WillLose's Journey to 120!

KaraCooks,

Oh, I see what you mean. So, have a equal carbs and protein snack before I go to workout. Yeah I don't think I planned that out too well. I think I had lunch around 1-2 p.m. and then had my aerobics class at 5:30 p.m. I had dinner after the class (which I hate doing so late, but it's a family thing) I don't recall what I had, or if I had snacks, but anyway... next time I will plan better.

I do find myself getting dizzy a lot though. Even after I've eaten ( no matter what it may be). I just had an Egg Beaters and american cheese omelet w/ some veggies in it for dinner, and then I felt dizzy out in the yard playing with my nieces. Usually it's just when I'm getting up from a kneeling or sitting position, but sometimes, it just hits me. Probably low blood sugar.

and Hello Kimmy.J!!!! Thank you for visiting my journal!!!

My "During" Pictures

I just posted a couple of "During" pictures to the Before/During/After Forum... umm.. how come I've lost 5 lbs in the past couple of weeks and yet in my photo, I look fatter? Of course, I am wearing different clothing, but wha... I don't understand it. I just look much worse now. It's like the more weight I lose, the fatter I look. What's wrong with me?

cleaning house

Today's exercise has so far been:
20 mins Wii Sports Bowling
25 mins Wii Fit Yoga/ Strength Exercises/Balance
20 mins walking
and 30 mins cleaning the house (I am on break now! :) ) lazy!

Now off to clean the house again. Went to the store and stocked up on some blueberries and some more light Silk Soymilk because I keep seeing those commercials about 2% milk being as much fat as a small sized french fry thingy. Not good. So it's either Soymilk or no milk.

Forgot lunch. Been forgetting a lot of things lately. Might be my meds...

I think I've finally been getting it right. For the past, I don't know... week, I've been losing half a pound about every other day, I'd say. Sounds good to me.

I've been getting in about an hour or more of exercise a day. trying to write in what I eat as much as I can (which I will procede to do now).. and just trying to get in as much exercise as is humanely possible.

Today's intake:
Breakfast: banana with maybe 2 tsp peanut butter.
late, late lunch: Morningstar veggie burger (2 slices whole wheat "double fiber" bread), oh yeah and a peach.
Snack: string cheese
Dinner:Morningstar veggie burger (sans bread.. .no more carbs!) and a string cheese!
Maybe more exercise later on as well!

What do you think? Am I still getting too many carbs in? If so, I'll skip the bread on the veggie burger tonight or something, and rethink what I'm having tomorrow.

Party!!!

Today's my birthday party  , and tomorrow's my birthday! I am a girly-girl, so I painted my nails pink with "grapefruit shimmer", and am wearing a pretty pale pink dress so I can be the princess of the party (my niece says I'm a princess!) Oh yeah, it's my twin's birthday too :blush5: I got her a present! She collects little pink elephants oddly enough, and I found one nestled in the corner of a store that I shop in, so I bought it for her! You wouldn't believe how many she actually has! The collection was started by my grandma, who had these little "obsessions". I have no idea what I'm getting since all I asked for was some pajamas (summery ones since I have nasty night sweats due to meds... and I'm a pajama fiend!). It's also a party for my little sister, since her birthday was on the 23rd, but we won't talk about her.... she doesn't count! Just kidding! I got her these peppermint puff candies that she likes (I don't have much money... no job at the moment).
I've made a vow not to talk about food (except to compliment the gourmet chef... my mom!) today, and I'm trying not to weigh myself until tomorrow. Come around 1pm, it's time to PARTY with my sister and twin!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone,

For my birthday, I received Nintendo Wii EA Sports Active! So psyched! My aerobics class was canceled for tonight, so I figured I'll try that out instead, and I want to play some other games as well. Really excited though! It comes with resistance bands! I haven't had much of a chance to check it out as today's been a really busy day. This whole week's busy, I think. I guess because it's a short week.

Sad to say, I messed up yesterday... I had birthday cake :cuss: Still am a half a pound down from two days before, so I guess it's good, but didn't reach my birthday goal weight... damned cake!

The reason I'm not trying out my new Wii Sports Active right now is because I'm babysitting my wonderful niece and she is sleeping right now. Can't wake the child!

WillLose60

So today was better food-wise, had almost all protein and fruits/veggies. Only diid 45 mins exercise today because my parents were glued to the tv and my exercise class was canceled. Part of it was Wii Sports, and part of it was activities outside with my niece. Boy can those girls wear you out!

I am the fattest person in the world. I look around me and all I see are beautiful, skinny people. Heck, even if they are heavy, they are beautiful. But not me. I am a fat, ugly, tub of lard. I have stretch marks that won't go away even if I am skinny (believe me, I've been extremely skinny... they won't go away). Terrible cellulite dimples that won't go away with any cream or magic pill. Whatever. Why can all these people just go around, eating what they want, not gaining weight, and I have to go on a "lifestyle change". I GIVE UP.

Today's weight is still 150.0 lbs. as it was on my birthday. I only have five more pounds until I reach the tippy-top of the normal range for my height (5'4"). My goal is still 120 lbs. Don't know when I'm going to hit that goal. I'm not sure when I should make my deadline for. I guess I'll figure it out as I go along. Anyway, going out on a job search today... hope to find some leads! Could definitely use the money. I need to pay some bills and junk.

Today's intake has been fruitylicious so far:
Breakfast:
Watermelon with (my favorite) .5 cup blueberries

Snack:
Banana w/ 1 tsp peanut butter

Lunch:
Bowl of fruit

I told you I wasn't going to have peanut butter again, but I only had 1 tsp, and it looked so good. My meds made my stomach feel ill, so I had to have something. I forgot to have them earlier. GRRR... keep having to put off my dietitian appointment because of various things. Now it has to be sometime next week. The good thing is that when I see her, I'll be at a lower weight. Yay! It'll be (so far... month's not quite over yet!) 21 lbs. lost in 3 months. Let's see... it was 10 lbs. lost the first month, 6 lbs lost the second month, and 5 lbs lost this month. Getting smaller and smaller unfortunately. Guess I must work harder. I was all gung-ho the first month, maybe that's it. I was doing different kinds of exercises. Maybe I'll go back to that. Or maybe just change things up. Who knows. HELP!

WillLose60

Why no more peanut butter? It's a good healthy snack. I mean, you shoudln't eat a 1/2 a jar of it, but a tablespoon or so is a good thing. ;)

Hey! Don't give up- your still losing, so your still doing something right :) Just stay positive; sounds like such cliche advice, I know, but we all have these days and moments where nothing seems to work, and everything seems to suck, lol. Keep on truckin. Your doin great!

Jess393,

Thank you! Everything seems to be turning out okay for the moment!

Weight is 149.0 today! I'm excited! I guess I have to update my ticker (finally!) I didn't want to update my ticker until I'd lost at least a couple of pounds. It seems like I will be reaching my goal of being 148.5 lbs. by sometime next week, when I go to see my dietitian. She will be impressed, I hope! This also means that I only have 4 lbs. to go until I reach a "normal" weight for my height (5'4"). So I've lost 6 lbs. so far this month, which I guess is okay...

Exercised only about 30 minutes today (not counting running ragged with the nieces). Will get a lot more exercise tomorrow hopefully. I think I'm taking my nephew for a half hour walk, so there's that, and then I don't know what else, so we'll see.. but the day is packed I think... Tomorrow's Friday, right? :)

WillLose60

WillLose, you are doing fantastic with your weight loss. Always stay focused and positive and you are sure to reach your goal.

Any amount of exercise is better than none, have a lovely day tomorrow or today it maybe for you, I get confused with times on here.

My first goal is around 150lbs (top of my range for my height) 5' 4'', then I would like to take it further, see how it goes. Best of luck to us both.

Thanks CrazyMaizy! You are doing a great job too! I'm 5'4" too! I thought 145 was the top of the range for that height? If it's 150 lbs. then yay! I'm just a smidge under normal! Woohoo!

148.5 lbs. today and I joined a 4th of July Challenge on another site where my goals are to lose 8 lbs. and exercise 6 days a week by 4 th of July! I was 149.0 lbs. when I joined, so that'll take me to 141 lbs. Not much, but getting there! I really think that exercising with my new Wii game will help, if I keep with it. Not sure if I can keep up with the 30-day challenge though, because I help babysit about 4 days a week. That's exercise in and of itself! An 8-month old nephew, almost 4 year old niece, and 1.5 year old niece! That's a lot of running around! So proud of them too:) My little nephew just learned to "commando-crawl", so he's mobile as well :) My gosh, some crazy little kids :willy_nilly: , but I love them soooooo much!

WillLose60

okay, well I did get in 20 mins bowling and half an hour aerobics today, but after finding out how little that actually burns, that doesn't seem enough. Here's what I ate today:

Breakfast:
1 cup Multi-grain Cheerios and 1/2 cup Lite Silk Soymilk

Snack:
Peach

Lunch:
Lean Cuisine (forget what it was called, but it was about 250 cals)

Dinner:
Morning Star veggie burger w/ 2 slices double fiber bread
2 little sweet potato patties

Well that's what I had today. I don't normally have lean cuisines, but my mom bought a lot of them because they were on sale.

WillLose60

Saw on "I Want To Save Your Life" that peanut butter is bad for you. No more peanut butter for me. Had a ham and cheese sandwich today that put me over in calories almost. Gotta have a very low-cal dinner! I'm tracking everything on sparkpeople.com. Wow, dinner will take me WAY over today. That really upsets me :( :banghead: I'll probably gain weight and everything. I hate this.

Ok, wait. You're going to take one tiny bit of information from a TV show and use it to discount reams of other information that says peanut butter is a healthy snack?

Really? Seriously?

Why?

I'm not just basing it off of one tv show. I'm basing off of several places that I've heard the same thing (websites). I haven't seen any other information that says any other way...

WillLose60

I haven't seen any other information that says any other way...
Then you're not looking. :)

These are all REPUTABLE resources (not just random sites on the web) that talk about the benefits of eating PB as a snack.

5 foods that should have a place in your diet - CNN.com

At least five major studies confirm that eating peanuts can lower risk for coronary heart disease. So it's no leap to think that peanut butter confers the same benefits. "Suffice it to say that eating peanut butter or peanuts has been associated with lower total cholesterol, lower ldl or 'bad' cholesterol, and lower triglycerides, all of which are associated with lower cardiovascular disease risk," says Richard Mattes, Ph.D., R.D., a professor of nutrition at Purdue University.

Even better, these health benefits seem to occur without also promoting weight gain. One reason could be that peanut butter is a stick-to-the-ribs kind of food. When Mattes offered a group of volunteers seven different snack foods (including peanut butter, rice cakes, pickles, and almonds), study participants reported that peanut butter or peanuts were much more filling snacks than rice cakes or pickles and tamed hunger for much longer. Sure, peanut butter is high in fat and calories, but if a small amount can quell hunger, that might explain why dieters seem more satisfied with weight-loss plans that include the spread.

But dieting or not, Mattes says a tablespoon or two of peanut butter is all it takes to net a world of benefits for both the heart and waistline. And don't obsess about peanut butter being a source of trans fats. A study by the U.S. Department of Agriculture finds no detectable trans fats in a standard 2 tablespoon serving. Peanut Butter Packs a Healthy Punch

Eating two spoonfuls of peanut butter straight from the jar may seem like a guilty pleasure, but new research shows it could be a healthy habit.

Researchers from Pennsylvania State University found that men, women, and children who ate a daily dose of peanuts or peanut butter were better able to meet the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for vitamins and nutrients than those who steered clear.

A single serving of peanut butter is equal to two tablespoons. One ounce of nuts equals one serving.

Including peanuts and peanut butter daily in a calorie-balanced diet can help meet nutrient goals set by the U.S. government, nutritionist and study researcher Penny Kris-Etherton, PhD, RD, says in a news release. The study was funded in part by The Peanut Institute. The findings are published in the December issue of the Journal of American College of Nutrition.

Specifically, the diets of peanut and peanut butter eaters were higher in vitamins A and E, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, and fiber. Nuts are also loaded with monounsaturated fats, which have been linked to lower cholesterol.

In recent years peanut butter and nuts have been shown to be part of a healthy diet. A Harvard study in 2002 showed that women who regularly ate peanut butter and nuts had a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes. And the more they ate, the lower their risk was. And in July 2003 the FDA approved a qualified health claim for almonds, hazelnuts, pecans, pistachios, walnuts, and peanuts for use in advertising and package labels.

Healthy Eating: Why You Should Eat More Peanut Butter - Prevention.com

It helps you lose weight
Calling peanut butter a diet food, with 180 to 210 calories per serving, may seem counter-intuitive. But it has the enviable combination of fiber (2 g per serving) and protein (8 g per serving) that fills you up and keeps you feeling full longer, so you eat less overall. Plus, there's nothing more indulgent than licking peanut butter off a spoon--and indulgence (in moderation) helps dieters fight cravings and stay on track.

It's packed with nutrition
A serving of peanut butter has 3 mg of the powerful antioxidant vitamin E, 49 mg of bone-building magnesium, 208 mg of muscle-friendly potassium, and 0.17 mg of immunity-boosting vitamin B6. Research shows that eating peanuts can decrease your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic health conditions. One study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that consuming 1 ounce of nuts or peanut butter (about 2 tablespoons) at least 5 days a week can lower the risk of developing diabetes by almost 30%.

It's got the good fat
Peanut butter is chock-full of heart-healthy monounsaturated fat. A recent study found that insulin-resistant adults who ate a diet high in monos had less belly fat than people who ate more carbohydrates or saturated fat. PS: If you're buying reduced-fat peanut butter because you think it's better for your waistline, save your money. The calories are the same (or even a little higher) thanks to the extra ingredients that are added to make up for the missing fat (including more sugar).

Look, I don't have a problem if someone doesn't want to eat PB. It's certainly no skin off my back. But one of my biggest pet peeves is when someone says "I read somewhere that X is bad" and doesn't actually have any sources or any research to back it up .. and then makes a decision based on that. Certainly read both sides of the story. Check the SOURCES you're using - I make sure that anything I use as proof is from a reputable source - WebMD, a reputable medical journal, a reputable news site that gives sources for their data. And then I make my decision. I don't let random stuff published on the internet drive my diet or my health choices. Anyone can publish anything on the internet - even me! :) Don't believe what you read until after you've THOROUGHLY researched it yourself.

ok. I still don't want peanut butter. For some reason food has been grossing me out lately. I feel as though it's contaminated. I start to eat something and then something goes off in my mind "there might be *blah blah something gross* in this food, and I can't eat it anymore. I don't know why I'm doing this. My fridge is full of things I've made and not eaten, or started to eat and didn't finish. I don't think I'll ever be able to finish them. Just the thought of those foods grosses me out.

I exercised for over an hour and a half today. Yay! That was 40 mins Wii Sports bowling, 20 mins areobics, and half an hour walking like a crazy woman through that obstacle course that I like to call a supermarket. It was nuts there, and I don't know why... is there some holiday coming up that I am not remembering? So many people, so much anxiety :chillpill:

Measurements!

Hello!

Weighed in at 148.0 today, so at least I lost half a pound after all that work yesterday! Already did some today too, before my parents woke up. Don't want to tally it up until the end of the day though, so I'll wait to tell you everything.

Just wanted to tell you what I've lost, measurement-wise! I was on another site yesterday and realized I hadn't done my measurements since 03/29/09, so I decided it was time. Here's what I've lost... beware, I'm oddly shaped apparently:

2 inches off my waist
.5 inches off my hips
.5 inches off my neck

Weird, huh? I've lost... about 10 lbs. during that time. You'd have thought I'd have lost more. Just goes to show that I need more strength training! And a site that measures more than just waist, hips, and neck! Will look around! Or just do it here, though I'm rather embarrassed about my measurements, flab and all.

Oh, and I've decided to stick a pedometer in my pocket today (it's one of those pocket pedometers obviously). I have a clip-on pedometer as well... I'm not sure which one is more accurate... I'll have to check and see!
