You made me laugh! Living in the bush in Australia is far from boring :)
I think we are seeing more wildlife up here now because we are home more & doing more outside work. Also Summer was much hotter than usual.
D just messaged me to say he will call in tonight & definitely try to "wrangle" the snake :)
 
Do you know what kind of moths you´re seeing? For the clothes and food moths you just buy pheromone traps but I don´t know if those exist for other species.
 
Cate your life sounds like a bit of Born Free except no lions lol. I have to say I often come across a stray cow or sheep here .
All those snakes being born sound like a lot to have around the place but shame your neighbor kills them .
 
Are clothes-eating moths also attracted to light? If so maybe you could put a fly paper strip up next to a light you turn on and catch them that way? Just a thought off the top of my head.

The Australian bush sounds lovely!
 
I found a baby black widow in my garage yesterday and thought of you as I screamed like a child killing it - I would never make it if I lived near you!
 
LaMa- I'm not sure what moths they are(little dark grey ones), but I just looked up pheromone traps & will see if our local hardware store has them. We are finding them everywhere. It hasn't happened before.
Petal- Queensland has crazier wildlife than we do. Crocodiles & huge Pythons would freak me out I think. It is a shame about the neighbour. I won't tell him when we see a snake near his place again.
Marsia- They are attracted to the light & that is where I will hang these strips when I get some. The Australian bush is lovely. Maybe you'll get to visit one day........:)
M2M- You get used to wildlife & most spiders & snakes don't want to be anywhere near you. Your Black Widow spider I think is related to the Australian Redback spider & we had those when I lived in country Victoria as a kid. I was petrified of them. I used to be scared of so many creatures, but have overcome most of those fears. It's funny that you thought of me.

D didn't catch the snake. He saw him & had him pinned down, but he couldn't grab him with the snake tongs. He's coming back Sunday to have another try. He thinks he may be a Tiger snake after all, rather than a Copperhead. He is definitely big & he is obviously quite happy here & not just passing through.

We have old friends visiting today so more housecleaning needed & we are going out tonight to listen to more live music. I had better get moving!
 
I was watching a programme about an area in India where these ladies are like park rangers . One of them had to catch a huge snake that was living near a village . It kept hiding in rocks . Lots of time and patience was required . They just rehome them to an uninhabited area.

Enjoy the visitors I have some next week and the cleaning has not yet begun !
 
I'm enjoying the adventure stories. It's a different sort of life to here, that's for sure.

My great aunt had a home in upstate New York, I think that's the only time I ever saw a wild snake. Her house was by the river and we saw a snake in the garden. I was about 9 at the time, it was quite exciting.
 
Emily, I grew up in upstate NY in farm country, and snakes found me where ever I went. I would lift bales of hay for mulching the garden and a nest of babies and the mom would look up at me, we'd go hiking and I'd nearly put my hand on a rattler, I'd be checking out a pond in an arboretum and a water moccasin would be racing toward me across the pond like a heat seeking missile... Lots of other friendlier wild life, too!

Cate, hope the next time is the charm in catching the snake. That must be nerve wracking having your son try to catch a big poisonous snake!! Have a great time with friends and live music - sounds wonderful!

I am a lot less stressed without the golf club & consequently, the animals/fire etc are exciting, but not super stressful. Well the fire was stressful, but I sprung into my fire action plan, rather than panicking.

That's what D will do when he catches it. He really has a way with them. He'll take it down into our bush probably. We had a lovely time with our visitors, although he wore a reeking aftershave! I had to keep my distance. His lovely wife remembered though. They are such good friends. I love them both.

It's a very different life to our old city life too, Em, although I was brought up in the country. I was such a sook when I was a kid. I was afraid of spiders, snakes, horses & :blush5: cows. These days I find it all exciting.

I hope so too, Marsia. It isn't nerve-wracking at all as I know that he is very careful with them& knows what he is doing. He doesn't take any risks with them.
The catch-up was great & they stayed for 4 hours. We didn't have time for "dinner" so just had some toast & headed out. The music was excellent & we danced for hours. One of the women golfers was there & she was very friendly. She told me the women were "shattered" that I had quit. I don't much like her I must admit as she is very opinionated & very full of herself. Self-confidence is a good thing, but she takes it to the nth degree. We caught up with lots of lovely people & had a great night. The music was really good. Most of my steps yesterday were from dancing.

We missed our son actually catching the snake as we went into town to help (do) the draw for the vets tournament.....*sigh*
D waited for us to get home & we got to see the snake which was a large Copperhead (4-5' long). D has taken it way out to another area & let it go. I have some great photos & saw a video on snapchat. It was not happy!
LaMa- you just posted. He took it about 10km away as it would have found its way back, even 1km to the back of our land.
I realise that we will not be able to go back to our old golf club as G would just end up doing what he has always done & I am not going to go back down that path. He does not even know how to turn on a computer so I do all of that stuff. I will not be doing it again. I think I know where we will go, but we won't join anywhere else until next year.

Hi Cate glad you got the snake and a had a great night out .
Think it's good not to join anywhere for a year . You seem to be enjoying the respite from the golf club .
 
I'm glad D got the snake too, but I'm sure there will be plenty more about & we'll be very careful & stomp about when we walk anywhere.
I am so glad that we left the club, although they are not letting go easily. G was awake a lot during the night worrying about the old guy who is trying to do it all on his own. He really thinks we're coming back. I'm starting to really feel that we won't. We will not join anywhere this year, for sure. I think until we do go elsewhere they will keep hoping & keep pulling in the lines, trying to catch us up again.
G is heading away with a few of his golfing mates for a couple of nights away & a game.

I just realised I hadn't posted the above.
I have gained weight & am trying not to freak out about it!
 
Wow, dancing and giant snake catching and freedom from the ball and chain golf club (that sounds like a fun cartoon)! It does sound like they are trying to rope you back in, so maybe you could make a deal with G to drive him to the club that's further away or something so that he doesn't go to the old club on his own and get reenlisted. Does he understand that the old guy who took on his duties is working him? G sounds like he doesn't remember to take care of himself if he feels that someone needs him. I would make a "G first!" note for the bathroom mirror!!

I bet you can just dance your way back to your old weight really quickly!
 
Hi, Marsia. I have been enjoying our new life a lot, & hope you're right about the weight being danced away quickly. G is such a lovely guy, but he is a terrible sucker when it comes to someone playing him as you say. I know that M is playing both of us & we need to stay away. G has said we will call in on our way back from Hobart next weekend & help him look up all the handicaps for all the players in the tournament. This means me doing them. It takes a couple of hours. That will absolutely be it. I am really going to put my foot down. Then I am going to start organising golf games at other clubs. I do have one in particular in mind. He really likes the course too & when I suggested we may consider joining there next year he said "That's funny. I have been thinking the same thing." We'll start playing there on non-competition days & take it from there. I love the course & it's right near the beach & where I might like to live one day.
I had better do something. He's not back until Wed morning. I might sort through some more stuff. Tomorrow I may visit a friend who lives up the coast.
