12packAbs Diary

Today my friends...I am officially back on track...

After a bit of a hiatus...I'm raring to go...especially after a buddy of mine made a "fat" comment on the weekend....it's all in good fun (we're good friends) but it always hurts a little...

I'm going to do my best to sign in here regularly. Tonight, after a week and a half off, it's back to karate 5 days a week and trying to eat well (and I think they're going to work me hard tonight after missing several classes).

Very light breakfast: 1 slice of whole wheat bread with becel and jam, and coffee
Missed my morning snack
Lunch
: Ham on whole wheat bread, large baby spinach salad with olive oil & balsamic vinegar dressing
Afternoon snacks with be a banana & some plain almonds, then later baby carrots and some cottage cheese
Dinner (sort of) Another ham sandwich on whole wheat bread
Something light when I get home from karate (maybe a spinach salad with some tuna)

Git 'er dun!

Oh man, you got me missing my martial arts training...
...I might have to do something about that!

Holy crap! M2M the machine! Very nice....it's been a while since you've done it then? You should definitely do something about it...especially if you really enjoyed it - that can make a huge difference.

I have been slowly toying with the idea and when no one is around, I've started working on some of my old katas.

I've considered calling up my old instructor (Chuck Sullivan) and see if he's still teaching. I miss it. A lot.

I know - and more then just the physical benefits - I loved knowing my body was strong and capable.

I also loved the "play" aspect of martial arts. By the time we grow up and move out of kidhood - we no longer get to tussle with people. Guys do if they keep up with football, but after that, there isn't that kind of play anymore.

The type of exercising I love is what feels like playing to me - as opposed to going to a gym where it feels like a job - or just something that has to be endured until it's over, vs something I can play.

Martial arts filled that need.

I'm having a pretty good day so far...

Last night I was back at karate after a week and a half off...and other than feeling a little stiff, it was great. Unfortunately, we went out for beer and wings afterwards....ooops...so 3 beers and 12 wings later....

But today is another day....
Instead of taking the elevator to the 7th floor, I took the stairs this morning. After I ate my lunch I went for a 45min walk and then took the stairs back up to the office.

Breakfast: Bean burrito with a little cheese & salsa on whole wheat & flax wraps (strange thing for breakfast maybe, but I was making them for lunch so I had one for breakfast too) and an apple
Snack: Banana, plain raw almonds
Lunch: 2 bean burritos with a little cheese & salsa on whole wheat & flax wraps, large baby spinach salad with olive oil & balsamic vinegar, green tea
Afternoon snack: will be cottage cheese & baby carrots
Dinner: Chicken & veggie stirfry with noodles

I plan on doing some stretching tonight, and probably a short workout (hindu squats, hindu pushups, planks & abs).

Well every little bit helps, right?

I try to do as much as I kind on the days that I'm in the mood too, then when I slack off a little it's not as bad I guess.

I'm going to try and take the stairs from now on...but we'll see...

How you doing M?

I'm doing better - I know I'll feel better when I'm back out there MOVING! I took some time off exercising because my feet were showing some serious problems looming - so I've given them a rest and plan to be back on the trails by Monday.

I pulled out my karate mats from the garage - I'm thinking I might start out slowly with stretching, I also pulled out my old gi's and actually tried them on - they fit and that's a huge accomplishment ;) You've given me the itch.

Yeah Girl! Awesome!!!!

Get streching, start with a little material and before you know it...you'll be practising again.

Go M! Go M! Go M!

I just got a new gi, and oh man it was like stepping into an Armani suit compared to what I had before....way more comfortable with a good quality gi.

You're right about a good quality gi - I've had some that feel like pj's - way too soft, my competition gi with my name embroidered is too heavy - I have one that has the right weight and a good pull factor.

So - in the midst of writing this response to you, I opened a new window and went on line and looked up my old instructors (Chuck Sullivan, Ju Dan, 4th under Ed Parker) and sent them an email. It will be interesting to see if I get a response - thanks for the motivation 12pack :D

12, good to see your back on the wagon! I hadn't stopped by in awhile... beer and wings? damn that actually sounds pretty good right now. Anywho, just checkin up on ya... have a good one!
