Ok hello M2M,
I musted posted somewhere lastnight and can't find it!Blonde
mode kicking in again.I did stop by and say hey lastnight and ask ya how fast (at a fast walking pace)should you complete a mile?I think I am walking
3 miles in 45 minutes I didn't exactly calculate it I just bought a pedometer
and can't figure out my stride. So a mile should be walked in how many
minutes for a good workout? I am going to read through the posts again because that bugs me I know I wrote ya it was late lol.
Have a GR8 day Tammy

Congrats to Megan - she's doing great and good luck at the slumber party... becareful 10 year olds can be animals and you're out numbered ..lol

Have a great day!!

OMG - you're not kidding!
8 girls, squealing with a fountain of chocolate? I don't know WHAT I was thinking when I said yes ;)

Hi Tammy - I think the pace is probably different for every one. A better way to guage your workout is to get your heart rate up and keep it in an aerobic range for at least 30 minutes. A lot of guides will tell you to walk like you are late for an appointment, but still be able to carry on a conversation (not like you would over coffee) ;) If you're not getting your heart rate up you need to either increase your speed or get some elevation changes (hills).

At 3 miles in 45 minutes, you're walking a 15 minute mile or 4 mph. When I started out, I was walking 3 miles in one hour and still seeing results based on where I was fitness wise at the time.

A quick guestimate of stride length, is to take your height in inches and multiply it by .413 (for women) .415 (for men), it's not completely accurate since our bodies are all different and while some people have shorter torsos and longer legs and vice versa.

My pedometer had me get up to walking speed, then measure out 10 steps (either toe to toe or heal to heal), take the distance in inches divide by 10 and you get your stride length. Then I had to do it for running.

I definitely have a dichotomy between the two figures:
69 inches * .413 = 28.49 or 29 inch stride
Measured distance walked = 31 inch stride

So it varies, but at least it gives you a basic idea.

The other way is to chart out a distance in a car, then set your pedometer for what you *think* your stride is. Walk the distance and see how close your pedometer matches up to what you know the distance is - then vary the stride length accordingly to match up.

Once you know your stride length - you shouldn't ever have to do it again :D

Thank you bunches M2M I will figur it out later hopefully I get to walk if it doesn't pour and the way it looks now BLAH! Have a good 1 Tammy

Way to go Megan.. WOOT WOOT!!!

And to you to M2M!

You are so brave... 8 girls.. OMG.... chocolate and pizza... dear lord.. What were you thinking

I hope the girls have a blast!

Dropping in to say hi....

*copy above line....moving to next diary to paste *:p
Silly 30-second bet posts rule! I'm running out of lunchtime!

Dropped by to say 'Hi' since I'll be gone until Monday. I'll miss the forum and the peeps here.

*rubs eyes* I'm getting sleepy, so off I go.

P.S. Another rule of thumb for walking stride is 2.5 feet (30 inches which happens to be close to yours). But as you said, it varies by torso/leg length and by height. One good tip when measuring is to step through a puddle after reaching normal walking pace, then the next few footsteps will show and be easily measured. If it's dry, you may have to make a puddle. I'm sure the neighbors will find you watering the concrete strange though. ;)

Were in the same boat. They call jogging when its actually as slow as your walk "slogging". I am definitely a slogger at this point.

lol @ the slogger term. The bright side is slogger is fun to say... c'mon, say it with me now... slogger.

the way m2m and fgt are going however slogging will soon be taken out and replaced with the more common term. trust me on this.

m2m, good luck in the trenches this weekend, err well with the party! Have fun while you're at it :)

Have a great day and enjoy that party...I think it sounds, fun, fun, fun...Ive been lucky so far...havent done the big ole sleep over...heeheehee...

LOL.. slogging, my kind of jog!

Becareful at the slumber party - never look them directly in the eye and never let them smell fear... if they get the best of you... RUN LIKE HELL!!! lol

Have a Great Day!!

Hi guys,
Today is the day for the slumber party - I worked yesterday so I have to clean and shop today. I didn't have time to ask to borrow the chocolate fountain, so I dug out my fondue pot and they can have their chocolate smores out of that.

I am concerned about tonight - I have a VERY small condo - 1200 square feet, two bedrooms and the idea of 8 girls in this tiny space has me a bit overwhelmed ;)

Megan started having sleepovers around 4-5 years old, but never more then two or three at a time. She had one slumber party when she was 7, 2 boys and 4 girls, but they were little-er then....

I'm not sure if the activities are planned well (this is what I get for having a 10 year old plan it) ;) I have one craft - little denim purses that look like skirts/pants along with beads & scribble paints to decorate. Megan will get the kareoke machine and has some board games planned - but most games don't accomodate 8 people very well. I think I'll set up a game of celebrity. I play it with my girl friends, but it might be cute to see what the kids come up with.

We'll put the tent up in the back yard, and I think they'll do make up and "glamour" stuff out there - but Megan wanted to sleep out there and tell spooky stories, but her best friend put the skids on that and said she'd go home if they do that ;)

The menu is planned - it reads from a dieter's disgust hand out:
Pizza, potato chips, doritos, ice cream, cake, chocolate fondue with berries, bananas, marshmallows, graham crackers and for breakfast, chocolate chip pancakes.

Good grief.

I did get my 5 mile walk in this morning, I'll post times later.

I'm sorry I haven't hit any diaries - I feel SO neglectful when you've all been great checking in on me.

Hopefully, by this next week I'll be back on track.
Hope you're all doing well :D

good to be a kid.. that's a healthy meal.... :D the party sounds like fun.. boo on the party pooper for nixing the spooky stories and sleepiing outside.. ghost stories are awesome.. it's just as easy to scare people.. inside :D

Sounds like a fun event... hope they all have fun

No worries, I think the space is quite adequate for the girlies. It could be a 23,000 square foot home and all 8 of them are going to huddle on top of each other like one big shadow anyway. :p :p

My daughter is VERY artsy and into crafts and fashion, she has made many of the little denim purses that look like skirts and the like. You'll be quite impressed with what they come up with, I know was.

Have fun, can't wait to hear all about how they drove you nuts after you recover! :p :p
