When Your Fat Jeans Become Your Skinny Jeans

Hey Laura :)
5:30 and already at the gym! You're awesome! I thought getting up at 6am was motivated lol.
Best of luck with the end of grad school, man it must be a challenge to stay on track when you're so busy! Well done!

Wednesday:
Breakfast ?Coffee with skim milk
Lunch ?Steak kabob, little bit each of rice pilaf and mac & cheese, and two cookies (one peanut butter, one chocolate chip)
Snacks 1 mini Reese's and 1 piece of chocolate candy; Grande caramel macciato; More coffee with skim milk (stayed in the office til 10pm for school)
Dinner ? Ham (60 cal), egg and cheese sandwich, plus 1/2 cup cottage cheese. Sugar free mousse for dessert.
Snacks ?

I've begun to update once in the morning with my "template" and then adding as I go along during the day, since I can use my phone to easily add stuff in. I'm getting busy at work, and I think it's good to refrain from checking this site on my computer there. It's too easy to get sucked into too much reading!

I say checking WLF at work is better than Facebooking and Youtubing, which is what everyone else seems to do.

Agreed! Although my company blocks Facebook (and g-mail) and I would never watch YouTube in the high-traffic area I sit in... Sometimes I just want to listen to a song, so I put it on YouTube and then switch to a new window quickly so no one sees! And even then I feel guilty! Especially because I just switched to a small company, and I picture the IT guys down the hall monitoring me. It was different at my last job where that stuff would have been done by some faceless person overseas.

Lisa - Aww, you missed me :) I was telling boyfriend last night about how we motivate each other during our running slumps! I started out again slow, too, hopefully I'll work my way up soon!

Jess - It IS hard to stay focused on school and work and eating and running, etc etc... But there are so many people who do it all with kids, too, so I am thankful that I am finishing up one big thing before I have that extra level of responsibility!

Emerald - Thanks!! I clearly put absolutely no energy into coming up with a username, so at least my diary name was good, haha.

Well today was a good day! Work was just the right amount of busy... Still a little time to chat, and went on a coffee run with a ton of people, giving me the chance to talk to some people I don't normally talk to. But steady-busy otherwise. And then I get an e-mail from my Thursday night professor saying he released our take home final a day early. I made the executive decision to skip my study night and just go for it... Therefore, one class is DONE! Woooooo!

Thursday:
Breakfast ?Coffee with skim milk, and sausage egg and cheese on an English muffin (It's breakfast sandwich Thursday! I forgot about that when I ate my breakfast sandwich for dinner last night, haha)
Lunch ?Buffalo chicken burrito bowl (no blue cheese) from Boloco.
Snacks 1 very large, rich piece of chocolate candy (from a fancy schmancy box someone left out) and 1 mint.
Dinner ? 2 packets of Easy Mac (460 cal) and a low fat fudgsicle
Snacks ?4 rolls of smarties and one ENTIRE bag of movie theater popcorn, ugh.

I forgot to tell you all about something I was very proud of recently! I bought stocking stuffers for my brothers, nephews, and parents, which of course included lots of candy. I had maybe 5 different bags of candy in total, from Reese's (my weakness) and cherry cordial kisses and peppermint patties.... and I put every SINGLE piece into someone's bag! I did not even take ONE for myself! I was very surprised. I almost tore into a bag of nuts I had bought one day when I was watching class from home and was starving, but I stopped myself after realizing one bag was three servings and I was probably going to have no problem eating it all. That made me proud!

Nice work not giving in to the candies! I love Reece everything way too much too! 230 calorie's for one packet of easy mac? I'm going to have to find that because I love mac and cheese and the kraft dinner my hubby makes is 1200 calories for the box and I could easily eat a box but if I didn't have the option of the box I think I would enjoy a small taste. Sometimes I just have a couple bites of his - I usually want more right after and he doesn't let me.
Oh congrats on finishing a class - your so close to being 100% done! What are you going to do to celebrate? You should treat yourself to something nice - you deserve a day of pampering!
Have a great weekend!!

Awesome job not giving in to temptation - now THAT'S iron willpower!

I would have totally caved on the Reeses... :piggy:

Friday:
Breakfast – Bagel with a very small amount of cream cheese, and coffee with skim milk
Snacks – ½ cup skim milk and ½ cup all bran cereal
Lunch – 8 oz of Kale soup (80 cal) and some mozzarella & tomatoes (180 cal) plus a chocolate mousse (60 cal) and two pieces of chocolate candy for dessert
Snacks – ½ cup cottage cheese and a low fat fudgsicle (60 cal)
Dinner – A LARGE chicken parm sub (it was so not worth it!)

Lisa, you should definitely find the individual packets! Two was more than enough for me. I used to eat it all the time in college. Then my brother made mac & cheese when we were all together for Christmas a while back, and he put a bunch of “stuff” in there (veggies, hot dogs, who knows). Well, it made me so sick (one of two times in my life I can remember throwing up because of a food product), and I couldn’t look at macaroni & cheese for years! But now I’m back on the wagon (just no extras added in!)

Tig, I think the fact that there are multiple people in my office with Reese’s in their Christmas candy dishes helped me avoid that one! I’d had the taste recently, and before Halloween definitely had more than my fair share out of my office neighbor’s dish! Thankfully she only has hard candies in there now or I’d be in trouble.

I totally regret my popcorn choice on Thursday! I always eat an entire bag if I’m by myself, but usually I get the 94% fat free, or whatever healthy option is there. But I had bought a box of the buttery goodness to put into my family’s stockings, and there were two bags leftover. J had the second bag last night (after I promised I’d eat “some” ie two small handfuls) so now it’s back to the healthier stuff. I was also in bed for the popcorn…. and the mac and cheese for that matter. I live in an apartment complex, and the dog that’s just down the hall was barking up a storm when I got home. It’s a black lab, so big dog = big bark, and I know for experience that it can bark for hours without stopping. All I wanted to do with my night was watch the Biggest Loser finale on my computer, so I headed as far back into my apartment as I could go, which was the bedroom. I even shut the bedroom door, and we NEVER shut that door (J wasn’t home, I actually texted him to tell him it was shut because I knew it would weird him out when he got home.) Then I could watch the finale in peace! And the dog didn’t stop barking until after 10pm, and had been barking since at least 7:30.

I recently tried out Skinny Cow Ice Cream sandwiches. Cookies & Cream, to be exact. I was disappointed, didn't think they had enough flavor for me. My next thought was to try these Breyer's Triple Chocolate Chip bars. Looked up the nutritional values. 130 calories and 6 grams of fat. Compared it to Skinny Cow. 150 calories and 2 grams of fat. Was thinking oh, I don't want those extra grams of fat, I'll stick with the Skinny Cow products. And just for kicks I checked out Ben & Jerry's website to see what I USED to eat. My favorite, New York Super Fudge Chunk, is 300 calories and 20 grams of fat... per serving. I don't think I EVER ate less than 2 servings at a time, and have definitely eaten 4 on many, no, most occasions. That translates to 1,200 calories and 80 grams of fat. Eighty. E I G H T Y. And I was about to be disappointed I was going to have 6? I would have to eat 13 Breyer's bars to have as much fat as a pint of Ben & Jerry's. Or FORTY Skinny Cow's. Wow. What an eye opener. I am NOT going to feel bad about eating my 6 grams!

[FYI BikiniBound, I am giving you partial blame for the fact that I am sitting here at work researching nutritional facts on ice cream products, haha. My boss definitely just walked over while I was on Ben & Jerry's website.]
Hi There Laura!! Omg! This really put it into perspective when you compared 40 skinny cow's to a pint of Ben & Jerry's! That's INSANE!!!

Wow wish we had skinny cow over here. I just go without ice cream, and have low fat yoghurt. I tried making ice cream with it but its never the same.

As for popcorn, man everytime i eat that i end up with corn kernels wrapped around my teeth causing me pain. Then i spend the next 2-3 days removing them with floss or toothpicks etc. I do like that they have SFA calories, but boy its annoying trying to clean the teeth afterwards! :)

Saturday:
Breakfast – ½ cup light soy milk (30 cal) + ½ cup grape nuts (200 cal), and a medium coffee with milk (35 cal)
Lunch – None (ugh)
Dinner – Pigged out! Side salad with way too much balsamic vinaigrette; a few pieces of bread with butter; 1 slice of bruschetta with cheese; maybe ¾ of a baked potato with butter and sour cream; baked haddock; apple pie martini

Hi Alta! I haven’t looked at Ben & Jerry’s the same way since doing that analysis! I think I have only really craved it maybe once since then, and it was way easy to stop myself once I thought of how good those skinny cows are and how many of those I could eat. Probably my most beneficial journal entry, by far!

Skinny Cows are such a great alternative! It’s sad you don’t have them around you. There aren’t too many flavors available, but that hasn’t bothered me much as I pretty much ate the same couple of ice cream flavors anyway. Ben & Jerry’s makes low fat yogurt alternatives, but they didn’t cut it for me. And forgive me for being acronym illiterate, but what does “SFA” mean?? I do agree that the aftermath of popcorn isn’t always the best! It’s bad when you have it at the movies or a ball game or something and can’t run to the bathroom and floss when you need to.

Dinner was bad…. I have GOT to get out of this one-meal-on-the-weekends habit. Leaves me starving at dinner. Boyfriend can do it, he’s never even hungry. My stomach was growling at 3:30, but then I got in the shower and by the time I got out it was a little late to be snacking, as I had at least gotten J to agree to an earlier dinner if he wasn’t going to eat lunch. I need to remember this feeling so I can remember to eat at like 2, instead of just drinking our usual coffee at that time.

One week til Christmas! I still have shopping to get done, most importantly for my tax department Secret Santa. We’ve got our holiday lunch on Monday, so I need to brave the stores tomorrow and find something. I don’t know her very well, and no one else does, either (she’s definitely the “outcast” of our little group) so I bought a gift card for a discount store near work because someone told me she likes to shop for deals. I’ve also seen her wearing silk scarves around, so I am going to attempt to pick out one of those for her. It’s not my area of expertise… but I will give it a shot!

I bought some cute heels online that arrived today! I ordered three pairs, one does not fit me, so I will be returning those. The other two I’m excited about though. I’m pretty much a “sensible flats” sort of girl, but with the new pants I’ve bought lately (three pairs) I am feeling like the urge to dress a little better for work. They’re really nothing special, but they are a big deal for me, and I am excited about wearing them! I may have to get a couple pairs of pants tailored to make them long enough, but I am willing to do that for the sake of nice shoes. I’ll post the pics here.

Oh Laura, I love love love the shoes :D. especially the grey. I was also a sensible shoe girl myself but recently i decided to hell with it... I am going for sexy pumps. Initially they hurt my feet alot...by 2 pm i was doing the 'too-sexy-for-my-own-good' dance. Had all my co-workers laughing at me. Now my shoes are pretty comfortable though. Glad you are getting into dressing better for work mood. It's a nice reward for all the weight loss :D and you would be getting plenty of compliments in those shoes :p

wooo new heels! I don't have many heels myself, im usually a flats person, but i think when i lost weight the first time i really enjoyed wearing them a bit. I must admit, i did feel a bit like a kid trying on mums shoes at first though :D

Sunday:
Breakfast – Large coffee with milk (50 cal) and an everything bagel with two pats of butter (420 cal)
Lunch – none (surprise surprise)
Snacks – 1 cup light soy milk (60 cal) + light chocolate syrup (45 cal); 2 pretzel rods (80 cal) + honey mustard (15 cal)
Dinner – 1.5 servings Chicken Marsala [frozen meal] (420 cal)
Dinner #2 - 1/2 ham sandwich with honey mustard (140 cal)
Total calories for the day: 1,230

Exercise – 27:36 on the treadmill, 2.43 miles. 5 minute warmup at 4.0, the rest at 5.6. I had fully intended to do much more, and my legs and lungs were cooperating, but my tummy... not so much. I had to run to the bathroom and subsequently got locked out of the gym, which ticked me off. For three years we had a keypad to enter the gym, and then as of sometime this month they switched it to a FOB system. For three years I was able to run to the bathroom with nothing in my hand, so that is what I did today, not realizing I needed my keys to get back in. They couldn't have put a sign up? Thankfully boyfriend was home, so I ran upstairs to get his keys. Otherwise I would have had to knock on some stranger's door (looking like a hot mess) to try and get them to come let me back in to get my keys and phone. Anyway, stopped after 2.43 miles because my tummy said I had to. Blah.

I love the gray ones! I actually was at the store today to return the pair I’m not keeping and saw someone trying to find her size in those. I mentioned that I bought mine online and she said she had no idea that you could shop online at that store, so hopefully she gets her size and can enjoy them, too! I wear comfy shoes into the office (flips flops in the summer, boots in the winter, flats in-between) so all of my dress shoes are in a box there. I’m guessing there will be at least a few days where people will catch me in cute heels in the morning and sensible flats in the afternoon, haha.

It’s funny you say that because my boyfriend actually warned me to be careful when all I was doing was rushing down the hall in them to check myself out in the mirror. He was afraid I was going to fall before even stepping outside, haha. There’s no way I will be wearing them outside for a while, that’s for sure, they are strictly for the office… I’d be in trouble trying to walk the wintery city streets in them!

Got to the mall nice and early this morning, which was awesome. Avoided crazy mall traffic. Nice, productive day before noon (and for me, on a weekend, that is rare). I returned some stuff, and bought two scarves for my Secret Santa. I must have stood in front of that display for 15 minutes trying to pick something out. I hope she likes them, I wasn’t sure of her style but I didn’t get anything overly crazy. Also bought myself my first “puffy coat” to keep me warm this winter, plus a new purse (because my usual purple purse clashes with the new coat). I know, I know, it’s Christmas season, I’m supposed to be buying for OTHER people! I need to be warm, though!

Goal for the day – stop watching The Sing Off online and S T U D Y! Final TOMORROW!
