Oh yes. I have had that question before. It's made of whole rolled wheat grains, nothing much added - just they are squashed together into rectangular blocks - about 1/2" x 3" x 2 1/2 ". I put tinned peaches on them and soya milk and I do love them! :) A very yummy start to my day.

I have a Weet-bix hat at home from my time in Oxford. I still remember the commercials they were running in 1986--"Crispy, crunchy, wakey, wakey, wakey." You're doing great Felici.

Hi Felici!

Where abouts are you? I think not UK, but you have weetabix and JELLY not jello!

Great food menu again as always. :D

Tom. From what other people have said, I don't think they make them in the US. Strangely I've never heard that they are one of the things Australians miss when they visit. (It's always about vegemite and Tim-Tams.) They have been here forever though - I always thought they were one of the original cereals - like cornflakes - probably because when I was little that was all the choice my parents offered us.

Cannon - Thanks Cannon. My son has his fairly firm. You have to eat them fast to get them "crispy crunchy". I'm happy to eat them fairly mushy. I know people did/do sometimes eat them in place of a cracker/bread - but that seems a bit dry and effortful to me.

Hi kezzy. It was a good food day - pity about the exercise - which I unintentionally turned into TV and chat yesterday. I need to remember that Friday now has about 2 1/2 hours more TV that I want to watch than other days and set myself up accordingly.

I live in Perth, a city on the west coast of Australia towards the southern edge.

Eeek! Mushrooms in this diary too?

I will have to hunt around for the mushroom friendly diary now! :D

I swear they have smiles on the caps here. :)
I dip moonlight mushrooms in Pizza sauce for a snack on occasion.

Weetbix = Lembas I think.
Yum! Great for dipping.

Weetbix taste like lembas I reckon. Just no leaves. :)

Breakfast 9:00 2 weetbix, 1/3 C diced peaches, 1C low fat soy milk. 1 slice wholemeal toast with minimal margarine and marmalade. (Edit: nope I forgot I changed the toast for the first time in ages - it was 1 crumpet and thin drizzle of honey - so no roughage here either!) Boiled egg. 1/2 c tomato juice. 1 C coffee with 40 ml Hilo milk.

Lunch:11:30 425 gm tinned asparagus. 6 dates.

Dinner:6:00 Pork fillet with grapes. 160 (?) gm lean pork, 60 gm grapes, onions, 1 tbspn margarine. 1/2 C basmati rice. 1 1/2 C salad - baby spinach, cucumber, tomato, mushroom, carrot, snow peas, balsimic vinegar.

Exercise: 4:45 30 minutes. 800 stairs. DNA tower. I jogged the first half of each climb. I am really noticing a big improvement in what I can manage on the stairs. The first 6 sets were much easier than before - it took the 7th to make me feel they way I did after just 1 at that speed a couple of weeks back. I didn't stay too long though as I just ducked in there on my way home from a family get together in the park where the tower is.

~8:00 30 minutes or so on body weight exercises. I increased the reps on 4 of them. 3 were starting to feel a bit easy. The planks still feel like they might kill me but I added a bit just because I was only doing 3.

Weight.
Well Saturday is my weigh day. For the first time since I started I actually gained 0.1 kg this week. That it is up a little bothers me less than that it is not down a bunch!! Last week I lost only 0.2 kg. I am not quite sure about this. I'm still not sure that I haven't just weighed myself at the wrong time of day 2 weeks in a row. On the other hand if I've made some unsuitable changes without noticing I need to know that. I guess I will have to do some math to find out. I know we need to adapt a bit as weight drops. Maybe this is a time for me to do that - or maybe it's just one of those times when I need to be patient and ignore the scales for a bit. I redid my measurements just in case it's the second - I have only done them once before and that was a while back (17 March), so I can't get anything from them today - but maybe they will tell me something next week.

Left upper arm (9.5cm from inside elbow): 32 was 32.5 cm.
Bust: 102.5
Waist (narrowest): 89 cm was 96 cm
Waist (belly button): 96 was 105 cm
Hips (13 cm from b/b line down side): 108 was 111.5 cm
Hips (at leg band): 107 from 113.5 cm
Left thigh (largest point): 61 was 67 cm

At least they have gone down. I knew they actually had - just not sure my measuring would show that - I so distrust my ability to measure accurately.

Felici, are you weighing yourself at the same time each time? If not, you might get more consistent results doing that. I think the best time is right when you get up.

*shudders* vegemite i heard about that stuff and i heard u can buy it here(states) in some places.. Ill pass on the shrooms.. But here in the house everyone loves them.. I just dont like eating fungus but other ppl probably wouldnt eat cow intestines.. :) Back to the vegemite oh i heard about the wonderful taste (laughs) but i suppose if u have grown up on it, u do aquire the taste for it..

The wieght gain could be muscle mass, might be time to change the calories to fit ur weight now.. my dietician said to weigh urself at the same time and do it in the morning after ur first morning urination.. My dietician said dont worry if there is a little weight gain its more then likely muscle mass once u start to work out and it seems ur on a good work out schedule..

Keep up the good work hun

No. I haven't been doing that. I chose not to buy new scales, and to weigh myself away from home which makes it hard to weigh first thing in the morning the way I would usually. With scales in my house I have been known to do the thing where you weigh yourself 5 times a day and shift the scales around the house hunting for the best spot etc .... Not having them took a lot of angst out of the early days for me - but it also means I can't do the 5 day rolling average thing which I'm sure would be the most accurate measure.

Up till now I have been trying to measure the weight at a time which will still have other aspects that will affect it, staying fairly even from week to week. I'm not sure that this has happened lately though. I am certainly planning for next Thursday and Friday to be both high in roughage and high in activity. (Hopefully that is both sufficiently informative and sufficiently delicate).

Really vegemite is just salty. However, yes you can acquire a taste for it. Since I started this food plan, if I have a piece of toast I put jam (jelly) on it. (Except currently it's marmalade, because I accidently opened a jar of that instead of jam.) When I was eating more food though, if I ate 2 pieces of toast I would have one of jam and one of vegemite. In fact I would probably have 2 just so that I could make one of them vegemite! I am dinky di at heart. :)

You picked the one thing I could never manage there! :D I eat offal (at least I did - not on my list these days). It's not the idea that puts me off - it is the smell and texture of tripe. Good luck to you with that one. :)

Mushroom Friendly Diary - try Mal's ;)

I'm just a picky old thing - don't mind me!
:D
It's kind of interesting to find out how many people are on your side here! :) I had never really thought about mushroom as being a different type of organism to other edible plants, though of course it is. :)

Thanks Autumn. I do know that this might be a non-issue. Probably it is in fact. It's just that off hand I recall being more relaxed about my food lately and clearly remember a couple of over the top meals so I feel the need to check.

There have been a few times lately when I've thought that I really need to start counting calories now. My idea of the calories in my day has actually been very rough for most of the days so far. I don't want to change my food and just count them now - but will add on calorie counting to what I do. I don't think I have enough tools to be very scientific about how many calories I burn though - still I'm thinking this is worth a go. At the very least it will make me a bit more knowledgeable.

I don't really know if my exercise program is the kind that would have built much extra muscle in the last fortnight either. I suppose it could have because that is what I want - I just doubt I have been able to take it far enough for that to happen.

Whatever, I have some time so I will do some math with it today, and for the next week, so that I can deal with this in a more informed way. Having done that I will then probably forget about it till next Saturday.

Hey you - Im sorry to hear you gained a bit...sometime that happens...maybe you are building some muscel from all the other new exercise you are adding - I knwo Tae Bo will make you start building muscel...anyway I am sorry you gained a bit and I am sorry I dont have to much more supportive to say abt that - lol

Felici, these are the steps I take to get consistent measurements from the scale every time:
1) wake up
2) go to the bathroom
3) shave
4) trim my nose and ear hair
5) cut my nails
6) take off all clothes
7) burn some incense for the scale gods
8) make a burnt offering of chicken legs to GOM
9) take my colonic
10) cross my fingers

I get good results 63.2% of the time!

Thanks for the messages Cerella and Tom. :) The scales are dodgy little beasts I know and maybe should just be left off playing in the wild...

Be that as it may I did some calculations anyway:

As far as I can tell my calories for last week were:
1395 + 1338 + 1295 + 1382 + 1549 + 1176 + 2080 = 10215
and extra exercise was:
430. + 440. + 442. + 404. + 376. + 290. + 0.000 = 2382
Per day the deficits were:
1140 + 1207 + 1252 + 1127 + 932. + 1219 + 25 = 6902 (or an average of 986/day)

I estimate my BMR at 2105 / day and my weekly deficit at 4519 - 2382 or a deficit of 985 cal / day or -5.6 calories per pound. Typical individual days are -7.15 / day at the most.

I'd say this means I ought to be losing weight, I am not depriving myself of necessary calories and can afford to do about twice as much exercise as I did that week. So basically as far as I can see the numbers are ok and I will just keep on doing what I have been - maybe a bit more exercise but I won't sweat that either. :)

I am not going to look back any further than that, but I will try and do the calories each day from now on, more for the general education than anything perhaps, and so it doesn't take me half a day if I want to do this again. :) It is interesting to see how much difference some small changes might make. Oil, cream and coconut calories were pretty amazing.
