The mind is the enemy

Thanks, ladies! I forgot to say I ran five slow miles on Saturday. My hip was acting up towards the end, so I spent some time both Saturday and Sunday stretching. It didn't bother me during the hike except for right when we started, which was after a thirty minute car ride.

Dinner last night was homemade chicken parm with homemade noodles. A little heavy, but we typically eat breakfast and one big meal on weekends. Oh man, breakfast was a potato hash with a fried egg on top, covered in sriracha.... SO GOOD! The egg wasn't runny enough but the one bite that had runny yolk all over it was amazing. I told G we would be roasting potatoes way more often now.

Another four mile run in the books. I did six sprints, a quarter mile each. I call shenanigans on how fast my app says I did them, because I could not possibly have lived through those if I had.

Yesterday's eating was blah blah blah. I've been feeling kinda PMS-y even though I'm not. Tired and moody and always wanting chocolate. Weird. I had cheez-its yesterday before lunch, all of my stash of chocolate covered edamame after lunch, and a bit of a binge while my man friend was in the shower. Two spoonfulls of this cookies and cream spread straight from the jar, one mochi, and one BabyBel cheese. Calorie-wise that binge could have been way more terrible, but the emotions and actions were the same as any of my worse binges. Also, the mochi is covered in some white powdery stuff, and I looked down as I was halfway through to discover my shirt, pants, and the couch were covered in it. So much for being sneaky, huh?

Anyway, I avoided any drinks and put myself to bed before nine (without a snack, which is a win for me). I'm not feeling crave-y today, so good decisions will be made! Already has, actually, with this morning's run.

Nice run! Sorry about the food cravings. I would pay attention on when you feel cravings vs. days that you run. Maybe it's a legitimate need for more calories that just needs to be redirected or maybe you feel more anxiety when you haven't ran?

That's a really interesting observation, Q. I go through spurts of carefully tracking exercise, food, tummy problems, moods etc, and I'd love to be consistent enough to actually find use of that data. I'd read recently about how your body kind of naturally resets itself over a couple of days, too.... Not over the course of hours as we probably tend to picture it. So a heavy lunch won't necessarily mean you won't want dinner tonight or a big breakfast tomorrow, but you might realize you have little appetite the following evening.

Gosh, I could have written this post. I'm glad I"m not the only one who deals with binges every now and then. Well done for managing yours. It could have been a lot, lot worse. You do so much exercise, I doubt you do much damage with a sneaky feast like that. Or not so sneaky in the case of the mochi's white powder. Maybe he thought you were doing coke or something pah.

The view from your hike was GORGEOUS. Also your blog has inspired me to start running springs. Mmm.

Does anyone here eat dried peaches? The ones I have taste good, but they smell like I envision my little brother's feet smelling after a shift as a postman. It's bad enough to prevent me from buying them again because I'm worried about what people think I'm doing when they walk by my cube during snack time.

Either your little brother is a postman or that is a very elaborate metaphor.

I haven't had dried peaches, but lots of dried fruit are preserved with sulfur dioxide so they don't smell so great. The unsulfered ones look ugly, but smell like fruit.

:iagree: with what Q said. Also: the unsulfured ones taste better, but that may just be scent influencing my brain.

I am happy to report that he is, indeed, a postman and that my imagination isn't that twisted. At least not in the area of food!

Is the sulfur dioxide listed as an ingredient? I don't have the bag for the peaches anymore, but I checked another item in my pantry and the only ingredient is the fruit. I haven't opened it up to do a smell test yet.

Really I just need to bust out my dehydrator again. Dried plums were my fave of my first batch of fruit. I'm going to do zucchini next time, too.

Just finished up a little bit of yoga and a little bit of ab work. Didn't do as much as I maybe could have, but I'm still happy I did something! Especially because I did some non-cardio work on Monday. Twice in one week of doing anything besides running is rare in my world.

Tomorrow (Friday) I am planning a short run, and Saturday should be a longer run. We're hoping to get one night of camping in on Saturday at a nearby mountain, which would mean I'd get a decent hike in on Sunday. I LOVE CAMPING AND HIKING SEASON. And I'm glad it's finally here.

Something is better than nothing! I don't know if camping season has started here yet but I'm looking forward to it!

Mystic, I know of one campground that's first come first serve today through Memorial Day (the last Monday in May), so it's not quite camping season everywhere. I'm assuming we'll have no trouble getting a site but I've never gone without a reservation, so we'll see!

Got in a three mile run this morning, in 32:43. Had intended to keep it a bit shorter but I didn't map it out and also got a little turned around in an unfamiliar neighborhood. Thankfully I managed to get ready quickly afterwards and will still be on time for work.

Hey I ran 3 miles today too! Run twins! Also, if the screen happens to scroll to where just the cap of your acorn avatar is obscured then it looks like a booby.

Twinsies!!! This gave me a good chuckle when I read it yesterday. I confirmed your observation multiple times, hehe.

Six miles yesterday!! In one hour and 4 minutes. I picked a route that had absolutely zero hills, and I felt great. The first couple of miles are always tough for me. And then I found my groove.

Went camping last night. Slept terrible. But other than than it was awesome. I love sitting by a campfire at night. But after not getting sleep and the boyfriend kicking the heck out of a metal ring that was jutting out of the platform at our campsite we opted out of a hike today. His poor toe is black and blue and I am loopy and was ready for bed at like 5 pm.

Here's to a good week, everyone! Be healthy and happy!
