Valapalooza's Diary

you'll do fine

good luck at the game tonight, you're right theres not much healthy stuff there. You'll do fine though, you've been kicking butt and theres no sense in slacking off now. Especially if you want to try to beat me in the challenge :p

I wonder if the carmen electra striptease routine would do me some good? HAHA! Could you see some big ugly 250 pound tatted up, shaved bald guy doing that? I think that might be a felony in this state.

Back on track this Wednesday morning after a bit of a downfall yesterday. There were the 2 crabcakes... the french fries... the "motown mixer" (think rum runner)... the 190 octane frozen drink... the 2 pieces of buffalo popcorn chicken that i stole from my sister... the gin and tonic. My total calories for the day including my earlier meals were 2,376. That is clearly a lot more calories than I would have liked to eat, but since I burned 3,299 calories yesterday per my fitday account- I know that I didn't do any irreversible damage. In fact, I still had a 923 calorie deficit--- just too many carbs and a bit of a headache today.

That's the craziest part about all of this I think... I have finally learned how to not be obsessive when it comes to weight loss. I'm hoping that will help me out and make me less likely to quit out of frustration.

Well, it sounds like you had a good time anyway :D

You didn't do too bad, especially if that calorie count/burn is correct. Nearly a grand deficit is no joke, and you still got to eat and drink like that? Heck I'm jealous!

Well in retrospect, I didn't really eat all that much food. We got a small order of fries that we split- the crabcakes were really small(appetizer side) and 2 piece of popcorn chicken are about the size of half a chicken tender. I think the only reason I don't feel like garbage today is that I managed to drink 2 bottles of water in between the other beverages. (And clearly the beverages were my downfall...)

Valapalooza, if that's your idea of a bad day you're goals are right around the corner!!

To come up with a 900+ calorie deficit is a GREAT thing!

Tonight is my Wine Club, There's always 3 casseroles (the cheesy kind) and 3 salads (laden with dressing) and well, wine.

I won't starve today to reserve my calories, I just can't do that anymore, so I hope I have your resolve :)

And I just noticed, you and I had the exact same starting weight! You're chasing me :D

Hey Val, great going! If you are exercising loads, it isn't sensible to cut your calories back too much, otherwise you will feel drained. I'd say that was a good day. If you have that kind of calorie deficit every day, you would lose nearly 2lbs a week!! Keep up the hard work ;)

What did you do to burn 3200 calories in one day? That's fantastic, I want to do that! Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but I don't even think my Grand Canyon hikes burn that much, and it's a 10 mile trail at a 10% grade!

Good job for not obsessing, Val, that's something I still fight with sometimes. I still enjoy my life, but the pursuit for health is either "on" or "off" for me, but I don't practice moderation as much as I would like to (or as often as I preach it!).

Take care!

C: Fitday is great- I like how you can use it to analyze why you're eating- what meal it is- what reason - your mood when you decided to eat... It really helps you realize where your downfalls are

yep. it's very hard to have an ABSOLUTELY perfect day on Fitday though. my nutrients are never at 100%. grrr.

Val, VERY nice work on the deficit! Unless playing Xbox burns LOTS more calories than I think it does, I have a LONG way to go to catch up with you :p

And as Mrs. Bear says, you have to be careful not to cut your calories TOOOO much when you are exercising heavily. Pay attention to your body. If you are tired, ache-y, etc., either eat a LITTLE more or back off a bit on the exercise. Just remember: moderation in all things :)

Oh don't you worry- I couldn't cut my calories drastically if I tried. I can't ignore when I'm hungry... We have our firm conference at work today- and that usually involves food options that are not so great. I remember last year thinking that most of the food was gross- so I'm worried that I won't find anything to eat. I'll keep my hopes up! Thanks for the support guys!

I hope I'm not too late, but I always take snacks like almonds and apples and yogurt to work and then if I know they're having a lunch event I eat my healthy stuff first. If I want to try a little of something they've brought (usually it's unhealthy) I have a tiny taste, but I don't NEED to eat. I survive much better that way. Good luck!

Hi Val

I know about those darned confrences or meetings with really poor food choices. I use to teach at this horrible horrible school and everytime we had a meeting or parents in to the school there were crappy high calorie cookies or donuts as snack choices. I tried asking the secretary who would arrange for the foods to include a fruit or veggie platter . She was receptive and said yes that is a good idea but never did it. It was so frustrating when your sitting there and these crap foods are infront of you and your hungry but you have no choices.

You know sometimes you can say no and fight the desire to eat the bad foods but other days (like pms weeks) it's almost impossible to avoid those sweet snacks. I guess knowing what to expect is helpful. You could (and I don't always do this) pack some carrots or celerie to snack on. I don't always do this because I don't like the questions people ask like "Oh are you watching your weight?"

Hope things go well for you.

So I did have a healthy lunch- which included an orange and carrots- so that was a bonus. But later in the day we had an ice cream break and I was just not able to step away from the Dove bar. Ugh- lol Dinner was steamed shrimp and veggies though, so I guess one Dove bar isn't going to ruin my day. I also did 4 miles on the bike last night- and my butt isn't even sore today!

Yeah, after that workout, the dove bar will not affect you :) Keep up the gREAT work and stya POSITIVE. have you had any WATER yet??? :D have a GREAT day

I wouldn't let the dove bar get you down, sounds like you did a greta job with the exercise! Also congrats on the healthier eating at your office. They are always hard. Keep up the great work!

Great going on the bike ride Val! I'm afraid I wimped out yesterday, but I did you proud today. We'll have to make these pacts a bit more often. Oh, and a Dove bar doesn't seem too bad to me, I've been sampling trifle ingredients this evening!! :D

sounds like you had a good day despite the dove bar. I wouldn't think of it much. just don't have another one tomorrow. ;) sides, you did 4 miles on the bike, that's worth one dove bar I'd think. :)

Thanks for stopping by everyone- I appreciate it. I've been feeling pretty sick that past couple of days (some nasty sinus drainage and the most painful cough ever)... so I've been doing pretty good with eating, but I can't do anything higher energy than walking for exercise. I took a 3.5 mile walk yesterday - which felt really nice other than the sunburn on my forehead. The scale has been really good to me lately too - I can not WAIT to update my ticker tomorrow. Now instead of saying I will never see 250 again, I get to say that I'll never see 245 again. I can't wait to be in the 230's! (Is that pathetic)

Well today I am heading to the Tastefest with my mother- Luckily the food is pretty expensive so I won't be eating much of it... and as an added bonus, we always walk around a lot at these kind of events. I promise to check in on everyone's diaries later- I've been slacking lately!!
