Just enjoy the day. Thanksgiving needn't be an anal retentive event over the food, but at some point you need to execute minimal control. You're old enough to know when to pull the plug.

I'd rather prep now and enjoy the day than boo hoo about it on Friday. We all know it's coming, right ?? :)

If that video jazzed up one person then I'm completely happy :)

Are you taking vitamins?? I am, and I'm trying not to forget everyday. Thought i'd see who else is, and remind them to if they are not.

ix-nay on the itamin-vays but it probably wouldn't hurt to do so especially with vitamin C. Being a diabetic and all I miss out on my favorite fruit - the orange almost exclusively.

I do eat a reasonably healthy diet and probably assume all the vitamins are in there however it sure wouldn't hurt to profile them for vita-content. I'd probably learn I'm lacking somewhere on the vitamin scale.

G'Morning T2,
After looking at my diet, it was pretty clear I was lacking in quite a bit, so I've been taking multi pretty regularly - what you don't need or use, your body just pee's out anyway.

Then I better look into this seriously.

Yay for the walk, very nice!! :D:D:D
You're attitude about Thanksgiving is infectious. I was pretty worried about it but now I'm like, ehh whatever. I'll get through it. I'm making a cheesecake per my aunties request.. I just won't tell her it's low fat. ;)

Have a great night Toots!! :D:D

Thx Amy and I  the trick about the hush hush. I'll bet they never notice - think so ?? I do.

So the average Thanksgiving dinner is 3000 Calories:

The American Council on Exercise (ACE), America's nonprofit fitness advocate, suggests balancing caloric intake over a several day period and committing to physical activity to stay healthy through the holidays.

"To burn off a 3,000 calorie Thanksgiving Day meal, a 160 lb. person would have to run at a moderate pace for four hours, swim for five hours or walk for 30 miles. Many people don't just stop at the meal, snacking throughout the day can lead up to a total caloric intake of 4,500," says Dr Cedric Bryant, ACE chief exercise physiologist. "But it doesn't have to be this way, all foods can fit into a quality diet and exercise plan, including holiday delicacies."

Secrets to a healthy holiday
1.You can make up for a feast of rich, higher-fat foods with lighter, lower-fat meals for the next couple of days. Or plan for tomorrow night's party with a low-calorie, low-fat breakfast and lunch.

2. Look back and assess your diet over the past few days. Were you on the party circuit last weekend? Then look ahead. Are there celebrations looming?

3. Don't panic or feel guilty if your diet seems to have gotten out of hand. When you balance your intake over several days, you have the time to regain control.

4. Make physical activity a regular habit. Beyond burning calories, exercise is essential for good health and well-being.

5. Have a salad, light soup or fruit before leaving home or prior to your meal.

6. Select only "special" or favorite foods at a holiday buffet -- leave standard fare like potato chips, nuts and rolls for the other guests.

7. Space the party beverages -- have a glass of sparkling water after a glass of wine or cup of eggnog.

8. Practice portion control. A smaller serving of the real thing can be very satisfying.

Just thought I'd post this, adds to what I've been saying all along but then most of us already knew this. I just refuse to have a bad Thanksgiving dinner and I also refuse to gain 60 lbs over it oo - I can have the best of both worlds on this one.

Seconded T2,

It just gets easier and easier the more you say no. the whole portion control thing eventually becomes habit.
Nibbling on vege snacks or fruit is also a great way to fill up between the odd "special" items you have :)

I hope so Wishy, this is my first holiday season on a 'diet' and I'm bound to do something stoopid sooner or later but I'd like think I'd screw up with eating pound of cashews instead of like 5 slices of pizza hut or a trip to mcdonalds.

Some boo boo's are dumber than others. I live for damage control now - pretty much have to if I wanna see the finish line.

How's your book coming along ??
