The big oak (Quercus) needs to drop some dead limbs!

Unfortunately, I am not representative of the typical hunter/gun owner in my country.
No, but I don't think you're atypical either. My experience has been that there's a lot of hunters out there like you who believe you absolutely have to be environmentally conscious in order to sustain and enjoy hunting. Some good environmental work has been done by people whose primary motivation was to protect and maintain habitats for fish and game so that folks can enjoy fishing and hunting. Maybe you see it more up north in places like Minnesota and Canada, but I think your attitude isn't uncommon even if it unfortunately isn't the majority.

I don't hunt myself, because I'm pretty sure the deer would win and it would have my head hanging up on it's wall. "You should have seen all the meat we got off of this one."

Hi Quercus

I thought that I would pop over and meet you since we are on the same team for the challenge...

I'm sorry that you are not feeling well. I hope that you are feeling much better soon.

Checking out your signature - you are doing really well with your project.

I think that our team will kill this challenge - we have such a lot of weight loss experience between us...

LOL - from what I can see San and I are not nearly as good as we would like at maintenance (being particularly experienced at gaining weight) - but we are brilliant at losing weight and that is what the challenge is all about.

Take care
Margaret

Hi Margaret! I'm excited about the challenge. I think we'll do well.

I'm finally feeling better. I'm still feeling crummy, but not too bad. I'm guessing that was a mild flu. I have been laid up and eating comfort food since last Wednesday night. I have no idea how I did on calories as I ate sporadically, but I ate like crap. I've got the little notebook back out today and I'm on target for 2,500 calories. I'll be exercising soon, but I'm still achy and weak today.

I'm sure that we will do brilliantly.

I'm pleased that you are feeling better. Hopefully the aches will ease soon to get you back to exercise.

Well done for counting calories... I haven't coaxed myself back to counting yet... I suspect that I will be counting something soon though... I'm having enough difficulty convincing myself that I want to calculate my water and drink enough of that...

2,250 calories today.

Much easier to get full on 2,500 calories when you don't drink wine or beer. Day 7 on the wagon.

I've started using the fitday app on my smartphone and it makes recording calories easy and I'l have my exercise on there as well.

I think I'll have the start of the contest be my first weigh-in. I'm nervous about it. I don't know how much holiday weight I packed on and I ate poorly while sick too. We'll see Friday.

Alcohol is a hard one. Because of what it is (sugar essentially) there's no such thing as diet alcohol. You can try and limit the filler calories, but then you're stuck drinking nasty stuff like rum and diet coke.

As much as it may not seem like it with my occasional drunk posting, I'm almost entirely a social drinker. I may have a beer if I think it would go particularly well with a dinner (steaks usually) but counting that 140 calories is easy. It's going to the bar with a friend that can get me in caloric trouble. But fortunately I don't do that enough to get me in too much trouble.

The exercise that you'll be doing today, riiiiight? Hopefully you're nodding your head in agreement. lol! Good luck with the competition! :)

Hey, just stopped by to wish you luck with your weight loss!! & and well done on the weight loss so far! keep up the good job!

21 minutes stationary bike moderate resistance as fast as I could maintain.

This was enough to soak my hair and about half my shirt as well as leave small sweat puddles on the mat below. My rear hurts.

calories today 2,330

377 calories burned according to my handy dandy app (skeptical)

Add 5 struggling pushups to that.

Thanks Jen, Tasha, Steve, and Justina!

2,201 in calories today (well under 2,500 goal)

30 min stationary bike same resistance as yesterday.

My app says I burned 539 calories on the bike.

I slept terribly last night and I'm hoping tonight will be better. I was wired after the work out. I still have a sinus headache and earache on the left side so I took nyquil before bed and still couldn't sleep. I finishd exercising about an hour earlier tonight. Hopefully that will make a difference. I also bought a new pair of padded bike shorts which changed the pain to a mostly a tingling. :leaving:

I think I'll weigh myself tomorrow so I can have an idea of my weight loss goal for Friday. I have no idea where my weight is, but I'm feeling pretty good.

Well I'm gonna sleep like a baby tonight knowing the status of your ass has moved to "tingling". haha!

Seriously though, how do you not sleep with NyQuil?! I'm pretty sure I'm like 3/4 dead, and drooling all over when I take that stuff. It's not pretty..haha! Hopefully you sleep tonight. Good luck weighing in tomorrow! :)

Keep up the biking, Quercus. I know from experience that the pains from sitting on a bike get less as you do it more.
Let's call what you have now tingletush.

It took me a while to get to sleep, but not nearly as bad as the night before. Nyquil has always knocked me out in the past.

342.4 this morning

The weigh-in was high (+4.6 from pre xmas). The good news is that I always see a gain when I start exercising, so I don't think I've actually lost any ground in fat loss. I measured my belly and it's at the same measurement as the lower weight. I'm pleased and the biking gets me a little sandbagging for the contest. It's honest, so I don't know that it is really sandbagging. It beats going on a food binge to elevate the numbers. I feel better outside the buttal region and it's doing okay.

My game plan is to tie my bike reward into the contest. So 299.2 by good Friday (10 weeks). That's 50 lbs from my start weight and hopefully a half way point to having a < 40" belly measurement. I also plan to try to exercise every day of the contest with a major focus on my spin bike to prepare me for the real deal. It also helps that the spin bike is the sole means of working out indoors without a trip to the out of town gym.

No caffeine after lunch in case that has been messing with my sleep. I think I'm just in flux with the new cardio and not drinking in the evenings. I do not miss drinking in the least. The bike makes me feel better than the vino and beer ever did and I still feel good the next morning.

YAY for the biking!! You are doing well!!! Yeah sometimes i find that when i start excercizing i put on a bit of weight in the beginning/at some point OR scale doesnt move...I like to put it down to water retention or muscle gain!! :) the more muscle you have the more calories you will burn!

Keep it up!!
