Trops Diary

Just helping the kids with their homework and I realized that they have off from school tomorrow. :svengo: Not much sleep then. Good thing I'm all rested up now. Perhaps I'll take them to the gym and fall asleep on the exercise bike.

Haha--I find exercise bikes to be incredibly boring.

I couldn't afford a car or insurance and all that until I received my inheritance when I was 23. Until then, I rode my bike and/or took the bus everywhere. Exercise bikes, to me, were like "why would I bother? That's all I do!!!" It is a GREAT cardio workout, though--I can see how hard it is when I peek in the window during a spinning class at my gym. I just can't bring myself to ever be in a spinning class. It wouldn't be fun for me, and exercise should definitely me a little fun, if not a lot.

I don't do the exercise bikes, either. I just thought it would be funny to be on a piece of cardio equipment fast asleep. Not as funny with a treadmill.

I used to sometimes jump on them when it was rainy (I don't run in the rain, just plain don't like it) when everyone was on the ellipticals (the only exercise cardio machine I can stand). I'm pleased that this winter I have belly dancing to practice instead--it's way more fun, and it's a SKILL that's SEXY. This is very cool to me :)

522 jumps Trops!!! I did it this morning!! On to 600!! Heart willing!! :D I'm damn happy about this... can you tell?!?!? 10,000 still seems a LOOOOONNNNGGGGG ass ways away, but I'm takin it in increments! Have a good one.

Last night I was all full of energy, so I hit the gym after the kids were all ready for bed. I did a quick lift, but I got some good improvements on my weights. I'm thinking about making that a focus this month. Sure I'll still run and jump, but I think I should really focus on building up the muscle. at least upper body and core. I don't think my legs need any increase and perhaps adding bigger muscles to them will inhibit the running. I would like to improve my chin ups (currently at 7 max), bench press, curls, and dips. Shoulders seem to be doing ok, but that is mostly because of the way I'm always lifting the kids. They get bigger and I get stronger. :D

Today I'm not so energetic. I want to go to the gym for some cardio, but perhaps I'll just go running instead. The thing that sucks is that I misplaced my watch for my heart rate monitor over the weekend. I'd hate to go out without it. It's something that really keeps me motivated. I can use the machines at the gym because they will pick up the signal from the band, but to run outside I'll need the watch part. :(

The thing is I know I had it over the weekend camping. I remember taking it off because who needs a watch out in the woods? Now I have a shit load of camping stuff to go through to find it. I just hope it didn't fall out while packing up and now it's out in the woods. :ack2:

Nah I was actually saying "Look at JZ coming in here like he's Hot Stuff, showing off and everything." But yeah--GREAT JOB!

I can't spell what it was I wanted to say... so I'll describe it! The sound produced by sticking ones tounge out of their mouth and passing a blast of air acrossed it!! may sound like PLRPLRPLRPLR????!!! I swear we need "mr. Smilie" flippin' the bird as one of the options!!!

If you want to hit the weights and limit growth then I would recommend a strength routine similar to the one I'm doing.

Stick around the 5-rep range. It is optimal for building strength and power but with limited muscle growth compared to training in the 10-12 range which brings about much more muscle growth, but comparatively less strength gains.

I plan on doing this routine for several months to build a really good, solid powerful base. Then when I have met a couple criteria (squat 1.5x bw [255 lbs for me] for example) I may change the workout up to a higher rep range for a while.

It's always about keeping the body guessing right? It adapts to what we throw at it and then we stall/plateau. I think mixing up the workout every several months would be equally beneficial as mixing up the diet from time to time.
