Trops Diary

Great job on the run Trops.

Looks like you'll be takin' your friends out to eat to celebrate your goal acheivment... what are you planning for when you hit your new goal?

The plan was that I'd take them out when I hit 185. That is what I made my new goal, so that's the plan. Looking forward to it, too. I haven't had steak since then which was some time in June. :ack2: Damn! I gotta get me a steak.

No STEAK???? :eek2: I wouldn't be able to survive. Take away my chocolate, take away my french fries, take away my bread... but take away my steak? Oh hell no! 3 things I've refused to give up during this whole thing are my steak, my Jack and my coffee. I don't consume a lot of any of those anymore, I really cut back when I started this whole journey... but cut out? No freakin' way.

I'm such an ornery thing sometimes. :smilielol5:

I haven't had a steak in four months now!!!!! I LOVE steak!!! When I hit 30 pounds lost, I'm going to get a "lean" cut steak, and a baked potato!! I'm not using food as a reward mind you... just finding new healthy alternatives for this lifestyle ;) ;)

Oh, I haven't cut out beef, or steak. I just haven't been choosing steak. You know where you order up a porterhouse steak, marinated, sprinkled with blucheese and broiled to just where it gets more tender. :drool5:

Thanks for stopping by... uh... I don't know what to call you... Mr 14(?) :D You might not want to stop by for a little while. I'm thinking about food big time.

Right now I'm going through a baking phase. I'm not that into cooking but I really want to bake. Bread, cake, cookies, pie. I think it's the harvest season that gets into me. Baking and canning. I just processed 10 quarts of pumpkin puree last week. Now I'm thinking I got some pies to make. Good thing I'm stuck at work tonight and don't have anything with me to bake. ;)

:drool5:Thanks a lot Trops.:drool5: Here I am trying like hell to get into a largely meatless, low in saturated fat diet to drop my 260 total cholesterol numbers and you go talking about porterhouse steak. Only my favorite cut of all time, you know, nicely seared over an open flame with just the right seasonings:drool5: Ooh and serve that up with a baked potato loaded withbutter and sour cream:drool5:

I guess I'll go reheat the leftover tofu stir fry from last night...

I like Mr 14, makes me sound all mysterious....

I can relate to baking, I've eaten many baked items in my life and feel I have a strong bond with the whole 'baking' way of life!!

The problem(?) is that baking is pretty fun, and of course the results are pretty good too ;)

Plus there is nothing like the smell of freshly baked bread :drool5:

...im gonna go now :leaving:

:seeya:

Don't forget the bleu cheese. It gives it that certain sour salty oh my god this is good flavor. The juices dripping off mixing with the seasonings and bleu cheese. :reddevil: Me, I'd skip the baked potato, but some garlic bread. Oh, now that's something. Not that crap that they sell in the grocery store. I'm talking the good Trops just made it garlic is roasted and mixed right in the dough focaccia with perhaps some thyme and coarse salt. :drool5:

I can skip the bleu cheese, that is hit or miss with me, I like th eflavor of th esteak so much that I don't want to mess with it much...

I'm with ya on the garlic bread though, some freshly crushed garlic with a little Thyme and basil...

I'm also thinking about drink. I want to start making liqueurs. I have a friend who make them and they are wonderful, and pretty easy to make. Problem is that I'll drink more then she's giving. Time to make my own. I am going to make a cranberry liqueur, a black cherry liqueur, and my favorite is something called Athollbrose, which is whiskey, oatmeal, and honey. It sounds weird, but holy shit is it good. I got 48 375ml bottles and corks to fit. I think I'm making that tomorrow. Gonna be a happy Trops. :jump:

That sounds nice Trops. I used to work for a large juice company with a very fine reputuation...

Anyway, we would periodically get some of the higher Brix juices before they were cut, and ferment them into wines Apple cranberry makes a very nice wine. I'm sure that with proper processing it could yield a nice harder liquor too.

Your talking to the guy who wears a kilt to work on occasion. Not only do I get strange looks, I revel in them.

I've worn a kilt out to bars for no reason at all as well!! Good times!!! I had this young woman approach me and say...

"I be knowin' them real scottish dudes ain't be wearin' underwares under dem kilts... is you???" I said hang around for the show and you'll see. She said "when dat be??" I said depends on how many pitchers I have. She then said "what's pictures got to do wit it???" I said see ya later.... GOOD TIMES!!!

Re: steak: yesterday I ordered a prawn burrito at a Mexican restaurant in Watsonville and they gave me steak without me knowing--bit into it and spit it out. Had to go back and get it changed. That sucked. Almost had me!

I'm a rare person who doesn't like steak like some people just don't like brussel sprouts. I remember being 14 and my mom trying to make me eat it, and my friends came by during dinner and she let me talk to them outside. I grabbed a handful of steak when she wasn't looking, and when my friends were talking to me I threw the steak pieces on the roof. That is one thing I would never do to my kid if I had one: make them eat something they hated. She also tried to make me eat scrambled eggs and finally gave up when I started to retch, and not even on purpose. Ugh. I really am not much into animal products.

I was once in France in Carcassone at a 3 star hotel, and they served duck and some fancy macaroni. I HATE macaroni and I found duck to be disgusting. A shame, because to a normal person that was a gourmet meal. I ate bread and butter and got drunk. I was 16 and glad France doesn't really have a drinking age (that they regulate much). It was 2000--the drinking age was 16 I think.

I don't make my kids eat anything that they really hate, but they have to earnestly try to determine if it's something that they don't like. My son doesn't like peanut butter. Likes peanuts and peanut products, but not peanut butter. He gets jelly sandwiches for lunch because that's what he likes. If he says that he doesn't like beans, which he's tried before, I know that it's just something that he'd rather not eat. Sorry, buddy, that's what's for dinner. Eat up, it's good for you.

No room for picky eaters here. :reddevil:

I've got a 3 bite rule. Ashleigh has to have at least 3 bites of everything on her plate. though I don't cook things I know she won't eat, like corn(weird child) :) So far it's worked for me
