Cate's Diary

It is & he is, thanks Tru. The tooth was cracked & had to come out. Our dentist is wonderful. We're back home now & he's sound asleep. It's a relief that he'll not be in pain.

Thanks, LaMa. He just has a slight ache on that side of his face as it was very hard to get out(the roots were wrapped around bone). He's back to normal though. Phew! Grumpy G isn't good :(

It's another rainy day today & the Vets golf won't happen, but we still have to go out there & I have an 11 am doctor's appointment anyway. We'll do a little food shopping. At least with rain, it's not quite so cold.

Another healthy eating day yesterday. I had one glass of wine. Would have been about 1300 cals for the day I think. I'm not counting though.

That is true LaMa........but- obligations.....
We are both getting better at not feeling AS obligated, but we still have moral commitments.

Saw my GP this morning & told her I'm sticking with the AD's this time. She has changed my blood pressure meds as it's still too high. It's a tricky juggle though as my resting heart rate is low. The diuretic component has been increased, so I'm going to have to up my water intake. I have been thirsty with the AD meds!
I'm booked in to see her again in 2 weeks & I'll see how I go. Blood pressure is a weird thing.
I'll pop back later I think, xoC

I had stomach cramps during the night & am still in pain, so did not go to golf. My GP wants me to eat some gluten every day & then go for a blood test. She & the pathology nurse seem to think it will give a fair indication of whether I am coeliac. She also wants me to be tested for lactose intolerance. I'll give it a couple more days if I can.

Our son, R, went to see a new GP in Hobart 2 weeks to ask to get onto a mental health program. He spent quite some time with this GP & told him about being diagnosed with bipolar etc & that he was ready to try medication & see a psychologist. The GP said he would like him to also see a psychiatrist. First, he wanted R to have blood tests. R had the blood tests & never heard back from the practice. I told him to call in which he did yesterday & was told by the receptionist-"We only contact you when the blood tests show something." There was no follow-up appointment made & he felt they just didn't care. He had rung me just before I went in to see my GP. I told her about it & she was horrified. I wish he could see her. G & I have been thinking about how we can help him get proper care & treatment. Coming up here may be an option. It's not straightforward though, because of his house, his dog, his job etc. Having to go over & over everything with every new person he sees must be awful for him!

I'm going to have a quiet day at home today. G is still in a bit of pain but is getting better. He was in the dentist's chair for about 1 & 1/2 hours.

Not doing follow-up unless tests show something worrying is the norm here but when someone comes in with serious, untreated mental health problems who´s finally starting to think about getting treatment that´s definitely not what happens.

Could you encourage him to make a follow-up appointment regardless? It sounds like he's done the hard bit. I know it's not the way it should be but things seldom are.

I typed a really long post & then posted it & it was duplicated, so I deleted one & then both disappeared & could not be retrieved. Grrrrr!
Briefly-
* R doesn't want to go back to that GP.
* I said I thought a woman doctor might suit him better & he agreed.
* G, a female mutual friend, is already chasing up a female GP/Psychologist for him to see.
* I have been feeling unwell, either due to eating gluten for this test or fighting a head cold.
* G is still in a bit of pain but is getting better.
* It's a sunny day, but cold.

Yay for friend G! The kind of friends your son keeps shows what a marvelous person he is. Hope you feel better soon.

Looks like progress.
Love cold days......

Cold days seem like a distant memory right now. It's been in the upper 90s most of this week with the heat index in the 100s. I can't stand the heat to begin with so I can't wait until Fall gets here.

I have what must be a really bad head cold today. I have been fighting it all week I think. I can't seem to get my head around anything, so am retreating into a curled up ball.

Thanks, LaMa & Butterfly. I do feel a bit better today. Just had a dental checkup & G is having some fillings. I told the dentist that I think I've been grinding my teeth & he thought I had. My mouth has been so dry. He said anxiety & stress will do that. He is very switched on. He has recommended chewing sugarless gum every day. It's funny because I normally do, but decided to stop about a month ago thinking it was unhealthy! I'll buy some today!
I'll check diaries later xo

Grinding gum ALL day will raise the tension in your jaw muscles and make nightly clenching more likely, but if you don´t overdo it it shouldn´t be a problem.

Hey Cate, sorry you haven't been feeling fantastic. I hope your energy levels go back up and you are ready for anything once more. Take care. x
