Hello everyone! I just joined this site yesterday, and joined the 200 Plus Club. I'd just like to say that everyone in that club is awesome!

Anyways, I am 17 years old, and I weigh around 240 pounds. I'm sick of looking in the mirror, and hating what I see. Either that or thinking, "Wow... I have a nice face, if only I was skinnier... It would look so much better." I'm going to be starting my Senior year of high school, and I really want a great year. There are a lot of reasons for me wanting to lose weight... Such as, a lot of times I feel really uncomfortable doing simple things. I want to lose weight for my Senior pictures, so I can finally have a picture I'll be proud of. I want to lose weight so I will be able to look better in my uniform at work. I want to get together with this guy I like, but everytime I think about going on a date with him, and what I'd wear, I can't help but think I'll look hideous in everything.

REASONS TO LOSE WEIGHT:

-Senior Pictures
-Senior Prom
-Date
-Feel better, more confident
-Approval from parents
-For Myself!

I'm not telling anyone. If I told my mother she would just blow it off, and my dad wouldn't care. Hopefully if I loose weight, I will have somewhat of an approval from them. I'd like to weigh around 140 pounds. A nice goal for me would to be under 200. I plan on changing the way I eat, drastically. Mainly during the school year, I either eat a bagel, or nothing for breakfast. Lunch I don't eat anything, and for dinner, I eat something huge. For exercise, mostly I'll just be fast walking for 30 minutes on my treadmill. I hope to build up so I can start jogging on it. I also plan to do some small weight lifting. Mostly low weights, and a lot of reps. That was my plan I was following about a month ago. I was doing really well, but then my mother went into the hospital, and I sort of just stopped everything.

Anyways, for today, here's what I ate:

+Breakfast
-Cup of orange juice
-Yogurt (170 cal.)

+Lunch
-Lean Frozen Dinner. Turkey, with apples in sauce. (270 cal.)
-Small can of pineapples (70 cal.)

+Dinner
-Chicken Teryaki 12" Sub (740 cal.)

=1250 Calories all together today!

Lately I've been drinking orange juice in the morning, instead of having coffee, I find that orange juice really gives me a lot of nice energy. ^-^ I wore my new uniform at work today. I have another new reason to loose weight. So I can look better in it. I'm hoping maybe I can loose 10 pounds or so by the time school starts again. (August) It doesn't really matter how long it takes me to reach my ultimate goal. It'd be nice if it was off by next summer, I'm not really sure if that's reasonable though.

Anyways, I'll write more tommorrow.

Hi and Welcome, VA! :D You have great reasons for wanting to lose weight, but the best one if for yourself. Remember to drink water and KEEP MOVING!! You CAN get to your goal by next summer if you stick with it and keep going strong! Come here to refocus and get support :D

You're well on your way so keep on goin'! :D

I'm glad you decided to post here! You'll find lots of support. It may be hard not to tell your mom if she cooks meals. Make sure you eat breakfast and lunch!!!! And drink your water!! You can do this!

Thankyou everyone for your great support!

In response to sillygirl my mom doesn't really do much of anything around the house. She is also overweight. She's very much a yo-yo dieter. I thought I might suggest us both going on a diet, but she doesn't seem to want to really do anything at all... I either cook breakfast for us, my dad will cook dinner, or bring something home. I buy something to eat for myself at work, and if I want healthy stuff to eat at home, (like yogurt) I have to buy it myself.

I already drink water and stuff. All I drink is water anyways. I've never liked soda and stuff. I suppose I could drink more water though.

I'm wondering what a good late night snack is though. If I eat dinner around 10, or 8 or something, I stay up pretty late, and I get hungry around 1 or something. Fruit or something?

EDIT: So, I got hungry... I decided to eat 5 crackers with some mayo and tunafish on them. I was going to grab a bottle of water, but of course we're out, so I grabbed some orange juice.

Day 2

Day 2

Okay, so it's day two! I lied already. But it was good lie! I told my mom about my diet. I asked her if she wanted to join with me. She didn't seem very enthusastic, but she agreed nevertheless. I cooked breakfast for us this morning, and she kind of complained about it. Not enough food for her. Anyways, here's what we had:

+Breakfast

-Orange Juice
-1 cup of hash (470 cal. Sheesh...)
-3 Eggs for her, about 2 for me.
-Toast
-1 cup of fruit cocktail

I have no idea how much that is calorie wise... I tried to talk to her about exercising, but I don't know where that's going. On the other hand, I got on my treadmill for 30 minutes. I think I walked 2,700 steps? Thats like a mile and some right? It's been about a month since I've been on the treadmill, and it really shows. 10 minutes into the exercise I was like, "Is it over yet?" and when I looked down at the timer, I saw I had about another 20 minutes left. Lol -_-;

I'm wondering, is eating Subway a lot bad for you? I know it's better than eating at a lot of other fastfood places, but it seems like I have Subway every night for dinner. (Always the 12".)

I think I'm going to start my own challenge. I'm going to try and reach 50,000 Steps. I know you're supposed to take like... 10,000 steps a day or something, right? But I'm pretty sure I don't do that. xD

Great Job getting started!!!!! Eggs are like around 75 calories each depending on how big the size is. You might try adding one egg white for every whole egg (less calories lots of volume). Looks like the hash is pretty high in calories, though. Is there something you could substitute for it instead? The toast should just be whatever it says on the bag, usually around 80 calories per slice, unless you get lite bread. Toast isn't too bad depending on what you put on it? If you slather it with butter or margerine, it's not so good.
Subway isn't so bad as long as you make good menu choices. What are you ordering?

In terms of late night snacks I've been trying my luck with slightly sweetened tea, big glasses of water, smoothies, pieces of fruit, raw veg. Maybe there is some kind of fruit you really like? I really love mango and melon myself so when I feel the need to treat myself I'll get some of that. Also instead of hash in the morning (sorry I'm unsure what this is?) could you maybe try porridge or a couple of slices of brown bread or some cereal? These tend to keep you full for longer I find!

Good luck in the coming weeks!:)

Subway Nutrition info website has everything you ever wanted to know about the nutritional value in their menu choices... It's really helpful, I've found, to familiarize yourself with it, to make good choices...

You also might want to get an online calorie counter, so that you can keep track of your calorie intake... to see what you are eating..(sometimes, it's more than we think - least for me :(

Orange juice is good for you, but if you drink a lot of it, it can waste some calories.. you might want to cut it with some club soda or seltzer water -to give youa bubbly refreshing drink.. and of course lots and lots of water...

Good luck -- you are gonna do great, you've got a good attitude and a reasonable goal... :) we'll give you plenty of encouragement and support..

Still Day Two

Manaloa- I put less butter and jelly on my toast. Also, I put a little bit of Steak sauce on my eggs. That was like 10 cal. I usually smother it with ketchup which I'm going to try to stop. I order the chicken teryaki, which I looked on the Subway site, (Thanks maleficent.) It's like 370 cal. I think.

Crunchie- Thanks for the tips on the late night snacks. My dad doesn't really buy a lot of healthy stuff, so I'll have to buy some fruit or something. The tea sounds like a really good idea though, I love tea.

maleficent- Thanks for saying I'll do great, and thanks for the support! I visited the Subway menu, it helped. I think I'm gonna check what goes into my mom's sandwich so she'll know too. Yeah, I do think I need to watch calories. I never really noticed that before until I counted them the other day. I was amazed!

Okay, It's still day Two. I had another Chicken Teryaki for Dinner. *sigheth* I thought I'd post what I did for weights and stuff. This is all with 5 lb weights.

10 Butterflies
10 Bicep Curls
20 Knee pushups
50 Situps
25 ..I don't know what to call them, but I saw them in an exercise book.
10 Squats
20 ...Again I forget what they're called...
10 Leg raises

I think you're doing a great job!!! The more knowledge you get about different kinds of foods the easier it'll be to make good choices. I think your walking goal is great & very realistic!!! :D Can I join you?

Oj

I like OJ, too, and here is a trick I have been using to help me with my calories counting where drinks are concerned. I have a particular glass I use for all of my drinks except water. I measured, and I know right where 8 oz. of fluid hits on this glass. When I have a non-water beverage, I use this glass, check the calorie count on the bottle, and I know how many calories I consumed. Actually, now that I have been counting a little while, I don't have to look. I have my drinks memorized. :)

you're doing a good job, once you start paying attention to everything you eat in a day, it's gets easier to make better choices.

Way to go with the weights, I hear doing cardio and weight training helps the weight to melt off faster.

Day 3

Again everyone thankyou for the tips and the encouragement!

Okay today was an okay day... I talked to the guy I liked! *grins* And I already felt more confident knowing I was eating better, and getting on my treadmill. But when I came into work, it kinda sucked. My back was all icky and sweaty, because I have to take the bus to work. I'm always worried about the sweat leaking onto my uniform which looks Ew. Another reason I wanna loose weight. ^-^ I'm proud of myself though! I had to count all these candybars at work for inventory, and I was craving one so bad... But I told myself "No!" and just kept counting it. And I didn't even get one for lunch! Speaking of what I had to eat today:

+Breakfast 10:30 Am

-2 Eggs w/turkey, slice of cheese
-1 piece of toast w/butter and cinammin
-1 cup of hash (470)

+Lunch 6:00 Pm

-Meatloaf & Mashed Potatoe Lean Cusine (370 cal. ?)
-Can of Madarin Oranges (70 cal.)

I think I drank about 4 glasses of water today. Only 1/2 the good amount. I did 30 minutes on the treadmill again. A downside though.. My back started hurting at work. I'm assuming it's the weights from last night or something. Anyways, back to my goal. I did 3,195 steps today! Soo...

-2,700
-3,195
=
44,105 Left to go!

Manaola I'd love for you to join my weight walking goal! Okay so today I didn't really count calories today, but it doesn't seem like I ate that much. For my 50,000 steps challenge, I'm only counting steps I've done on my treadmill since if I counted every step I took during the day, I wouldn't remember, and I don't have one of those step counter things.

Day 4

Day 4

I didn't really do very well today... Well, actually I'm not sure. Here's what I ate anyways:

+Breakfast/Lunch 10:30 Am

-A chunk of roastbeef (About 396 Cal.)
-Onions w/Gravy (77 cal.)
-Potatoes (57 cal.)
-Spinach ( 50 Cal.)

+Lunch/Dinner

-A chunk of roastbeef (About 396 Cal.)
-Onions w/Gravy (77 cal.)
-Potatoes (57 cal.)
-Spinach (50 cal.)
-Applesauce (30 cal.)

=1210 (I added another 20 cal. for the steak sauce I used on the beef.)

It wasn't really a lot of food, but the Roastbeef is probably really fattening... Specially since I ate it twice. -_-; I didn't get on my treadmill today either. *sighs* I watched Eight Below and Syriana instead. Eight Below was kind of slow, and Syriana was pretty good. I figure I can just do my situps, and my weights tonight. Still I should have gotten on that treadmill. Oh well... Can't beat myself up over it. I think I'm on my 6th glass of water. Just two more till I get 8! I'm gonna weigh myself at the grocery store since they have a scale, and I don't. I'm not even totally sure if I weigh 240.

I'm glad I'm not going to any BBQ's this weekend. I don't know if I'd be able to contain myself, or fight off the temptation. *swoons* Mmm... BBQ....

EDIT: Here's what I did for exercises:

-50 Situps
-2 sets of 15 Arm Raises
-10 Overhead
-20 Knee pushups
-10 Butterflies
-2 sets of 10 Bicep Curls

Hi VonArtiste,
It sounds like you're well on your way towards your goals :) Just don't let your mom's indifference bog you down too much. If she isn't ready, you can't pull her along!

Any 1200 calorie day is a good day in my book - so keep up the good work :)
Based on your weight, you should be able to eat 1800 a day and be able to lose 2 pounds a week.

That's why it really helps to know what calories you're putting in, so you know what kind of deficit you need to lose weight at a healthy level.

Day 5

Day 5

Let's see today wasn't too bad. I saw Superman with my friend. The action scenes, and the graphics were awesome, but there was too much lovey-dovey stuff. Sheesh. Anyways, today I ate:

+Breakfast/Lunch

-3 Deviled Eggs
-2 Tunafish sandwichs

+Lunch/Dinner

-2 Ham and Cheese Hotpockets
-Can of madarin oranges

Man, it's late and I'm starving. I didn't exercise today... I should go do my weights and situps.

Hey Von,

Great job on your quest to loss weight. I don't think you will be anything but successful with such a great attitude !!

I wanna help you with something here:

What appears to be a strong menu for weight loss can backfire on you sometimes. Let me show you how to break this down.

1. Your stomach is the size of a fist. Now hold out both fist and touch them together side by side. For the average person this is roughly about the same size as a 6" Subway sub. You expanded your stomach 4X it's normal size tackling that footlong !!

The danger with this much expansion is our mind won't send the "full" signal if we continually expand the stomach itself repeatedly, it expect us to to overfill it everytime and will allow us to until we 're-train' our belly not expand so much. A 12" sub is excess for anyone and trust me Von, I'm sure I abused footlongs more than anyone on here. If you expect results from your efforts, expect smaller portions to be part of your plan.

2. Aaahhhh, the good ol' Teryaki sub by Subway - didn't Jared lose like 8.6 mega-tons eating this stuff ?? Well so the story goes...

In this case you consumed just about 90% of your carb allowance for the day based on a 1250 calorie day. Ideally spreading out your carbs over the course of the day is the healthy way to do it and actually your higher carb intake should be done at breakfast so you give the body a chance during its most active times to process (burn) your carbs so you don't allow them to turn to sugar and we know what sugar does to the dieter :(

If you think I'm being a meanie, well I'm not. I just wanted to give you a pointer because something like this is where people think they're eating the right stuff (and in this case the Teryaki sub is good choice without adding a bunch of nastys to it and its a 6") and get discouraged because they're not getting the results. Finishing off your diet day with a hi-carb intake will certainly hinder the best laid plans of a diet and possibly make someone give up.

If I stepped out of bounds here, I apologize but really I'm challenging you to understand the cause and affect of some decisions and not telling you made a bad choice.

Luckily you seem to be fairly tuned in to the exercise phase of your lifestyle change and you got that youth thing workin' for ya too so you probably didn't pay a price like us old folks would.

Keep up the good fight !!

Day 6

~Day 6~

I feel kinda bad.... I didn't end up doing my exercises last night. *shakes head* Oh well... It was only one day. After I write this, I'm going to get on my treadmill. I took a little walk today, only about 15 minutes though. I went to get something from the little conveince store in the neighborhood. On the way back though, I was carrying a jug of water. ^-^.

Trucker- I knew those 12" were bad for me... I just didn't want to admit it since they were low in calories, I tried to justify it. You definately weren't out of line, I'm really happy you pointed that out to me. Now I get why I could eat a 12" and still be hungry... Even if I did eat it really slow. (Which is really hard because they're so good!) I didn't know carbs turned to sugar... You're really helpful!

Okay, I'll post more in a bit.

EDIT: Okay, I just did 30 minutes on the treadmill. 1.4 miles 3,100 steps.

It was weird though. A couple times last month when I got on my treadmill, towards the end of the workout, I got this pain that started in the back of my leg and shot down towards my foot. Then my foot stiffened, and I got this charlie horse. Usually I only had 5 or 7 minutes left on the workout, so I thought I'd just finish it. If I stopped I felt guilty. But I just got the pain again, and I'm wondering what from? It can't be not warming up properly because the program has a warm-up, and cool down period. Maybe not proper stretching? Do I need to stretch before I get on? I thought maybe my right leg was weaker than my left one, and my leg was just adjusting to the exercising, but I'm not sure. Specially since today I only did a 3.0 speed, when I used to do 3.5.

Anyways, does anyone have any ideas?

I still haven't eaten anything. Sheesh. I really wanna go cook myself a huge breakfast...

Oh! Speaking of food, I'm proud of myself! Last night my friend suggested we get Wendy's (That's definately a weak point for me. I always used to get the triple.) but I told her we didn't have time before the movie, and therefore couldn't go! Hahaha! Sneaky! And while we were walking past the food area in the theater, I suggested we get food, but then I quickly took it back. They even had a sign for this *NEW* cinammin bagel! Yummers! But I resisted.

I still have to do my weights, which I'll probably do later on tonight.

+Breakfast/Lunch 3:00 Pm

-3 Pieces of bacon
-2 Eggs
-1 slice of toast w/butter & Jelly
-1 sausage patty

That was probably a bit on the bad side, but man... It was good! And I had ketchup on it! But I didn't smoother it on like I used to do. I still have a problem though... I'm not really eating enough. I Guess it's because I get up so late during the day... I'm only getting like 2 or 3 meals in. I know it's better to eat 5 to 6 small meals a day. But even though I stay up until like 3 in the morning, I don't want to eat that late. Hmm... What should I do? I mean... Is it even really that big of a problem? Of couse it's all going to change when I go back to school... But for now, I'm concerned.
