The big oak (Quercus) needs to drop some dead limbs!

Congrats on the loss for the challenge so far! :)

Any further thoughts on your roadbike? When you'll get it, or what model etc?

Steve

340.4 -8.8 total -4.6 for the WL Challenge

I'll get my hour in today. I'm not sure how as it's cold, wet, and windy and my rear wants a bike break, but I'll do it.

Thanks Xenon! I won't be doing the fasted cardio again anytime soon. Yuck!

Thanks Steve, it looks like everyone is off to a nice start.

I'll get the road bike at 299.2 which is the goal I will reach by end of contest.

I've only shopped online as my rural area has one bike shop 40 minutes away with terrible hours. I'm not looking for a traditional road bike, but more of a more road bike like hybrid. The Trek FX2 disc looks like a winner and it comes in a large frame size. The 1 bike shop has Trek. I may drive to a proper city to get one once I reach the goal. That means a 2.5 hour drive one way minimum, but we can turn it into a weekend getaway. I work with a cyclist who's brain I intend to pick as well.

Hey you, have eaten yet? lol. hope so!! :D

You are doing well with you exercise!

Isn't it exciting to research your new bike? Great motivation!!

I've been eating about 2,200 cals a day with a 2,500 max.

Exercise for today is over 2 hours of tree cutting. We've been in a drought and a lot of trees died. I took care of 2 snags, felled 3 others, and cut up some logs and brush tops. I'm exhausted.

I ate right at 2,500 calories today. I think working so hard in the cold really upped my appetite. I feel like I cheated even though that is the calorie goal for losing 2 pounds a week and that doesn't take into account the exercise. Good night forum, sweet dreams!

341.0 today. I'm not surprised as I am sore. Sore usually means water retention for me and lets just say I had no digestive assistance yesterday.

The good:
Sleeping has been great the last few days! I'm going to sleep easily and waking up feeling better. I would say that before I started to make changes I felt kind of hung over in the morning regardless of whether or not I had drank. Now I'm waking easier and more fully. I also woke up earlier than usual this weekend when I have no alarm clock set.

The challenges:
My biggest hurdle is trying to get an hour of exercise in after work. With the weather cold and the days short I'm left with my spin bike in the house, my weights in an uninsulated shed, and doing something outside in the dark and cold. The cold air kills my asthma, so I don't even consider it too seriously. I'm thinking a 1/2 hour on the bike will warm me up and I can spend the other half lifting in the cold. The worst is the cold bar in my hands.

My wife has agreed to go back to the gym with me and she has started tracking her calories/weighing/measuring. That will solve exercise problems on the nights we go. I'm super pleased that she is taking the initiative and I'll let her choose the gym frequency as I don't want her to feel that I'm pushing her. I'll get my exercise in regardless.

TL/DR?...I'm still fat, but I already feel much better. It's difficult to exercise in the cold, but I will. My wife is losing weight too!

Yay Quercus - that's great news!

Have you thought about looking up some exercise on youtube? that's what i do. Streching/weights? these dont need much space or equipment.

That's awesome! I got my husband into exercising too! lol! he wants to lose weight too - but he needs to lose only about 20 lbs...he already looks slim anyway, just have a little belly.

Have a great week Quercus! You are doing really coool!!! You are making real effort! It will pay off! :hurray:

Rod's started going to zumba with me on Wednesday and Saturday. He misses out a reasonable proportion of the moves but after 4 sessions says that he enjoys it. The teacher agrees that he will still be burning more calories than anyone in the room because he is over 300 pounds (at 5ft8).

Sometimes exercise options are not really obvious as being appropriate...

You might get to exercise more if you ask your wife which exercise options appeal to her and try out any and all to see if you like them... Anything that makes you move will burn calories.

Awesome advice from my awesome team members.

Justina, I have never really tried youtube for workouts. I have a DVd and a book somewhere. I need to dig them up. I forgot that I made a dumbell rack for inside as well. I need to get that set up and clear a space inside to use them.

Omega, my wife had some medical issues this past year and was necessarily sedentary for a large part of the year. Now she is feeling better and doing more. She has decided to get a bike along with me once she decides on a goal. That will make it a lot easier. She isn't as overweight as I am, but she is in worse physical shape. That's due mostly in differences in our jobs and her illness. The good news is that she is healthy now and ready for a change. I'll take some credit for that. ;)

I know it really helps me when my other half is sticking to his diet and exercise. Right now he's not, and it making for way too many temptations. I think it's great that your wife is going to join in on losing weight and exercise! Good for her! :)

I got my hour of exercise done. 10 minutes of hauling wood, 30 minutes spin bike, 20 minutes of dumbells, swiss ball, medicine ball, and calisthenics. Phone call between the wood hauling and the bike, but everything else was back to back.

Way under on calories, but I'm about to snack.

My wife was in the fastest reading group at one point in elementary and they were the cheetahs. All but one of the groups were an animal of some sort except for the slowest group. They were the sunflowers. "TL/DR" is for the sunflowers. Those reading at the speed of phototaxis. Also, grownups can be dicks sometimes.

340.8 -8.4 I've been sore since Friday. An hour every day is tougher than I thought. I'm wearing my Lucky brand jeans today. I bough Walmart wranglers when I got too big for my smaller clothes and it's nice to be back in my nice jeans. It has been over a year since I've been able to wear these. I couldn't button them when I joined this forum.

In the 4 days of the contest I've lost 4.2 pounds. I ate 2,385 calories yesterday as I went back and had a sandwich before bed. I shouldn't short myself on the calories working out this much, but I don't like eating a lot late as this was my key overeating time in the past and it's a stupid thing to do metabolically speaking. So this morning I added some food to breakfast to get in more calories early.

Weird and wonderful: I've been breathing through my nose for the last 4 hours. I can never do that. I have chronic sinus problems, allergies and a deviated septum. Even with nasal steroids I never could breath through my nose. Every once in a while I would clear up enough to breathe through my nose after a hot meal or shower, but it only lasted minutes. It would be so wonderful if this stays. I could exercise outdoors when it's cold without my asthma trying to kill me. I hope it lasts!
