Trops Diary

No drinking?!?!!? :(

Just kidding. You DO hamstring curls to keep them strong, don't you? I HAVE to, I read that if my hamstrings are too off balance with the quads it could fuck up my knees, running. I always work out the muscles that get less use when I weight train....

I kind of have the opposite problem. Your ham strings are connected to your lower back and when they are tight it pulls the back out of alignment. The abs push the spine back where it should be. My ham strings are just way too big, so when they get tight the abs just can't hold it all together.

Today I'm working a double shift. Midnight till four PM, but it's really 1030 last night till 230 this after noon. I have the same shift tomorrow. Vacation coverage is a bitch.

My back if feeling so much better today. I would like to go out running and the weather is beautiful for it, but I think I'll give it one more day. Tomorrow is supposed to be great weather, too.

Thanks, I'll remember. I think that it doesn't really put a strain on my back, it just hurts from the movement, so if it hurts I won't go, but if it's fine I' going. I hate running, but I really see the scale move down when I get serious with it.

Hey Trops - I finally got some time to check in on things and wanted to say hi! How's it going?

Ali, love. How's things? Hopefully things will be calming down at work, for you. How's the summer going?

To be honest, I get the sense that things are never 'calming down' at work...it appears that this may be the new normal, which is a frightening proposition in and of itself :)

Summer is going well for the most part, I am dealing with some things here but I am happy that this is the first summer in a long time where I wasn't praying for it to be over bc I couldn't take the heat :)

All in all, hanging in there...

How you doin? ;)

Things are going well. I'm not getting to spend as much time with the kids as I like, but that's always the case for me. I'd love to be home with them all the time.

summer is tough here because everyone is on vacation, so the people left have to cover for them. That means extra shifts. I like the money, but I'd rather have it spread out a bit. I'm just finishing up my second 17 hr shift for the weekend. That sucks, but what can you do. This week coming up I'm going to have to work both of my scheduled days off, too. Fun summer for the kids, huh?

We did have a blast on vacation. We all took up archery. We got bows for each of the kids, my wife and me. Then when we got home I set up a range in the back yard. The kids love it. My youngest is just 6 (almost7) so I'm real concerned about drilling the safety aspects into him. My big girl, (8 almost 9) has gotten real good at listening to direction and applying it. It's so much fun watching them really go at it.

Recurve or compound?

Recurve or compound?

My wife got a nice recurve, I have a longbow, and the kids have cheap recurves. The accuracy is so much better on a compound, but it doesn't do for the kind of shooting that we do. The recurves are more instinctual once you get good at it.

I was able to catch some archery during the Olypics on Friday. Man, those guys are lethal! I alos found it interesting how they let the bow just fall after they took the shot. Assume it is some sort of "follow-thru" move. Must work! LOL
