This Trucker Fights Back

Here here! im doing the same. I re-started during vacation and as of next week ill be stopping again (Easier when im working because i never smoke at work for some reason).

I quit from 97 to 2000, what a mess I made of myself weight-wise. Obviously this is a major concern again. I told myself when I hit my GW, I'd keep it in perspective that a weight gain was a certainty and aim for serious damage control. I think I'm better prepared this time around.

You doing cold turkey ?? I was pretty successful with that last time around and I did get to the point where I didn't miss my smokes. I'm wondering if the patch wouldn't be a wise investment this time around *shrugs*

Good Luck Wishy.

WOW over 8 miles! Thats great T2, good job on the walking, keep up the good work. I totaly agree with you on the fast food comments too.

Congrats on the decision to quit smoking. I gave up snuff over a year and a half ago after chewing for about 20 years, so I understand how hard it can be, but you can do it, I have no doubt.

Have a good date.

Thanks Fenster. I'm off for round 2 here in a few minutes. As you know, walking is gonna be a problem in the next couple days with the snow coming.

Have a great day bro.

8.25 miles!

:D:D :D Bravo!! :D:D :D

Thanks for the cheer !!! :)

Whew....over 8 miles is a lot!! Congrats!

Totally carpe diem. Extraordinary results need this kind of effort. I expect this from myself.

KUDOS TO YOU T2... 8 Miles... fantastic!!! :)

Thanks Heidi :) Me and the ipod are heading out the door again. I can't backseat now, I'm too close to let up now.

LOL! GREAT now I've got that song in my head...

Should I sing 'Happy Birthday' instead ?

I have two BTO songs on my ipod but ironically that song isn't one of them

I quit from 97 to 2000, ...
Haha ive been quitting for 5-10 years now :/
Ill quit (usually cold turkey) for a couple years and then take it up again for some reason, then a few months later kick it again.
I think its somewhat like drinking, once addicted always addicted lol. But in all seriousness i dont usually smoke long because i kick its ass again.

Yeah cold turkey works for me., That way the horrible part isnt drawn out for weeks of cutting down and patches and gum
only the first couple days are the killer then the rest is mental. I can handle the mental stuff (most of the time) fine.

5.25 miles in 76 minutes. By my gorilla math that's a shade under 14:30 a mile which is pretty strong (for me). Again no break during the walk and I'm reaching deeper to keep my head up and stop slumping over in that last mile. I really do start dragging my feet through the pea gravel a bit and don't even realize I'm walking sloppy until I notice I'm looking straight down at my feet. My times really slow down when I start losing my concentration and my posture.

I gotta admit, I'm beat right now. 13.50 miles inside of 24 hours was a good workout for my level. I'm severely excited for spring to get here. I can't wait to maintain the next level for my goals.

Good Times :)

Smoking isn't a big deal to me, neither is drinking. I consume a pack every 3 or 4 days when I am "smoking like a fiend", and one pack a month when I am just having an occasional smoke every once in awhile.
I'm glad to see yuo are getting out and walking a lot man, I want to do more, but need to bring friends until I can get my knee fixed (every once in awhile, it just kinda falls apart, and when you're hiking a couple of miles fropm the car, that's a bad thing). It's tough finding people that like going hiking, dammit!

Just checking in. I haven't been around much this weekend and haven't read through anything so I'll on you hopefully tomorrow!!:D

Woo Hoo!
Another 5.25 mile day! Randy - that is a huge accomplishment - and YES your timing is good :)

I agree with you, posture is huge - good for you for catching yourself!

:) Wonderful effort with the walking. :)

Do you still feel amazed at yourself?!!

I do find it inspiring to hear what you are doing with it - fortunately - because walking has made such a difference to me - and I never expected I would end up doing even as much as I do now.

Good Morning!! I'm not walking anywhere near as that much!! You mentioned something called "snow" several posts back. Can't say I've see much of that here in Vermont:D .

Sounds awesome Randy; I soooo can't wait until spring so I can get out again.

Youbetcha DQ !! Spring is probably a most cherished event for you up there. I do feel for ya being up there in the cold region. To be honest, I hope you can someday leave your isolation (of sorts) and put that new slendering body to use in warm climate and enjoy good year round weather. What a great way to keep weight off where you can be active 365 days a year !!

I hear ya man, I'd hate to have to ask my friends to carry me out of the woods too !! Glad to know there are people who can control their smoking, I'm an all or nothing kinda guy, so nothing it is !!

Hi Mechelle :) Sounds like you stayed busy over the weekend eh, well now your back to your quiet time and can kick back and enjoy.

I hope you have a great day !!

Thanks Debi :) As predicted, the weather definitely started taking its turn for the worse but I'm going to get more exercise this week than I have in along time !! only most of it is going to be of the lifting variety :( By Friday, I'll probably be walking like I have my tie caught in my zipper.

Amazed ?? not really only because the night I made a promise to myself I wasn't going to break. We can agree that these distances we're now capable of weren't really a vision I had when I started and I give much credence to a certain someone on WLF for making me interested in going longer and farther. The support here can truly be inspiring for those who come here with that intention.

'Amazing' is a popular adjective from people I come in contact with that haven't seen for awhile. 'Amazement' is the life my diary took on (not always in a good way either). I think people who are sincere about weight loss 'amaze' themselves with their own results because they know the hard work it takes to get results. 'Amazed' comes to mind for my detractors who go out of their way to think they have some negative effect on my efforts, yet they still watch my progress. I'm too strong to let anything stop me.

oh beckster, I'm just taking advantage of some great weather and really we haven't had much snow here this year either. It was a great opportunity to knock off some holiday 'spirits' :) I hope you have a wonderful day.

OK - what are you lifting?

Sounds like you expect no less from yourself than you're doing. Well good for you. :) I love to hear of your achievements and I'm sure I will continue to be inspired. :)

The "getting carried out" is not a possibility, lol. I just like having people who can go back to my car and grab the leg brace and my crutches, if it happens. As for the smoking, I just never really smoked a LOT, I mean it still makes me feel nauseous if I smoke too much in an evening.
It's one of the few vices I have control over; now if only I could manage the same thing with french fries...

I'm glad to hear you're doing well, man. :D

hy T2.........i was wonderin what you have been up too.............I feel bored and uninspired lately........you always inspire me with your charm!!!! but you must be in bed or out somewhere.............oh well .............laters STAR
