WillLose's Journey to 120!

Hi!

Still 148.0 lbs.

Worked my butt off at that step aerobics class yesterday! It ran a little over because it was a make-up class, and there was no class after it. So... about an hour and 10 minutes. Sweated up a storm! Tried to get in my water. Also did my half hour of bowling. My mom now says that she needs exercise, but doesn't want to... I offered up my wii fit and bowling and stuff (hey, it's a start, and it's low-impact!), but she said nah. She doesn't want people to see her doing her exercises. haha, she would need to wake up earlier than me. Umm... I wake up around 5 a.m.! She has high blood pressure and cholesterol, so I am worried about her... I would like her to get healthy, and I'll help in any way I can. I offered to walk with her too. I think she said no to that too. Maybe she would walk with my dad when his ankle heals... (he broke it about 4 days ago, really badly) :(.

I had to take the pedometer off for step class since my gym pants didn't have any pockets. Then I forgot to put it back in my pocket afterwards. Anyway, I didn't get a good read. So I will try again today. I put it in my pocket at 7:30 a.m. I have the feeling that the clip-on may be more accurate, but I don't like it because it sticks out and everyone can see that you're wearing it... bummer.

Great job on your weight loss so far. :) I really need to start measuring myself so I can check progress there too.

I like peanut butter, but I have a problem with portion control with peanut butter. I also don't like the protein to calories ratio, but it's probably all just a matter of preference.

Thanks ymcachick!

Yesterday and today have been bad days so far... my parents have lost both of my indoor cats :( First my mom opened a window that didn't have a screen in it and my one little kitty jumped out yesterday afternoon, then my dad opened up the same window, and the other kitty jumped out this morning (first story window). How come no one's opened this window all this year, and then two people open it within 24 hrs and let both of my cats out???? I'm crying like a baby here.

Hi WillLose

Hope you are doing ok, you are right 145lbs is top scale for 5' 4'', although I just read a chart which says 108-132 lbs is ideal so I am now a little confused. I think that is a total guide only though and can depend on our frame etc.

When I went to Weight Watchers, they told me 10st 6lbs max to get within my BMI and to be honest, I felt great at that, a nice size 12. I used to be 8 stone or so in my teens, amazing how much we change with age.

Anyhow, I think I shall be aiming for 10 stone in the end to get well within and keep track of my weight from then on. Best of luck to you, sounds like you had a busy time of it.

Hey, I hope the cats get home safe and sound.

Hi Crazymaizy!

Yeah, there's some kind of difference between the top range for your height and what your "ideal weight" is. The ideal weight is (i think) somewhere down at the lower end. My goal is to be somewhere around 115-120 lbs. I felt okay around there. Guess I've got a long way to go! I think any weight that you feel good at is a good weight to stay at though!

UPDATE! One of my cats has been found! Actually, he came right back to us :) He came back to the back door. I think he was hungry because he immediately made a beeline for his food bowl heehee:) Looked like he had taken a dip in the brook in back of our house, and he was a little stinky too! But definitely glad to be back, purring and rubbing against my legs while I served him his food and dried him off and stuff. I was DEFINITELY glad to have him back as well :) Now one more cat left to find... :(

Hey,

Went to my dietitian today and she thinks that I am losing weight at a good rate! She wants me to bump up my calories to 1200, and she (ugh) wants me to maintain around 135 lbs. she said today :puke:

Right now, I look the same as I did 20 lbs. ago, nothing's changed. I'm still gross. I don't think another 15 lbs. is going to make me feel any better. I'd rather be the weight that I feel comfortable at, and that is more 115-120 lbs.

Hi everyone!

I decided to get a jump on exercise this morning and did the Wii Fit for 52 minutes already! Hehe, all before 7:30 a.m.! Slept pretty well last night, for the first night in about a week, and felt pretty energized this morning, so wanted to exercise right away before I lost my drive. Had to make myself eat breakfast beforehand.

With the Wii Fit, I did mainly the step aerobics, which is my favorite, so I got a pretty good workout. When I put it in the fitness calculator at this site I go to though, I only counted it as low impact (i didn't really get my heart rate up too much). It said I only burned 152 calories. It was still worth it though! I turned on some cool music and danced and sang in between the exercises :) Haha, I think I should count the dancing for something as well, even though I'm a horrible dancer with "two left feet" and no rhythm! Still had fun! I'm still singing!

For breakfast I had .5 cup blueberries, .5 cup blueberries, and not much lite soymilk because I just got grossed out about it all of the sudden, I don't know why. What is wrong with me? I saved the rest for later.

Hi, I just read through your diary. I know how you feel about "contaminated" food. I'm glad your becoming conscious of it. I too started looking at labels a few weeks ago and was horrified at the dangers of chemicals found in our diet. I watched an interview with Jack LaLaine on youtube, he was about 90 years old then, he said "if God don't grow, I don't eat it." That's exactly how I feel now.

Some ingredients/chemicals that are a no no no for me:
hydrogenated (or margerine, shortening)
aspartame
maltodextrin (splenda)

or basically anything I can't pronounce :)

There's no point in us working so hard for a new body when all we're going to do is poison it. Good luck with your diet, you're doing fabulous!

Hi 18%! I was just looking at your last diary entry! It made me go and look at my own body fat percentage and set my own goal. I think my goal is somewhere around 15%, though I would be happy with 18% as well. Sounds like a good goal! My body fat at the moment is 27.67%, so I've got quite a while to go.

As for the contaminated foods, I know what you mean! It's good to try to stay away from foods with ingredients like that. I try to do the same thing.

Thank you for saying I'm doing fabulous. You are too!!!

Really not feeling it today...

Ick. Feeling yucky today... my TOM. Got on the scale yesterday and was up THREE pounds! :banghead: I know, it's all explainable, but that just scared me a little... so much that I didn't get on the scale today.

Feeling like a lump today. Did 30 minutes Yoga and ran some random errands for however long, but it's like I don't really care today. I guess everyone needs a day off every now and then. I feel like I don't deserve one though. Feel like I should push myself to do some 30 minutes of aerobics and some more exercise after that, but all I feel like doing is sitting here and singing (I love to sing :) ). Blah blah.

Maybe tomorrow everything will be okay.

WillLose60

Get off your butt and workout! You can sing while you move!! There are goals to be met :)

Well,

Didn't get as much exercise in as had hoped today... did half an hour aerobics and half an hour bowling.

Ate like a pig :piggy:

breakfast:
1 cup FiberOne Cereal
.5 cup Silk Soymilk Lite

Lunch:
Tomato Sandwich
string cheese

Dinner:
Chicken with vegetables

I really want a Wii so I can try out the Wii fit programs. Do you think it's worth the investment?

By the way, I think you should go for the weight that you feel most comfortable at. You can do it :)

ymcachick,

I personally think that it is worth the investment! I bought the original system myself and the Wii Fit too when it first came out ( Geez, I waited on at least 3 lines at 6 a.m. to get it too... grrr.). I like the EA Sports Active game a lot! I just received it for my birthday. Have been working out on it every day almost!

Hmm.. let's see what else... with the pedometer yesterday.. so embarrassed! Won't even tell you what the reading was at the end of the day. But today I'm doing much better. I put it on at 7:30 a.m. and it's 5:00 pm and I'm at 9,200 steps already. I have no doubt I'll reach my ten thousand steps for the day. Can't wait until I have a job again, then I'll be rockin'! I usually get active jobs, so I can't wait.. if only it weren't a bad economy...

Best of luck on the job hunt lady, I'm grateful every day to be employed at all.
Seems like you are staying on track and doing well. A few things -

1.) you mentioned something about being bad with calories - find a good website (I like ) and use it for a while. Also, keep at it with the measuring cups and scales and after a while you will get a good feel for the whole deal and be able to ballpark it very well.

2.) You already know it, cause you have mentioned it, but get that strength training in. Your body adapts and needs variety in your routine to stay ahead of the game......and all I see is tons of cardio.

3.) Finally, even on the days you say you ate like a pig I think you are undereating. Bumping up to 1200 calories? I heard they give coma patients 1200 cals a day.

(and similar sites) says you need 1540 cals a day for your BMR (base metabolic rate). Up that for all the cardio and drop 250 cals or so a day for a healthy deficit and you have a more realistic number. I strongly suspect soem days you do not even hit 1000 cals. shame shame

Honestly, you can work your fingers to the bone with exercise and not see the results you should unless you have the kitchen aspect of things mastered.

Also, did the other kitty come home? I need to know so I can sleep well.

Hi!

Thank you for responding to my journal! It's always nice to see someone in here! I'll try to answer some of your questions.

I have been using sparkpeople.com to calculate my calories, but am thinking of going back to fitday. I think I like them better in that aspect. I will still use sparkpeople for other things though. I do use measuring cups, but not a scale though. I think I might have one around somewhere though. Will have to get it out.

I do get to 1,000 cals some days, but not most sorry to say :( . I'm afraid because the calories that I burn are so little. I know I need to start strength training more (I do a little. Sometimes I don't mention it. It's mixed in with the cardio).

I'll go to the sites you mentioned. Thank you very much for your information:)

Oh... my kitty did not come home :( I put food out for her and search for her still:(

I find a cheap little kitchen scale to be invaluable for managing portion size on meat.

At least you are honest about it. =D Seriously though, get those cals up girl and you will see an increase in how quickly your body sheds the extra weight.....plus more energy (which means harder and more productive workouts, right?).

Oh... my kitty did not come home :( I put food out for her and search for her still:(

WillLose60

I am so sorry. My last cat did the same thing - ran off and never came back. I'll be praying that this one is just slow to return and shows up in another day or three.

Somewhat good news! My kitty Kasha has been spotted out in the yard! She hasn't been caught and brought home yet though:( We've put food out for her and it's been eaten though, so that's a good sign.

As for me, I'm down a pound today. Today is an all-day babysitting day. The kids are still here and it's 7 p.m. Started at 6 o'clock this morning and has been non-stop ever since. Some days are just like this! I love my nieces and nephew though:)

Yesterday I got in 11,131 steps in! Today's kinda crappy.. I'm only at 8,000 and it's 7 p.m. Got in lots of different kinds of exercise yesterday though. Resistance bands, running around with the kids, cardio/strength training mix and some other stuff. I think it totaled 1 hour 21 minutes.

Down another half a pound today!

Tried Fitday.com today and plugged in yesterday's meals. There's such a calorie difference between Sparkpeople and Fitday. I made sure I put in the same foods and the same amounts and still, fitday came up about 200 calories different in the end (Fitday was lower).

Wow, never buying FiberOne cereal again. Forgot to look at the nutrition label in the store (?) and there are about 50 carbs in the darn thing. In one serving! Maybe the kids will eat it...

Made a custom strength training workout on my Wii Sports Active this morning. It's about 10 minutes long (give or take) and uses the resistance band and everything. Sorry it's only ten minutes, but I think I have ADD and I can't do really ANYTHING for more than 10 minutes.

Jun 09 steps: 11,131
Jun 10 steps : stupid 8,137

How's the Wii Fit working for you? I have the Wii, but have been eyeing the Wii Fit for quite sometime. I want to know if it actually works or is worth the money. Let me know how your experience with it has been...pleeease. :D
