes it will just take some trying. Fortunately I don't need anything like the long routes TM uses.

This is my first new bike that didn't come with tassels on the ends of the handlebars. Guess I'll learn to live without.

Rob put the dogs in a stay while you cycle . We do that or they think it’s fair game to play at our heels . Hope you have tons of enjoyable cycles

Great stuff Rob.

Yes dogs can get very much over excited around bikes. I agree; secure them away or everyone could get hurt.

The bike looks great. Even without the tassels!

It was a good day, ate well and I feel good.

Got the bike today and did a total of 5 laps around our gravel driveway, total distance about 1/2 miles and elevation change of 50 ft. No doubt the shortest bike ride reported on the forum, to date. My legs will take some work to get used to this, but it will happen.

Ate out this evening at a pizza place where my 16 year old grandson just started working, his first job. I had to order the pizza with tomatoes he recommended, the only toppings were tomatoes and jalapeno peppers. I ate 1/2 of a small personal size pizza along with a small side salad, no dressing. It was one of the largest meals I've eaten since starting this diet, but I did not eat a whole lot of calories in my other meals, so I think I am ok. I still feel full.

In 979 Vitale Candiano the 24th doge of Venice abdicated and died four days later. He had been doge only 14 months. I was once fortunate to get to spend a little time in Venice working. I think it was a better way to see and get to know Venice than as a tourist. Venice is my favorite all time city, I doubt I will ever see a city that will impress me the way Venice did. I read some books on Venetian history, that also helped. Its a fascinating place. Probably the most important city in Europe for almost a thousand years. A city without roads and cars and almost no buildings less than a few hundred years old is something to see.

You probably could have eaten the entire pizza by the look of it! I'm not much of a pizza fan but there's a spicy veggie pizza I sometimes buy that has just under 700 kcal for the whole thing even though there's cheese on it. Then again I have no idea of US portion sizes :)
Congratulations on your new title !

There is a pizza place we go to occasionally and they have a pizza with just under 500 calories. And they fill the plate with salad leaves . It's very good. My plan allows for a homemade pizza but I haven't made it yet . Keep thinking about it but never got around to it but I must . Your discipline is absolutely amazing.
