12packAbs Diary

Well at this rate...I won't be doing any private shows either.... :( Not much progress lately...

I have been feeling pretty crappy for the last couple of weeks now...very tired and unmotivated...I'm craving junk food too. I am allowing myself to have small treats occaisionally, but the last couple of days I pretty much only feel like eating junk food...arghh....

I missed karate class Monday night, but I went last night and I'm going again tonight. Last night I was feeling quite tired and not energetic at all. I hate feeling like this. I guess I just need to get through the next couple of days and get out of this slump.

Yesterday I had a 45min nap before class, and I think I'll do the same tonight - I think not getting enough sleep is what's doing me in.

Breakfast: Bran Flakes and All Bran with 2% milk
Morning: 2 XL coffees between 9 and 11am
Lunch: Wrap (homemade hummus and sliced cucumber in a whole wheat & flax wrap) and a bean burrito (homemade refried beans with some cheese & salsa)

I have food packed for the rest of the day so I should be eating well:

Afternoon snack: Baby carrots and cottage cheese
Dinner before karate: Ham sandwich, large baby spinach salad with olive oil and balsamic vinegar

Hopefully I feel a little better at tonight's class and then get to bed at a decent time.

Hi Twelve! Hang in there, the low spot will pass and you will be super sexy in no time. Course if your avatar is any indication then your already there... and I've said to much.

Have a great day!! ;)

12pack,
I know how hard it can be to get motivated. At least you're not giving up. We all know how easy it can be to just give up. Get more sleep and keep talking to yourself. Eventually you'll talk yourself back into being motivated.

It sounds like you're eating really well so thats great. I love hummus. I've never made it homemade though. What all do you put in yours? I have canned chick peas already so thats the main part...right?

I also see that you make your own refried beans. I love those too. I take the canned kind though and mix salsa, a little cheese, and sometimes splenda(cuz I like it even better when it's sweet) all together and maybe warm it up a minute in the microwave. I can actually eat it right out of the can...lmao. I know... it's nasty! I hear it all the time.

Hang in there ok. Just keep working on getting your energy back. Sometimes you can fall into a slump and it's hard to get out of BUT you can do it.

Jessica

Thanks ladies..:) .it's nice to hear words of encouragement when feeling down....just having a few of those days where I could literally eat everything I could get my hands on....I did have pizza for lunch today...hopefully that satisfies my cravings for a bit...

I also gave in last night and went for a few beers after karate.....that felt waaaaaaay too good...

I made homemade hummus for a party a few weeks back from a recipe I got off of a website - it turned out ok, but this time I just threw in a can of chick peas, some sesame seeds (couldn't find any sesame paste), some lemon juice, a clove of garlic, some olive oil and a little salt and pepper. It turned out pretty good...plus it's a fraction of the cost of the prepared stuff and I know exactly what goes into it...

And the refried beans was a similar method...I bought dried pinto beans, cooked em up and put in some chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, coriander and some salt and white pepper. I ended up putting a little too much salt and pepper in that batch...better luck next time. It's part of an effort to eat less processed stuff and see what I can make from scratch.

I think tonight's dinner is pasta casserole...I usually use brown rice pasta (lower Glycemic Index than regular pasta) but I'm going to use the regular stuff tonight. The problem will be portion control - I can easily eat two full plates of the stuff.

Oh yeah...and I sprained my ankle last night...argghhh...now both ankles are sore...

Gotta think positive. Gotta think positive. Gotta think positive.

Howdy Twelve!! Positive thinking is your friend! You CAN do it!!!

Mmmm homemade bean dip & hummus sounds sooo yummers! I made my own tahini for the last batch humus I made. Turned out awesome. The premade stuff just doesnt compare, makes my tongue & throat burn. Bleh. Which makes me really wonder whats in it....

Sorry to hear about your ankle(s) - Yikes! Maybe you should take it easy before you really hurt yourself!...lol

Have a great Friday!!

I know how it feels to be tired - its aweful.

Trying doing something cardio first thing in the morning even though you feel unmotivated. It might help rev things up for the day and help you sleep better so you feel more inclined the next day etc :)

My thoughts are with you etc :D

Portion control is a tough one. How are you handling it?

19 lbs lost???? You are well on your way, aren't you?

Thanks everyone - this forum is a great source of support and you all make this much better...

Hey Pequin - care to share that tahini recipe?

Wishes - I can honestly say that I've been tired since I was a teenager...I can't really remember not feeling tired since then...I've had doctor's check me out, had blood analysis done, went to a sleep clinic, etc....I think I just need way more sleep than I can get...it definitely makes life (and exercise) much more difficult...once I don't have the motivation....that makes it even harder...

I went to bed at 9pm last night, so I feel a little better this morning.

I've been at this approximate weight on and off for...oh...probably 5 or 6 years...although I guess I had a lot more muscle 6 years ago...but I've been up to around 230 twice....periods where I just kinda lost control and went a little overboard. Last summer I was down to around 190 and training like crazy for my bike races....then at the start of 2006 I started working longer hours, didn't get much excercise (winter months can be difficult for a cyclist) and started drinking a lot. I just didn't care, and found myself getting close to 230 lbs.

Portion control...
For the most part, I find the effectiveness of my portion control with vary considerably with my mood. If I'm feeling good, I have a much easier time eating reasonable amounts...but if I'm not feeling good, then I tend to overeat (so yes, food is an emotional crutch for me....along with beer)...I try to think about how much food I should be having and how much I want to have and then try to make an internal comprimise..

Gotta go do some work...be back later

Thanks everyone!!! :)

Hey Strangers!

I've been thinking about everyone and I hope you are all doing well....I just haven't been here regularly lately...

Been doing fairly well since the last time I stopped by...I'm down in weight a little more at about 210...just 25 pounds more to go

I've sprained both of my ankles at karate and both of my big toes...damn that hurts....trying to be extra careful and take it a little easier on my ankles while they (very very) slowly get better....it's those damn mats at karate....well, they're great in every other respect, but my toes/ankles have a little trouble...

I definitely don't want to take any time off...my ankles take a long time to heal, and I'll just gain back 10lbs while I'm sitting on my butt and healing...so forget that! Especially with the holiday season upon us...treats all over the place...bad for us to lose weight with all of those goodies around...

Well, hopefully the home computer will get fixed soon.....ciao for now!;)

OUCH!!! :(
Hope they feel better soon!

Hey there! Hope those feet and toes get better quick. Foot pain is the worst!!! What a great way to injure yourself though, karate rocks! I finally recovered from a knee injury from too many roundhouse kicks last spring. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Hey gang - Happy New Year....a little belated, i know...

Well...I've been at the same weight for a couple of months now (214lbs)...strange number, but it keeps showing up on the scale.

So, for the 57th time, I'm really serious about losing weight now...lol...

I've been eating pretty well this week...Wednesday and Thursday nights were cheat nights, but otherwise I've eaten really well. Thursday was a night off after 6 consecutive days of training...sheesh, I'm pooped. Back at it again tonight for what could be another 6 days in a row, but we'll see how I feel.

I've kept active over the last couple of months (karate 3-5 times a week), but I think the holidays set me back a little. Oh well!

I'm cutting back a bit on the coffee (my coffee cut-off is 3:30pm) then I have green tea. Yes, green tea has a little caffeine, but not nearly as much as coffee and it has lots of antioxidants too. I'm also trying to limit alcohol consumption as much as possible...I'm going to allow myself to have 2-3 beers per week, but I hope to cap it at that.

I've started getting acupuncture treatments this week...2 so far...for fatigue. I have high hopes for improvements in my daily energy levels...so we'll see what happens over the next few weeks.
