Valapalooza's Diary

3 days

3 days of the same weight isn't so long. Rememnre, if you are still eating right and exercising, you are probably STILL losing fat, even though the scale is not moving. Those fat cells are just full of water waiting to be squeezed out and surprise you with a loss! Drink lots of water, and get plenty of horizontal time. Stay on track and don't let the scale discourage you. That plateau is just giving your cells time to catch up with your fat loss! :D

Don't bother with what the scale says...just think of it as that deceiving and gossipy friend who doesn't always get the story right...
Rofl :D

Hey, Val ... finally read your diary, sorry it took me a few days  . You are doing great!! I didn't realise you were a cyclist as well. I know exactly what you mean about your butt!! Mine still isn't used to it, but then I haven't done it consistently enough. I think its more uncomfortable for us ladies than the men anyway. Not a nice place to have pins and needles  !!

Have you thought of doing a cycling ticker ... we could keep each other motivated with threats of butt kickings !!! :D

Hi, Val! I know what you mean about spur-of-the-moment invitations to lunch at the office. It happens to me alot too. I keep hoping that sooner or later everyone will get tired of eating with each other and quit asking each other to lunch. :) Until then, I guess we just have to do our best not to eat too badly.

I love salmon, too, but my family doesn't, so I don't get it too often. Enjoy! And keep up the good work! You're going great!

I know what you mean about going out to eat. How do you even know what is in that stuff? I took the day off and took my sister out to lunch for her birthday today. It was the first time I have gone to a restaurant since I started my diet....well, other than Arby's. I had what I thought was a really healthy choice. It was an Ahi Tuna Salad w/Soy Wasabi dressing. Basically a Broiled Pc of Tuna on Greens w/Water Chestnuts, Red Onion, Cucumber and Tomatoes. The tuna had black sesame seeds on it. When I got home I entered it all into the FitDay calculator that I wanted to try. First of all, I had no idea how many calories were in sesame seeds. Then there was the dressing....how the heck do I know what is in it? It is impossible to tell. I also had some weird martini--which is why I had the salad...I really wanted to have a drink. I could not begin to calculate what was in that thing as far as calories. What are we to do?

Anyway...enough about me...you are doing fabulous! Keep up the good work, Lance Armstrong!

valapaloza, you're doing great!! And the scale WILL show the difference. One lunch at the Chinese Restaraunt isn't going to change that (remember my 50 gram fat sandwich) ;)

You're certainly going to be more toned with that cyclying - I really want to get a bike too :)

Keep going girl!!

Val, you sound just like me. I can completely sympathize. Please keep up the exercise motivation, mine tends to come & go in spurts. Right now I'm in the "manic" phase. I've been exercising 6 days a week and get antsy if I don't, but I need to find a creative way to avoid the "lazy" phase if I feel it coming on. Any suggestions? The evening eating thing was tough for me for a long time. What time do you usually eat dinner? What time to you get off work? What time do you go to bed? I managed to get this (mostly) under control, but there are a bunch of factors that will go into my suggestion for you. Let me know, OK?

Good thing it's Monday!

So while I don't feel like I was a total failure this weekend, I do know that I made a few poor decisions. I was kind of down this weekend and found myself taking comfort in food more than once. That's why it's a good thing it's Monday! I can always convince myself to start fresh on Mondays even if I messed up on the weekend. On the plus side, I did continue to get exercise in this weekend. I've been doing the Carmen Electra striptease videos just to make things more fun, and I've also been doing some strength training videos. My muscles have been taking a beating, but the pain is good! I am SO happy that someone started the 6 week challenge. I need that kind of motivation and I like being involved in something from the start rather than jumping in midway.

Dinner is usually at 8:00 PM:eek: My bf doesn't get home until 7:45 or 8:00 every day except Tuesday and Thursday, so dinner is usually quite late.
My work schedule is somewhat flexible, although I usually leave the office around 5:00 or so, depending on when I came in.
I usually get to bed during the week by 11:00.

It's good to hear that you didn't over do the weekend binges ;) You are doing Great and the challenge will keep you on track:D have a GREAT day and drink your WATER:p

Congrats on having a good exercise weekend...so what if the eating wasn't perfect! You got up and moved...YAY for you!

Mondays are always a good fresh start, you have the right attitde. I bet you didn't do as bad as you think this weekend. At least you didn't eat sushi for BREAKFAST!!! ;)

Good luck with the challenge, I know you'll do fine. I didn't even know it existed until I read your diary. I'm trying to jump in on the tail end too, so thanks!

Things do tend to slip a bit on a weekend, but you seem to have stayed in control, kept the exercise up, and picking things back up on a Monday is the difference between continuing with a plan, and ditching the diet completely ... so WELL DONE!! :)

So... I haven't lost a whole lot of weight, but I know that I have been eating much better- With that being said, my bf and I have both noticed that my hair has looked exceptionally shiny and pretty the past couple days. I wonder if it is because I am getting more of the essential nutrients instead of just junk... whatever it is, I LOVE IT! :)

EDIT: Also, I have been inspired by some of you guys to dust off the old fitday account and try to keep track of what I'm putting inside of my body... Day one already has a mighty fine sized deficit. Woo hoo

As long as you are eating and feeling better, that is what is important. Don't let the number on that box get to you. ;) Congrats on the hair! :D

Hi Val--you've inspired me with your bike riding. My thinking is that it has to be cooler than walking since I can at least get a breeze going, so when I get back to the coast (hopefully Wed.), I'm hitting the road! How do you calculate your miles?

Rice isn't a deal breaker. The important thing is that you THOUGHT about what you were eating and made the best choices possible under the circumstances. That shows you are making LIFE CHANGES and not just "dieting," and that means you are going to reach your goal and stay there!

Hurray for you!

Hey Val, my dinnertime is late too. I eat a small meal (200-350 cal) at around 5pm so I keep that snacking under control at home. That makes other meals in the day smaller, but that's also a good thing. Are you doing the mini meals thing? (5-6 meals a day, instead of the 3 squares that make - me at least - round)? I eat far less & am in better control at home at night when I've budgeted in that 5pm meal. Keep the calories in check for that and the subsequent 8pm dinner though, they should be very nearly the same size meals, just 3 hours apart! It helped me a lot, maybe it will help you too. It seems like a hassle, but I eat a lot of frozen meals during the day, and then I cook something nice (but light) for dinner.

Val, your shiny hair might be hydration and the nutrients. Have you been drinking a lot more water than you used to? Your doing great with the exercise. I like the sounds of that Carmen Elektra exercise program. Sounds like fun. Is it cardio or stretching or what?

Thanks for popping into my journal valapalooza! :)

and oooh. don't u just love fitday? so easy to use and it has almost everything.
heh... the added benefits to eating more healthy... not only do you lose weight but you get shinier hair with more body. :)

You guys are so great- I love it!
I'm going to the Tigers game tonight- and let's be honest here, there is nothing healthy to eat at a baseball game. I'm trying to be super duper healthy for the first half of the day so that there is some flexible room later tonight. Wish me luck!

Silver- I think my favorite part about biking is the breeze! Where I live the main roads are mile roads (8 mile, 9 mile, 10 mile, etc.) so it's fairly easy for me to calculate the miles. I had an odometer for my bicycle, but I seem to have misplaced it since last summer- It was really good for tracking distance and speed.

missprincess: Your idea for 2 meals in the evening is a pretty good one. I managed to keep myself happy when I got home from work yesterday with one of those 10 calorie jello's and a few crackers, but in the future I'll have to look into having a mini-meal at that time and another mini-meal with my bf when he gets home.

Pineola- I have been drinking a lot more water lately- so maybe that is what is helping my hair so much. Whatever it is, I want to keep doing it! The Carmen Electra video series has a couple of different segments. The first one has a few striptease routines and a very large warm-up/stretching segment. The routines are pretty good for cardio. The second video is "Fit to Strip" or something- and it is basically Carmen and her trainer going through her workout. Wow!, I sweated like crazy!!! They have a cardio/strenth training thing going on that is out of control! Some of the moves are a bit too much for me at this point so I have to modify them somewhat (I can't do pushups to save my life)-

C: Fitday is great- I like how you can use it to analyze why you're eating- what meal it is- what reason - your mood when you decided to eat... It really helps you realize where your downfalls are

Hey Valapalooza,
Good luck at the game tonight, you're right, there is *nothing* healthy to eat there!

Have Fun :D
