Hello all! Welcome to my diary :) I will be updating what I eat and how much I exercise.

Okay :) Technically 108 pounds to lose!

Female, 5 ft 7, 248 lbs.

Starting weight 248 lbs

Current weight 240 lbs

My goal weight 140 lbs

After spending a day browsing I realized that no carb diets are not for me! I will try not to eat too many but I think counting calories and eating healthy will work better for me than anything else.

I took a trip to the grocery store today and here is what I picked up:

Stir fry veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots)

Stir fry chow mein and Stir fry white rice

Cheerios

Black Beans

Extra Virgin Olive oil

Blueberries and blackberries

Soy sauce

Cottage Cheese

Few slices of Pepper Jack Cheese

Brown Rice

Vegan burger patties

Iceberg Lettuce

Whole wheat pasta

Organic Tofu

Whole grain wheat thins

I would like to know what you guys think of these diet foods? A lot of you have lost weight and are more experienced than I am so I would just like your opinions! I used to eat one or two full/big meals a day (and one late at night around midnight) I have decided I will not eat huge meals late at night anymore and that I will eat smaller meals through out the day opposed to two giant meals. I am thinking about working out for 40 minutes, 3 times a week to start.

My question for experienced dieters is this. I tried a weight loss calculator that mapped out how much I would have to restrict calories by in order to lose 100 lbs by 2013. This is the website: http://www.healthyweightforum.org/eng/calculators/calories-required/

After putting in my details it recommends that I start with eating 1,483 calories in week 1 in order to go down to 245.57, and so on. Here is the little chart below.

1483

245.57

My concern is that I don't know if I'll be eating 1,483 calories a day. I plan on eating cereal as my first meal with blueberries, blackberries, and maybe two wheat thins with cottage cheese. For lunch I plan on eating stir fry with tofu and for dinner just a vegan burger pattie with some brown rice and veggies. (and I plan to vary my diet in similar fashions for most days and have Chipotle burito bols without sour cream or guac, one time a week). I don't know if it will equal 1,483 calories a day but my question is , is it absolutely necessary to reduce caloric intake weekly to lose weight? Or can I just consistently keep eating how I plan to on the diet? I would hate to be off on the wrong foot so I would love your opinions based on your experiences!

General rules of my diet

- Follow outlined calories in chart

- No Bread (this is the hardest for me!)

- No Sugar (outside of fruit) this means no donuts, cake, ice cream, candy, sugary cereals Oh boy :(

- Never exceed 1400/1500 calories

- Try to work out 30 minutes or more daily

- No Soft Drinks (will be very tough for me!) not even diet soda

- No white rice (only brown)

- No fast food with the exception of Subway and Chipotle

- Absolutely no junk food

- Absolutely no fried foods. None.

I'm going to allow my self to have 1 day a week where I can have a little bit of bread , or white (instead of brown) rice. If I choose to!

Today was my official first day of my diet. It didn't start off exactly how I had hoped because I went grocery shopping late but I didn't eat badly. Here is what I ate today:

Day 1

- 5 or 6 purple grapes

- A burrito bol from Chipotle with Brown rice, black beans, fajitas, mild sauce, cheese, lettuce, and chicken.

Hey girly, your plan sounds awesome:) Thats so weird i am 5'7 too and started out at 249 pounds! Do you mind me asking what age you are? Also good luck losing the weight i know you will defo reach your target of 140 pounds:)

Lots of love xxx

Hi there! It is so weird indeed. I also noticed your target weight, super close to mine! :)

Great job on your weight loss so far! I don't mind at all, I'm 23 years old. How about you?

I would love to know what your diet is like! I will be checking in to see your progress, best of luck! You can do it.

Scary - I started a new diary on here today and the title is almost identical to yours :rotflmao:

I also have 100lbs+ to lose **sigh**

In answer to your question I think it depends really. I don't think you will need to reduce your calorie intake weekly from the very beginning, you should be ok maintaining your calorie intake combined with your exercise plan to lose weight...eventually though you may hit a plateu and when this happens you will then need to reduce your calorie intake and/or increase the amount of exercise you do. Everyone is different though but I would start with just maintaining like 1500cal intake daily unitl you stop seeing results then when that happens change it if that makes any sort of sense.

I wish you the very best of luck - I look forward to catching up with your progress x

Thank you Ski bunny!

I don't know if I will be able to fill 1,500 with the diet foods I bought. But I will try to find a way. Good luck on losing your designated amount :) best of luck!

Hi everyone! Thanks for the responses so far :)

DAY 2

Breakfast:

1.5 cups of Cheerios 150 calories

2 wheat crackers with cottage cheese 34.2 calories

small bowl of 5 blue berries, 3 blackberries, and 5 purple grapes Roughly 25 calories

Snack:

16 pretzel sticks 55 calories

Lunch:

Chow mein stir fry 100 calories

1 tblespoon Olive oil 120 calories

Organic Tofu 70 calories

Dinner (which I will have in about 3 hours):

Boca Burger 120 calories

1/2 cup of Black Beans 105 calories

Slice of Pepper Jack Cheese 70 calories

Side of pasta 300 calories

Pasta sauce 60 calories

5 baby carrots (not sure on how many calories that is I'll say about 30)

Basically I will have consumed 1239.2 calories by the end of today. Since I'm following the chart laid out in my first post, my goal was to consume around 1,483 calories but I think I came close. I thought it was smart to leave some room for calories that may have been miscounted.

I also worked out today for 30 minutes and burned about 302 calories. I really didn't want to work out and I was struggling since it had been a while since I've pushed hard. But I forced myself to do it! I'm a little worried that I'm eating too many carbs? Any experienced dieters have an opinion on this? And I wonder, has anyone used the website I have posted in my first post? I'm really relying on it to adjust my caloric intake I would hate if i'm eating too much?

Hey Success! Thought I'd stop by and welcome you to the forum! Thanks for posting on my page too...I need all the help I can get...and I do find alot of encouragement in these posts! My program is simple...not easy...but simple. I may or may not work for you...that's the good thing about this site..you can take what you like and leave the rest! The other great thing about this site is that you can say things and we all understand...you don't have to worry about being embarressed or ashamed...we've all on the same path...some of us have longer to go than others..but we're all going on the same journey!

My program:

1) No processed sugar sweets (if some comes in the main course type meals, then I take it, in limited quanties...but certainly no desserts!) The occasional fruit is OK

2) No eating after 6:00pm..only by exception now, but early on...none! And yes, that means that sometimes I don't get dinner.

3) No softdrinks (not even diet drinks). Plain Sparkling water OK...but not flavored waters or anything else that tricks my body into thinking it got something sweet!

4) Low carbs (I don't count calories...I've been around this game long enough to know what is "high carb, high cal") Not exactly Adkins but close to it..except I do have fruits and vegetables.

5) Weigh-in on the 1st of the month...not weekly..I do this because I can't stand the bad feelings that come with a little fluctuation and what if it goes up..however, I do have a mid-month tape measure check on bust, waist and hips, and I also do a BMI calculation.

6) Exercise for 1 hour each day (that means I have to get up at 5:00am and exercise from 5:15- 6:15, get dressed, eat breakfast and be ready to go by 7:30 to go to work...I normally don't get home at night until 7 or 7:30, so I'm pooped by that time and just want to veg out!

It's worked for me so far...like I said before, take what you like, and leave the rest.

If I can help you in any way, let me know...been exactly where you are and I can tell you it's not easy..but it is so worth it! I've been at it since 1 June 2011...here we are 7 months later and I've got about 53 more pounds to go until I get to 150...it is coming off a little slower than it did at the beginning...but it's still coming off...just takes discipline to stick with it.

I know you can do it..if I can, you can!

Sarah,

Thank you so much for your response! I think it's wonderful that you've stuck to something successfully for so long. Go you!!!

Your program seems doable and smart. I try not to eat any processed sweets either, but I do eat grapes, blueberies, and blackberries. I wish I had the discipline not to eat after 6 pm. My biggest problem use to be that I ate around 12 at night, and then lied in bed and watched movies. I now have decided I won't eat after 10 pm, which is still too late in the opinions of many but for me personally, it's an improvement! I am going to try to eat at 8:30 at the latest. I also have cut out all softdrinks! Super hard because I was a coke zero/diet coke addict but I've researched enough to know they are no good for diets. Sticking to water! I have my first weigh in this upcoming Monday. Getting anxious! But I can understand the psychology of wanting to wait a month. I think I would be so disappointed if I didn't lose the two pounds I was aiming to. My diet includes stir fry chow mein and stir fry with tofu. Also some pasta and some rice, I don't think mine is exactly low carb! I salute your resolve and working out each day for an hour! I was going to try to work out 3x a week to start, but you've inspired me to maybe take on 7x a week! But I will definitely be starting at 30 minutes a day.

I appreciate your offering help and advice! I will definitely ask if anything pops up :) Look forward to tracking your journey more! Great job so far.

Day 3

1 cup cheerios 100 Calories

1/2 cup purple grapes about 45 Calories

2 wheat thins with cottage cheese 34.2 Calories

179.2 Calories

Lunch:

Chow mein stir fry/stir fry veggies 160 Calories

1 Vegan Boca Patty 70 Calories

1/2 cup brown rice 300 calories

2 Tablespoons Salsa 15 Calories

Little bit of cilantro 0 calories or under 1

1 slice pepper jack cheese 70 calories

5 baby carrots 30 Calories

470 calories

All together it comes out to about 1079.2 , my goal is to eat around 1300-1400 in my first weeks of dieting. So I might eat a snack if I get hungry. I really did not want to work out today. Wanted to stay on my bum and watch the last episodes of season 2 of Boardwalk Empire (so behind) but I forced myself. Was not a good day on the elliptical it used to be so easy for me but I haven't been working out in so long until yesterday, I struggled, out of breath so easily. Instead of stopping when it becomes too much, today I got off the elliptical and power walked in my basement followed by running 20 laps and getting back on the elliptical. I only burned 150 on the elliptical today, but did other exercises and I hope to do crunches at night.

Well done you on doing some exercise even though you were allergic to the thoughts of it!! Your calories are great, like you said you could afford to eat some more, especially since your exercising too:)

Ps your food sounds so yummmay:)

well done success:)

Ahhhh! Can't fight this craving, it's 1 am!

Opened my fridge and I was so tempted to grab a slice of pizza, soo tempted!! Instead settled for wheat thins and a slice of cheese. A total of 190 calories. Which brings the total calories of day 3 to 1269.2. Not bad but I need to learn to fight the cravings.

Thank you Irish! Off to a well start today :) don't want to work out but going to bring myself to! hope you're having a blessed day doll.

Day 4...so far

Breakfast:

1 cup cheerios 100 Calories

1/2 cup purple grapes about 45 Calories

2 wheat thins with cottage cheese 34.2 Calories

179.2 Calories

Lunch:

Stir fry veggies 75 Calories

1 Tablespoon Olive oil 120 Calories

Organic Tofu 70 Calories

Soy Sauce 15 calories

280 Calories

5 baby carrots 30 Calories

Slice of Pepper Jack Cheese 70 Calories

3/4 cups of Pasta 200 Calories

Pasta sauce 45 calories

Little bit of Cilantro 1 Calorie

571 Calories

My total calories for the day are about 1,030.2 I think the count will go up because I might get hungry and snack. It's hard to reach 1,483 calories or even around 1,400 when you're eating healthy foods!!! Didn't want to work out today. Found out I didn't get the job I was hoping to... so I was especially down :( managed to walk for 35 minutes and burn 100 Cals on the elliptical.

Feeling hungry and need to up my calories anyway! Grabbed some crackers w/ cheese. 240 Calories. and about 10 pretzels around 40 Calories. 1310.2 Calories in total.

Hey there success! Love the name btw.

Looks like you're doing great. My only suggestions is to make sure you eat at least 1200 calories a day. I think it's a consensus that any less than that and your body will go into starvation mode where your body actually starts holding onto fat instead of burning it. This will slow your weight loss down. I know it may seem hard to get up to that much, but trust me you can!

Just wanted to say nice going avoiding the pizza and opting instead for the 190 calorie option. It must have been tough, but you did an awesome job!

Thanks so much Munch! :)

I definitely hear you on the 1,200 calories. I'm trying to get up to 1,400, I'll have to find a creative and healthy way! I think I'm going to start weighing in weekly instead of daily. It's messing with my mind! This morning my scale showed that I weighed 140! From 148!! then this evening it showed that I weighed 143! , I mean either is a nice drop from 148 and I've only been dieting for 3 days, but it's tricky! and disheartening! I'll visit your page soon to see how your day was! :)

pretty gloomy day for me today :( been feeling a little lazy... don't feel like working out and I think the weigh-in daily thing is just disheartening for me!! I should wait to weigh in weekly...

i'm out of a job and can't seem to find one in this economy :( in addition to that so many family problems... life can be hard sometimes. Been eating right today but this is the first time since i started my diet (started only a few days ago though, ha) that i actually felt like slipping up. It sucks how our moods and spirits can effect our dieting...

Day 5

Breakfast:

1 cup Cheerios 100 Calories

2 wheat thins w/ low fat cottage cheese 34.2 Calories

1/2 cup purple grapes 45 Calories

1/2 cup skim milk 45 Calories

224.2

Lunch

Stir fry noodles 140 Calories

Organic tofu 70 Calories

soy sauce 15 Calories

1 Ritz cracker 16 Calories

1 Tblespoon Olive Oil 120 Calories

361 Calories

Dinner I plan to have

1 Boca Vegan patty 70 Calories

1/2 cup brown rice 300 Calories

Little bit of Mozz. cheese 60 Calories

Salsa or tiny bit of pasta sauce 15 Calories

baby Carrots 30 Calories

475 Calories

Snacks:

Pretzels 50 Calories

Crackers w/ cheese 380 Calories

Total: 1490.2 (finally I'm around my goal of 1,483!

I will eat some snacks after dinner to up my calories. Feel =/ first day without working out.

Hey Success,

Don't give in...no matter what! My guess is what you are feeling is the reminants of that sweet, gooey, high sugar, high carb stuff that was in your system is crying out for more..and wanting to tell your brain to replenish the stock. I have no facts to back that feeling up, so take my opinion for what it's worth...not that much...but that's my story and I'm sticking to it! Hormones, sugar...I think it all goes together!

I've found the best thing to do on days like this, is go out and take a brisk walk...either outside or on the treadmill to get the positive energy flowing (hard to be hungry when you're moving!) After a walk, you might consider getting a pad of paper and a pen and making a list of the things you blame yourself or God, or others in your life about your weight...and see, perhaps for the first time, if you are harboring any resentments that cause you to "eat at them"... I did this one time (I should do it again!) and it was amazing to me how many people in my life I "ate at" because I blamed them for things that weren't going right for me at the time. It's not something to show those persons...it's for you, not them! I found that for me, I had to "let go" of those resentments and all the feelings of blame that went with them...only then could I start living my life for me...and not them..to include my diet and choices I make. Not sure if it will work for you, but it did help me...this whole weight thing for me is just as mental as it is physical!

Good luck, and remember, don't slip up...you're so worth it!!
