*Tiffany*'s Diary

1 percent of your body weight a week is a realistic expectation... but reality isn't for everyone... Life gets in the way... in 8 months -with consistent behavior -you'll be a lot closer to your goal than you are today... you might not be at 150 but you might not care- you might like what you see at whatever weight you end up in..

you'll have new habits build... and you might be satisfied with whatever number shows up on the scale because those jeans in your dream size fit your butt just right.. and well why mess with perfection.

That is a good reminder, Mal. I try to keep that in mind, but sometimes my competitiveness and excitement gets control which causes my rationality to drip out of my ears. I am actually thinking that I could be pleased around 165 because I am so tall, but my original goal is 150...so I don;t know if I could ever let myself be satisfied until I reach that. That issue gives me something to work on, doesn't it?

I did super well yeasterday, diet wise. I actually had a pretty low cal day (lower than normally needed), but I also had a few really high cals days just before that. The only workout I got in was some heavy house work..enough that I was sweating and tired when I finally finished. However, I don't really count that as a workout.

I got my first issue of Fitness magazine yesterday. Constantly reading about health and fitness seems to help me stay on track. I stack up ideas and tips and new exercises that I can do throughout the day to make a difference. I get Fitness and Self. Does anyone have any suggestions for other good health and fitness magazines?

I ate fried food last night and totally ended up puking. It was stinking nasty and I think I have learned a hard reminder of WHY I DO NOT EAT FRIED FOODS! YUK!

Here's my biggest news: Kora(3) snuck scissors and cut her hair and Allie's (5). Kora cut her own bangs and cut all her curls off and then cut a chunk out of the top of her head that is almost to the scalp! She cut the side of Allie's hair and a little length in the back. Chloe(2) started screaming when Kora tried to do her, so she is unscathed. I was so shocked..and actually, I just started laughing. I was just so grateful that she did not chop the front of their bangs to the scalp. That would have been so horrible since Allie is starting school. I am taking them in about 30minutes to go try to have it fixed a little.

Yikes! LOL I saved some of the hair for their baby books...I still am rolling, but my husband was really mad. He cherishes their hair and he is heart is broken over Kora's curls being gone. Poor daddy...

LOL tiffany! I'm sorry to hear the girl's curls disappeared but nothing that time can't heal. I remember doing that myself when I was five. I cut a chunk of my hair .....my mum was horrified.

I'm with you on the fried foods are gross...my mum baked some fries and I had some tonite...and now I regret it....ugh. I haven't heard of any good health magazines...but that's a great idea. Good motivational tool.

Best of luck with the weight loss, you can do it!

Hey girlie!! I have missed ya!! Seems like your doing well, and reading health magazines is a really good way to stay focused. I like Women's Day, it's not a real magazine, it's more like a newspaper with articles, but it always has some success weight loss story in it, and great recipes too, so I would try one of those if you haven't already.

Are you working on the treadmill at all???? What about weights now? I tell you what house work really can be excercise and good workouts too, I'm running back and forth nonstop on Saturday's around here, and believe me, if your working up a sweat, your burning calories and that's what is most important. Just keeping that heart rate up is what you really need to do, and it seems housework is doing that for you, so YES it is a work out.

What people need to realize is, a work out doesn't have to be at a gym, it can be right at your own home, or outside in your neighborhood taking a brisk walk, it ALL counts, so keep up the great work!!! I see you have lost a total of over 50 lbs already, has that all been in this past year? Or over the past couple? I can't remember how much you lost the last time we were posting like crazy.

Well, I sure hope your week was a great one, and let me know if you come up with anything good from that fitness magazine you got, I'm always looking for new tips.
Later Gator!
Kim

I think every mother has a least one child hair cutting episode! I just try to remember that it will be a funny story when they are older.

And even the workd FRIED makes my stomach turn now....Ewwwww. I am not sure I have ever thrown up so bad...and I have been pregnant SEVEN times!!!

Kim, it really is great to hear from you! I love it that you sound so happy.:)

As to your questions, I have not been on the treadmill in quite a while. I prefer getting outside and running...save the treadmill for bad weather. I am lifting weights at least a few times a week...which Steve has said is plenty for someone in a caloric deficit. (gotta listen to that guy...have you seen his guns?? lol) Mostly I am switching out a few of my fav DVD's in the mornings and then either running the streets or pumping the elliptical in the evenings. I am about to re-start my calesthenics(if I spelled that correctly) I usually see major results within a week when I do those.

Oh, and my 50 pound loss started back on March 13, 2007. I really should be much closer to my goal, but I fell WAAAY off track for almost 6 months!! What a loss of time! ugh Oh well, I am back on track and going hard. Thanks for checking in on me!!

oh my goodness, she cut her hair huh?? yea, I have two and so far the oldest has cut her hair...twice...well, cut it once, in the middle of her bangs no less...and then shaved...yes, shaved a spot the size of a quarter on the "crown" of her head!! That was about 8 mths ago, now that the hair is growing back, its just long enough to stick straight up!

anyways....i'm glad your on track now, thats all that counts Tiffany...i'm back on track too..we can't let ourselves engage in those "what ifs" you know....just keep at it hun, you'l get there!

OH, MY! She SHAVED it??!? I have had two of mine try to shave their chins. They both actually cut themselves (minorly) and have been afraid to mess with razors since then. Hopefully that holds out until they are teens and NEED to use razors.

Well, today I am going grocery shopping. It is about time! I am in desperate need of some healthy grub. I am considering doing the Sacred Heart for a week. I have been working hard for a few weeks now and I am still hovering back and forth between 205 and 210. AND-the week after next I will be at a week-long revival (read: surrounded by down-home country cooking at its best) and could really use a jump start to pump-up my devotion to this in order to resist going over board at the revival.

Grocery shopping day is always special to me. We have a "tradition" that I take one of my three girls with me and spend some special alone time together. I love it and so do my girls. They are so diligent about whose turn it is, too. You know, they fight about everything else, but THIS they really get along on....I love it. They really are sweet girls.

On the diet front: I have already gotten some "sweatin' to the yard work" in this morning, so I am on top of the game already! Be back later...

yes! she shaved it! Can you imagine my shock when I was combing her hair and long strands were comming out!? I was like, "um, faith, did you cut your hair?" and she said "no!" as if it were a dumb question. So I continued to brush and I kept seeing more and more long strands comming out and I started freaking!! I was thinking "OMG, why is my 10 y/o's hair falling out!?! is she sick???" So I was searching through her hair when I found the shaved part... I was not happy, lol At least she didn't have cancer though, lol!

I hope you have fun at the groceries!! WTG on that yard work too!!! Looks like your off to a great day :D

Yes, that had to be quite a relief to you. I canjust imagine you saying, "Oh good, you just shaved you head....whew!" lol Your child would be so confused. haha

I am so excited! My husband has agreed to do the Sacred Heart diet with me for a week to jump start his weight-loss! He has needed to make an effort for so long. He is 27, well over 300 pounds and already has things like sleep apnea (he sleeps with a breathing machine), high blood pressure, frequent nose bleeds, and more. I have been so afraid that he would die early. I guess he is finally ready to try. He told me he needed something to jump start it to get him motivated and I had been toying with the idea of starting the Sacred Heart, so I just said "Hey, let's do this together." I am praying that he loses a lot and like the feeling so he will stick to it. He has also agreed to start going on morning walks! In the past, he has been viciously against any type of exercise, so this is HUGE!

I am so HAPPY!!

yay!!! i'm really glad to hear it!! Theres nothing better than spousal support when your trying to make a change...I hope it works out for you both :D

Heres to a lovely sunday :)

Be careful with this diet - most people who use it - see very temporary results -anything lost generally comes right back on within a few days of the diet ending... not exactly the motivating jump start most people want..

Why not just go with lifestyle change...

He backed out anyway, Mal. I was just grasping at anything that could get him on board. He is in SERIOUS need of weight loss.

So, we will eat the soup because I already made it, but not to be on the diet.

Actually, he is still willing to go on the walks and such so maybe if I explain the lifestyle change things to him then he will be willing to try...I dunno.

Thanks for the advice. Hopefully things will start to change for him soon, but I know I can no force him. Sigh

You cant make someone do something they aren't ready to do - however, going on walks with you is a great start and will give you some quality time as well...

Whos' the meal planner/preparer in your house? One of the things that's tough for some people to grasp is that eating healtheir doesnt mean you're subjected to a lifetime of boiled chicken and steamed broccoli and salad with no dressing -healthy food can and should taste good..

I am the meal preparer mostly. Since I started this healthier lifestyle, I have been cooking much healthier. He like many of the things that I make and has really improved his eating while at home. Not that he has much of a choice since this is how I cook now, BUT while he is at work he is sitting most of the day and will drink Dr.Pepper and munch on snacks from the machine. I introduced him to some healthier snacks that I would pack for him, but many times they just end up coming home untouched with him in the evenings. He did develop an obsession with sunflower seeds. He eats TONS of them. I tried to explain that they are so calorie dense that what he is doing isn't helping him eventhough he argues that they are a "healthy" snack.

Honeslty, this Thursday is his last day at that job and so he will have a lot more time to exercise. He will also be eating almost all of his meals at home, so that will help, too.

He does want to lose weight, but just does not seem to want to put forth much effort. I am hoping to ease him into it and show him how "easy" it can be once you get started.

if anyone has any advice on "manly" types of things that might get him more interested, I am all ears.

Good luck getting your husband on board! My mom is having this same battle with my dad right now. He's just quit smoking and she's afraid with the way that they eat he's going to pack on tons more weight than he already has...kind of counterproductive when you just quit smoking to get healthy.

And I agree with Mal, a lifestyle change is definitely the way to go. That way you won't get discouraged by boomerang butt. :D

Well, there is my magic golden ticket. What man could resist those results? I wonder why they don't use the penis claim on those weight-loss program commercials aimed at men??!?
