The big oak (Quercus) needs to drop some dead limbs!

Thanks Omega. I know I'm doing well for the contest, but I can do better than this week's performance. I won't do anything extreme, just very aggressive in week 3.

Yeah the Diet Cokes are a challenge for me, but I've certainly cut back a little so far, which is a start.

I used to have a lot of diet cola, but found that if you try to drink 1 oz water per 2 pounds weight that you drink so much water that you dont have the room for too much of anything else... That really helped me to cut down...

I wouldnt really want to have none as I think that we all deserve a few vices, and I dont think that a limited amount does too much harm.

I drink a LOT of fluids. Today is typical aside from no diet drinks.

20 oz water when I woke
2 cups coffee
2 liters water
20 oz water

That's by 1PM for me and I've already put a dent in my second 2 liter bottle. Over a gallon of liquid. I'm not forcing myself to drink and I've only been to the restroom 3 times since 6AM. I may drink too much fluids. That's an indicator of diabetes. I've had blood sugars in the diabetic range years ago when I was near 400 pounds, but not on my latest checkup. Fluid intake might be something I need to start monitoring.

My husband used to drink diet soda like it was water. He used to get severe headaches. He stopped drinking them about a year ago. He completely cut it out from one day to the other. It made a big difference for him.
He now he almost never drinks it - his addiction is totally gone.

That is really rare...

Lots of people struggle when they try to go above about 100 oz or 3 litres and have to be mindful to get up to that... In fact I have ran several challenges where I have given half points if people drink at that level if they could not get up to the full calculated amount...

I know that when I lost weight I was really pleased every time that I could drink half a litre less...

I make it that you should be drinking about 5 litres...

You are mixing your measurement units... I guess that 5 litres is something like 4 litres plus about 32 oz. On days where you drink at the level that you mention that is a little more but not drastically... It depends how much more you go on to have later in the day...

Anyone that carries extra weight is wise to be on the lookout for diabetes... Our doctors like to mention that we have put ourselves into the danger zone... It can have all sorts of nasty consequences...

It is wise to have regular tests as you are doing - and it is interesting to note that the act of bringing your weight down to your current level has probably really helped your blood sugar situation... That seems to imply that you should keep right on doing what you are doing...

I do know that my husband developed all sorts of nasty kidney stone problems and gout problems (build up of uric acid crystals) and his consultant was very keen that Rod had not been having enough water for his size... Big people need more water to be healthy than a small person...

I had my first day without exercise yesterday, but it was unavoidable. I had an earache and my balance was completly off. I fell back against a post in our carport which stopped me from falling flat on my back. I had to have help walking. The ear still hurts but my balance is good.

I made up for it this morning as I rode an hour on the bike and went straight into an hour of walking. It doesn't get me the contest points, but it made me feel better.

Down another .4 this morning for 334.4lbs.

I'm doing it right this time and I realize that the scale or at least the measuring tape will be a constant part of my life from now on. Once I hit my goal weight (I don't even know what that is yet) I'll have to weigh once a week and/or measure my stomach to make sure I don't start to regain the fat and if I do, I will have to go back to recording calories and exercising more until it's back.

Part of a post I made in my contest thread that I wanted here as a reminder.

I know how hard it is to miss a day of exercise, but I am glad the bit of extra made your feel better :)

CAN totally relate - otherwise i ll end up yo-yo-ing the rest of my life. This is the third time I am doing this - not fair on my body/skin..or my emotional well-being..
I have tons of excuses why i gained the weight back...but they are no use. I have to accept that i put weight on easily & I have to control daily exercise & my weight more than others...

Hi Quercus,

Good job on your loss so far, and the changes you're making :)

I was in a similar position to you when I started, 6' 5, 350lbs, so will be keeping an eye on your progress!

All the best.

Syn.

Thanks Syn and congratulations on your amazing weight loss!

334.4 again today. I don't think I've ever weighed the same 3 days in a row. I'm in no way discouraged, it's just odd for me.

My father and I finished building a hog trap yesterday. The trap is left open so the hogs can come in an out and get used to it. The plan is to set the trap Friday and hopefully we will have hogs Saturday morning.

Feral hogs are a terrible problem in the south and up until this year they hadn't been on my parents' land. I will enjoy getting the wild meat as I did not kill a deer this year, but mostly it is a matter of trying to get rid of them. In November there was a nursery herd with 2 sows and around 20 piglets of the same size. There are clearly 3 distinct sizes of piglets in the nursery herd now 2 months later. Why they are such a problem is clear when you realize how quickly they have reproduced in the winter.

The good: 333.4 -15.6

The bad: sinus infection/earache/stomach problems so I didn't exercise again last night. I went to bed early. I missed on Friday because of it and got my exercise in Sat. and Sun., but yesterday I felt terrible. I'm not feeling great today either. Still 0 calories drank and I've been on for calories.

Be thankful that you live somewhere with access to the best health care system in the world. So hop in the car and drive down to Mexico to take advantage of it. :D

LOL @ MrVee!!

Quercus - hope you feel better soon!

I got bad sinus infection/throat problems ever since i got the flu shot last January (2012).
& got ear ache recently - it comes and goes... if i put something warm on it - tea pot - it goes away...
Actually it's like a have a cold ear - it sounds funny.. but i haven' had it for week now. so phew.

Anyway get well soon!!

My head has gotten worse. It now hurts at the back of my skull and down my neck and my jaw and ear still ache. The good news is that we had a full prescription of antibiotics that are used for sinus infetions so I took that and will be able to avoid the Dr. too.

No exercise tonight as I think my head would explode. Hopefully the antibiotics work quickly.

No calories drank and I will be good on my calories for today. I'm about to have a sesame vinegrette marinated grilled tofu sandwich with baby spinach and tomatoes.
