The big oak (Quercus) needs to drop some dead limbs!

Cool simulator! Most of the math looks to be in the second PDF on that site, but it's beyond my interest in dusting of my old stats text to decipher. Geek out buddy! It's working. Data are our friends.

I realized today that I'm eating the calories that a much slimmer man of my height and age needs to maintain his weight. One widget tells me that this man would be more than 100 pounds lighter than me.

So what you ask?

I'm done! I just have to keep doing what I'm already doing and that guy will show up eventually. I can't wait to meet him. :)

I did some dumbbell work and road my stationary bike for a while.

Great work getting started back into the exercise :)

if you have any lifting questions just ask :D

Well, he's kind of a prick. He's always skipping out on the tab and hitting on your girlfriend. Always calling you up at 2 in the morning asking for rides home. Those thin bastards always get away with so much more just because they are good looking. :D

Thanks Coach! That was strictly messing around. Just getting back to being in motion. I'll start a Rippetoe or Starr routine when I'm ready to "really" lift.

Dang it MrVee! I'm already so good looking that I might want to reconsider the weight loss. I'm going to go order some pizzas before this gets out of hand.

Oh yeah, also 336.4 -12.8 this AM

Well I'm out to the field today. Been cooped up in the office since last Friday and I'm ready to get out and stretch my legs in the cold woods. It supposed to be an easy day, but we'll see.

If you can't tell from my posts I'm feeling great! I'm new, so you wouldn't know, but I'm not someone that would generally be described as chipper, but I'm high on life (and sugar free red bull).

Thanks Jen! I like your new profile picture. It must be nice to look thin even from a headshot. All your hard work has really paid off.

Not much to report this morning.

Yesterday's field work was easy.

My scale just flashed a low battery this morning so no weigh in.

I hit slightly below 2,500 calories yesterday, but I had a lot of sodium and I'll drink a lot of water today to try to flush that out.

I didn't exercise yesterday, but I will this evening.

Fresh batteries in the scale.

I'm at 1,800 calories, but I may eat a little more.

Did a bunch of empty bar hang cleans to try to figure out my form.

Deadlifts (poundsxrepsxsets)

135x5x2 DOH (Double OverHand grip)

225x5 DOH

315x5 MG (Mixed Grip)

That's it. It felt good. I've tried resting the sciatica and that hasn't worked. The back feels tight, but not bad at all.

baby steps

It should be a full day of field work tomorrow unless we get rained out.

342.2 -7 lbs

I knew I'd go up in weight after lifting as that has always happened, but up nearly six pounds is really disappointing.

The good news:

I have not overeaten once since I've started.

My belly measurement was unchanged from the last measure.

I finally put a barbell back in my hands.

Off to the field!

I decided to have my first cheat meal tonight.

I seared strips of round steak in rice wine vinegar with cumin, chili powder, garlic salt, and cilantro. I ate it on steamed corn tortillas with queso fresco. Not a particularly unhealthy meal except for the portions and wine! It was delicious! Now back on track.

That sounds like a very nice meal to me. Beats my cremated rice and garlic meal the other night.

I'm the king of experimental cooking gone very wrong. Tonight was an exception. I once burned rice so badly to a pot that I decided to try and burn it completely out using kerosene after steel wool scrubbing didn't work. I used little kerosene (good idea) but I heated it under a gas burner before lighting it (not as good of an idea). It worked and we still use the pot, but my wife always reminds me of how dumb of an idea it was.

My culinary advice:

If your eyebrows grow back and you can use the pot again, it's a success!

Yeah I used the same pan for tonight's successful (pretty much) pork and rice dish as the burnt rice dish from the other night. The burnt rice and garlic all came up really easy, but these are pretty good non-sticks. I average about one cooking fail a month.

338.8 -10.4 total

I wouldn't be surprised to see a slight rebound as I was probably a bit dehydrated this AM.

I enjoyed myself last night and definitely went over calories with dinner/Bogle Zinfandel. I'm back on track this morning with lots of water and a healthy brunch.

No change in belly measurement in several days, but -3" for week one.

336.4 -12.4 pounds and another inch lost on my belly for a total of four inches lost.

I'm still .4 pounds over my 12/12 weight, but I'm smaller around than then. I've started a spreadsheet and I'm calculating BF% based on the marine waist/neck ratio. It's not very accurate but it is easy and repeatable. The belly measurement is also important because it's tied to elevated health risk and I will be using that as a guide for setting my long term goal weight.

>40" is the measure for men that is associated with increased health risk especially coupled with a high BMI.

I've got a long way to go. Hopefully with the use of trending graphs I can have an idea of what weight a <40" waist will be for me, but I'll need a lot more data first.

I suppose I can say that my ultimate weight loss goal is to have <40" waist at the navel.

Keep up the good work Mighty Quercus.

I have great difficulty measuring myself, but I suppose maybe I could start with waist measurements. I know what size pants I wear, but that's not necessarily an accurate reflection of my waist.

337.8 -11 no change in belly measure

I'm ready for the weight to start back in the right direction. I would really like to have a significant drop this week as next week will be challenging. I'll be traveling after Christmas so it won't be just Christmas day that's a challenge.

The temptations have already started with cookies, fudge, and cracker mix in the break room. I wish my field work hadn't just got cancelled. I had a bit of the spicy cracker mix, but I can fit it into today's calories.
