Tinysara's weight loss diary extrordinare!

Hey Sara, I would just like to say... you had a very successful day! You ate well, even with the "cheat", and had a great workout!! If you want some "sweets", just manage them into your daily calorie goal and have them, or alot for them on a certain day of the week. You are doing this for life woman!!! You have to splurge sometimes!! As for the bake sales... maybe just run over, throw your money at them since they are for good causes, and run away without snatchin' anything???? Not to sure. Could be pretty entertaining!! :D Have a good and PRODUCTIVE day!!! ;) ;)

I've done that. If the bake sale is being run by kids I will ask what their favorite is and then buy that for them. Thank yous abound. :coolgleamA:

HAHA That's my move, too!

Great work so far, Sara. I'm going to be canceling my gym membership soon and probably putting that money into some jiu-jitsu, krav maga or something like that.

Jz- thanks for the encouragement pal :) That is a great idea, ahaha although I think I'd freak them out a little bit. You would be proud of me today, I DID have a productive day!!

Trops: Also an awesome idea. I wish it were kids though...but I guess they are probably starving students much like myself. I will for sure try it next time :D

Fish: Glad to see you back! I missed ya'! To be honest, the workout you'll get during a jiu jitsu class is probably as good as if not BETTER than just going to the gym. Once you understand all the moves, you can end up 'rolling' with someone for a good solid hour. That's flexing your abs, using EVERY MUSCLE for an HOUR. You get DRENCHED with sweat. I have a feeling you would love it! I've never heard of Krav Maga though, what is that? Hope you had a great day!

Hey everyone!
Well today was another great day. I'm starting to get on a roll here. Although I woke up late and missed my 8:30 class, I did sleep in until 10am which was MUCH needed!

Here's what I ate:

Breakfast: Boost shake
Lunch: 1/2 tuna salad sandwich
Dinner: 15 small shrimps in a shrimp cocktail (with homemade cocktail sauce!) and a small cesar salad (With croutons).

This brings my grand total to just over 900 calories. I know, I know, I KNOW this is not enough calories for me, or for anyone. I just don't know what to do...I've never been a big 'fatty foods' person at all, and i'm trying to keep my carbs low-ish where I can. I think I'll go and make myself a slice of toast with peanutbutter, just to bring my calories to 1000 (1003 to be exact :D). If anyone has tips for me on what I should eat to bring up my cals (without being super unhealthy or super packed with carbs!) please fill me in. I'm thinking maybe I should start bringing almonds or sunflower seeds around with me to munch on...I'm just not that much of a snacker!

I got in my run today! I was sure glad I went out and bought those blister cushions, because I would have been in some pain! I was proud of myself for doing this: The old me would have said 'ahh, it hurts too much, I'll just wait until next week'. I'm trying to put myself in a 'no excuses' state of mind!

When I got to the gym, all the treadmills were in use (we only have five, what kind of shit is that) so I used this weird elliptical/treadmill/stairmaster hybrid. I found it quite difficult and tiring because it was always on an incline, which made my calves get pretty tired. About 15 minutes through my run, a mill became free, so I just picked up where I left off.

5 min 'walk' to warm up (pretty hard to walk on that hybrid!)
-60 seconds 'running' (I increased resistance and upped my steps/min to 165ish)
-90 seconds 'walking' (decreased resistance by 3 points, steps at about 140/min)

On the mill, it was the same as usual...
-60 seconds running (speed at 5.8)
-90 seconds walking (speed at 3.5)
For my cooldown I increased the incline to about 12 (max is 15) and walked slowly until my heart rate was back down around 140.

I felt REALLY TIRED during my run because it was about 6:00 and I hadn't had my dinner yet...Lunch was around noon. Needless to say I'm still exhausted and can't wait to go to bed tonight.

I'm finally done all my schoolwork until finals, so I've got about two weeks to chill out and study! I started doing a copper etching that I bought from a hobby/toystore, it's a really neat scene of an owl at night. I'll post a picture when I'm done :) I also bought a rather complex paint-by-numbers, but I think I'll save that for my month off school (wahoo!)

Hope you all had excellent days!

Nice work today!

BTW, are you a big fan of handcrafts? I love working with stuff when I have the time. Not very artistic with painting and such, but I'm not bad with wood.
I built my own kayak once and have a couple more in progress.

sounds like a very productive day. The bread and peanut butter I use would be so much more then 100 cal. What are you using? I love PB&J, but it's the rare occasion that I'll have one because it's so high in calories.

Karl: I'm pretty good with clay and paint. Never crossed into woodworking although I would love to! That's awesome that you built your own kayak! Any plans to sell some?

Trops: I just put in to Fitday: 'one slice bread, multigrain' and 'peanutbutter: 1tbsp". I eat multigrain like it aint no thang!

edit: Sorry trops, I didn't realize that I had already had '2 slices multigrain' in today when I had only had one with the 1/2tuna salad sandwich. So the ~100 cals came from the peanutbutter alone. So without the peanutbutter on toast, i would have only had about 780 cals :(!

Hi, I was reading your WL diary and I had to stop by and say hello. Also because I love fitday and I also eat multigrain like it aint no thang.

tinysara,

Thanks for dropping in my journal to say hi!

After reading your diary, I feel exhausted. I used to know a girl that had almost exact same dimensions as you and she was a little fireball herself. It's funny, I'm 6'1 almost 6'2 and she is one of the only people in the world I was ever scared of making angry haha.

I think it's awesome you are interested in bjj and karate. One of the most motivating things I did when I lost weight before was bjj and muay thai. Do they make you shrimp in bjj? or do circles? God I hated those lol.

I'm hoping to jump on the couch to 5k program myself after a lose a little bit of weight. I'm really lucky to be best friends with a guy who used to run cross country and track for all of his life.

About the blisters on your feet, do you have thicker socks? What about your shoes? How do they fit? My friend told me the best way to get sized for running shoes was to go for a run, then go shopping. Apparently, as you run your foot swells, as much to 2 sizes bigger sometimes! Just a suggestion if you already knew just ignore me and my ramblings.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. If you or anyone whos reading this loves a funny (crude) movie, you should watch Role Models. I just got back and man, I haven't laughed that hard in awhile.

That's what I was thinking. And you're manhandling (or trying to) another human at the same time... so you're pushing, pulling, twisting and all sorts of shit. I think it'd be awesome. And I did some research -- I can join a BJJ club here in London for $20 more/month than what I'm paying at the gym right now. So if I can figure out how to make it work with my schedule I think I may do that.

Krav Maga is pretty bad ass. It's a hand-to-hand combat system developed in Israel. There are a bunch of demos and shit on youtube.

Oh man. I love PB&J so much... I have two just about every day for 610 calories, total. :D That's 1/4 of my calories for the day, but I fit it in regardless. They're just too damn good!

Karl: That is a BEAUTIFUL kayak! Incredible! I absolutely love the finish. I would love to take that thing out on the water, it would be so fun!! You have incredible talent! I guess you had no trouble designing it though, being an engineer and all :p

Elle: Hey! thanks for coming by! Fitday is pretty awesome. I tried sparkpeople but there was just way too much going on. I don't like the meal plans they reccomend and all that crap...Fitday is just so free and easy. But yeah, multigrain with some peanutbutter = HEAVEN!

Panda: Hey there! Hhaha yes, some people do describe me as a ball of energy...I think I get it from my mom. I was never in organized sports as a kid, so I have always had this buildup of pent-up energy...Working out is one of the only things that can make me relax and be able to fall asleep at a normal time, haha. We shrimp a little in BJJ but it's more of a club/clinic than a class. I've never done circles, we mostly work on a few techniques and then just roll for a few hours. The blisters are just at my achilles tendon...The back of my shoe rubs there for some reason. I've got pretty thick socks but my shoes could be better. They're kind of old and I wore them ALL SUMMER for my job at a lawn care company...which was usually 20 000 steps per day. Rough. I've got nicer shoes but I left them at my Crossfit studio lasttime I went and haven't gotten a chance to go and pick them up. I will before I go home for the christmas break though! Thanks for comin' by :)

Fish: haha wow! two PB and J's?! Insane! The old me would have eaten like 3 for dinner, but nowadays not so much :) You're in London?? I had no idea! SW Ontario whaaat? (I'm not even sure if Guelph is considered SW Ontario...) But yeah, if you can fit BJJ into your schedule, give it a try. You may have to pay extra to get a Gi if the club you're at fights while wearing Gi's, but it's worth it. So many more moves you can do!!

jz: Thanks buddy! I knew you would be!!

On to Today's entry.

Well, friday had an awesome start. After my morning class I went to the gym and snagged a treadmill. I was feeling like upping my routine a little bit, so I increased the speed of my running and walking portions by .2miles each. Holy hell, did I feel it. I was actually pretty concerned though because the HR monitor on the treadmill said my HR got as high as 189...I learned in class the other day that higher than 200 is extremely dangerous...The thing is, I wasn't dying or sweating like a beast when it was 189 so it kind of freaked me out a bit.

Just a recap:
-5 min brisk walk at 3.7 miles/hr
-60 seconds running at 6.0miles/hr
-90 seconds walking at 3.7miles/hr
for 20 minutes. I actually went a little longer though, my total time on the mill being about 30 minutes. I went up to the steepest incline and walked really slowly, bringing my HR down to about 145.

I felt great after that run though. Can't wait to start the new routine today! This week all my runs will be:
-5 min brisk walk
-90 seconds running
-2 minutes walking
for a total of 25 minutes. I'll let you all know how it goes :)

My food choices on Friday and Saturday were pretty bad, although friday during the day was alright. Friday night we went to see Quantum of Solace (awesome) and went out for dinner beforehand. I one beer (Rickard's white, nom nom nom), coconut shrimp as an appetizer and a thai chicken salad-type thing for dinner. However, being with all my friends, i had 'bites' of lots of different things: onion rings, pita/3cheese dip, fries, popcorn, candy...And I actually gave in and got a box of glosettes raisins for the movie. I know, I should know better. I'm just glad that I didn't give in and order two-three beers, burger and fries, etc etc for myself.

Saturday was kind of crappy too. Went out for breakfast and had 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, some home fries and 2 slices of wheat toast with 2 tbsp of jam. And a cafe latte with 2 packets of sugar. Not very good. Went to the bar to watch the fight (FUCK BROCK LESNAR, let me just get it out there) and I had a Cesar Salad and some of my dear sweet S.O's fries. I had quite a few fruity sugary drinks though, and my tummy hurt quite a bit afterwards.

The fights were great. One of the most epic uppercuts i've ever seen in my life:

and also one of the dirtiest arm-locks I've ever seen (Watch Hazelett dislocate Mcrory's shoulder at around 4:12)

Very disapppointed in Couture vs. Lesnar. Lesnar doesn't deserve shit. He got a lucky shot.

Does anyone else kind of wish Couture was their dad??

Anyways, tiny-out!

Hey lady! Just checking in. I hope things are going well! By the above comments sounds like they are!

Hope you're having a great weekend! :)

Two PB&Js for the win! Got today's ready to go. MMMmmMMM!! And yeah I'm a Londoner. I used to hang out in Guelph quite a bit when one of my buddy's lived up there. ANOTHER buddy of mine is currently living there but he's too busy to do shit so I've not been in a few years.

As for BJJ, the club I'm looking at his Gi and No-Gi training. I would prefer no-Gi. I just need to figure out how to afford the classes and how to make the time to hit the classes. The No-Gi classes are Mon, Wed and Sat at 8:00pm. But I know I'd love the shit out of it.

OMG THAT FUCKING SUCKED! Couture was doing exactly what he needed to do to win that fight. Brock was getting wore out and Couture would've been able to take him down and do some damage. The shitty thing is you can't let Lesnar connect because he'll knock your f'n skull clean off your shoulders.

Also - uppercut, Holy shite! That was sick. The look on the dude's face as he was going down was nuts. That punch was INSTANT knockout.

And I wouldn't mind Couture being my dad... I WOULD mind Couture being the father of any chick I dated. :D

MissD: Hey! Thanks for comin' by, I've been looking through your diary lately too, and I SEE THE CHANGES :D so you should too! That recent pic you posted is awesome! Thanks for the encouragement :)

JZ: Thanks pal! I'm a total MMA junkie and proud of it :D

Fish: Both No-Gi and Gi are great, but i'd prefer no-Gi too. 3 days a week eh? Sounds intense, I would love to do BJJ that often around here but it's way too expensive, so I'll just stick to my free club! Also, I hate Lesnar and his stupid Hulk-smash-gamecube-sized-hands. Couture is the KING of slipping past punches and he was doing well up until that two-knuckle grazing. Very very annoying. I hope Nogueira DESTROYS Lesnar. Also, sorry about the broken link, I'll try to find another. But Dustin Hazelett really impressed me in that fight! Awesome ground game; epic beard.

Just wanted to come on and post real quick about my workout and some successes I forgot to mention. Lastnight's run was great, although my shin-bone area was hurting quite a bit whenever my feet touched the ground during my run. Not sure if that's shin splints or not, but I did some stretches after to see if it would help. I adapted to the new routine (90 seconds running, 2 mins walking) very well, and even upped my speed by .1miles!

Over the weekend my S.O. Kev and I went to Winners to do some clothes shopping. At my heaviest, I was usually around a size 10-12, and could SQUEEEEZE into a size 9, with ample belly hanging overtop. I have one pair of old 9's that I wear regularly, but I thought they just fit better because I had stretched them out after wearing them for so long.

At Winners I tried on 9's 8's and 7's. Most of the 9s were too big :O! I bought one pair of 9 jeans that were perfect in the belly/butt but a bit loose in the thighs. The 7's were pretty tight but at least I could get them over my butt! I tried on a nice pair of size 8 black pants, and holy crap, they fit! And they were actually quite loose in the butt/legs!! That's the first time my lower half has worn pants with the number '8' on them in a LONG time. I wore them out to the fight that night, and my sister (who is also on a weight loss journey although not as wholeheartedly) said "Are those new pants? Hmm, I can really see where you've lost weight." EEEEE! She's not the type of person who would just say that to boost my ego, either, so I knew it had to be true :D

Anyways, my next weigh-in and measure-in is on December 9th, and now I'm even MORE eager to see the results. I've always felt like I would never get past that initial 8-10lbs water-weight loss when I start eating healthy. We'll see what happens.

Have a great day folks :)

Seriously, I literally just lol'd. HAHA!

Congrats on bumping up the speed! Every victory counts! What kind of shin pain are you experiencing?

AWESOME! I've only bought one new pair of pants so far. All my other pants are hanging off my ass. I've got a belt that gave me a couple/few months of time but I'm on my last notch on the belt now so next up is some new clothes hehe...

Again, congrats! All the hard work doesn't seem so bad when you start seeing the results, eh?

Haven't bought the new pants yet on account of the fact that I'm cheap...

But it is a great feeling isn't it? I'm with Fish, gotta belt that I keep adding holes to, pants hanging off my butt. I'll have to break down soon, but...

Nice job!

I got that belt, too. It's just the belt that I wear to work. My other belts, I have to get rid of them when they get too long. :cheers2:
