Trops Diary

I was once in France in Carcassone at a 3 star hotel, and they served duck and some fancy macaroni. I HATE macaroni and I found duck to be disgusting. A shame, because to a normal person that was a gourmet meal. I ate bread and butter and got drunk. I was 16 and glad France doesn't really have a drinking age (that they regulate much). It was 2000--the drinking age was 16 I think.

Next time you should try the Lapin a La Cocotte. Bunny stew anyone? :biggrinjester:

Had any good jumps lately Trops? I feel like Saturday is a good time for me to renew the "CHASE". Who knows... maybe showin' off for my kids will inspire me to hit 500 in a row?!? Maybe I should pick up one of those counting ropes before then, because I think, 3 little kids counting at the same time may get distracting! :D

I jumped 10,000 on Monday. Good time, too. Finally got my rhythm with the new rope, and that makes all the difference. Went running on Tuesday and then nothing yesterday, but I did go for a long walk. Tonight is the gym.

Sounds like a good week so far. Man, 10,000 seems SO FAR AWAY... but I'll keep trying!! That number seems just astronomical to me right now!!

Oh, on a side note... put me down for some bunny stew!! :biggrinjester:

Yeah, bunnies are so lean that you have to do something to keep them from drying out. Stew is the easiest, but roasting them while covered and they come out so moist and tasty. Roast them with root vegetables like turnips and carrots and some onion and they lend the flavors to each other. (a little rosemary in there is nice)

I don't make my kids eat anything that they really hate, but they have to earnestly try to determine if it's something that they don't like. My son doesn't like peanut butter. Likes peanuts and peanut products, but not peanut butter. He gets jelly sandwiches for lunch because that's what he likes. If he says that he doesn't like beans, which he's tried before, I know that it's just something that he'd rather not eat. Sorry, buddy, that's what's for dinner. Eat up, it's good for you.

No room for picky eaters here. :reddevil:

That's too funny! Kids are so funny like that. My nephew will not want to eat something because the way it looks, once we get him to take a bite he usually likes it.

I remember having to plug my nose to swallow nasty overcooked spinach as a kid.

Damn! Those are some of my favorite foods. Well, snails I like, but you know what they say. Cover leather in garlic and butter and it will taste good.

I'm really working on overcoming the mushroom finickyness because they are so good for you.

I've never heard the leather phrase, that's too funny. I don't like the taste of butter either. Good for me, or I'd really be in trouble.

I remember when I was little my parents used to try to make me eat peas... green peas... I hate peas like that to this day... I couldn't handle them... I can handle them if they are in something though but alone, hell no... I also hated steak for quite a few years because of my dad being crazy with the grill... He used to char the hell out of every piece of meat I ever had as a kid, he was obsessed with getting it well done... So I finally had steak once when it was medium rare and fell in love with it... I don't eat it super often though. I also don't do duck... so so gross, I can't handle gamey tastes at all... Other than that though I'm not a very picky eater...

I consider myself very lucky. Even as a kid there was very little food I didn't like. But like others, my parents made sure I TRIED everything. (I think the only thing I didn't like then and still dont like is liver and lima beans). One of the keys I think is to introduce alot of foods to a child at a young age, especially foods that are not over processed and loaded with sugar, so they don't know the super sweet taste and then crave it.

I am fortunate too, to have kids that like most everything. Like my folks, I introduced lots of veggies and fruits at a young age, and made sure they try different things all the time. Both my 12 year old and 8 year old like alot of foods most kids won't touch - like fish and spinach for example. Don't go thinking that we are all organic or super health freaks tho - they do eat chips, cookies, ice cream and such . . but in moderation.

My parents introduced us to many foods at an early age, at least I thought... There really isn't too much I pass on. What's strange is the fact that my mother absolutely hated brussel sprouts, so she'd never ever cook them, and neither did my dad... So I finally tried one when I was about 20 or 21 and kinda liked them... I don't eat them all the time but they aren't too bad, imo...

LOL! I'm like your dad, grill the crap out of that meat, literally!! No red for me. Yuck!!

I love peas!!

Cooking meat that much makes me sad. Poor cow. It wanted to be so tasty and now it's ruined. ;)

When my old man orders a steak... he says "kill it, wipe it's butt, throw it in a skillet 2 minutes a side, and bring it to me." I like a medium well steak, but how he gets his... it's easy to not want to eat a lot when out with him :puke:

Well, I had my steak last night, and didn't do too bad. I bought a nice big steak 2 1/2 pounds for the whole family and about half or maybe a little less is left. I didn't do too badly for portion control. I've been known to finish a 2 pound steak by myself. I also had two glasses of wine with dinner. A very nice Cabernet Franc, but should have been a little bolder for the steak. The second one I drank after and really enjoyed the afterglow flavors. Unfortunately I ate some ice cream and two twix bars after dinner. Dumb because I know I'm not getting a workout in today.

All this talk about steak made it impossible to walk past them at the commisary on Saturday. so, I've got a nice little Shandy sized steak waiting to be cooked and devoured. :drool5: I can't wait. :D
Hope you had a good weekend.
Ciao Bello
