Sparrows Experiment

Ohhh yes it was sooo good. I need to now find a recipe and make that stuff in bulk.

Well I found an online site thats actually pretty darn good for a 20 week half ironman training. I'm not sure I've actually spelled this out, but my intent is to do the March 29th half in Oceanside (San Diego). I'm shifting my focus to things I'd like to just finish and feel good completing, rather than things I know i can do but throw expectations on. I have a friend who did it last year and has sworn to me that I'd survive :D Anyway, this site is great because it assumes you have a good endurance base already, that you've done a few olympic tris before, some half marathons etc. Basically that you're not BRAND NEW. I think the prereq's are that you can swim a 60 min (or 3000yd) workout, bike 1.5 hrs and run 60 min (not all in one shot) comfortably. So I'll try it out. I hate to sign up for things ahead of time because my life is soo unpredictable so if I miss it because it fills up too fast I'll just shoot for another one in the spring. There are loads, but Oceanside is supposed to be pretty darn cool, and very very professional. I'll feel like a little fish...no more like the pond scum, in a HUGE pond...which is exactly what I'm looking for.

In the meantime I'm still planning on the Oct 7th half marathon...even though I can't seem to get past 6 miles lately. lol. Do you think that might be a problem?

PS dinner didn't keep me full...duh

Sounds like a good goal. How old are your kids? Mine are all 5 and older, so while they are busy, the sleep well lol.

Mine are 4, 6 and 8 so you'd think I'd be sleeping great by now but the 4 yr old has night terrors and walks in her sleep...then wakes up and gets very scared. The 6 yr old is just restless and makes noise so I'm always checking on him, and the 8 yr old sleeps like a log. Its mostly the 4 yr old that keeps us up. We play musical beds all night. I rarely sleep in my own..or if I do, I never end up there by morning.

Today was a day off and my legs are sore so it was a good day to take off. The weather is so mild today, its making me very very happy. We also decided today we're going to rip up our carpet and put hard wood down sometime within the month. That makes me even HAPPIER. I've wanted that for a long long time.

This is a pic of my son ian after a long swim yesterday. he's the best.

Intense spin class...thought I was going to throw up a few times!
1 mile run (all I had time to sqeeze in before I coached) progressive sprint

Everything felt good today. Lots of energy and motivation

Hardwood floors rock - you'll just have to get something to deaden the acoustic so it won't sound like you're living in a cave. :)

lol I know, thats the part I don't dig so much, that means some big area rugs and more stuff on the wall-$$ cha-ching. I'm still happy tho ---> :D

FF he'll have you know those are sponge bob goggles, and no, they won't fit big people eyes so don't go looking-I know you want to. ha. He also has the same pair in black and they are batman goggles...my favorite ones. He looks stelth when he wears them with his black swim jammers..like a water ninja

I went back to the gym tonight. I'm only posting for my own records. I did 3 miles 8:30 pace on the tread, 15 min eliptical level 12 and some bi/tri weights. I only went cause my husband went and thought we could go "together" lol. Like we ever actually work out together. I guess he likes the idea of us being there at the same time. haha. It was packed. I'm so glad mornings are my normal time. Plus then i had major munchies for bad food. I came home and had like 1/2 cup real ice cream and a few fruit loops. lol.

Good workout day. I'm still a bit sore from just upping the ante a bit lately but I love it. I could feel my muscles working and though they were sore, they weren't fatiguing.

45 min HARD spin class. The instructor was amazing-not my regular one
20 min sprints and sprint drills
20 min continuous swim
15 min core (planks, push ups, crunches, bicycles etc)

I didn't count my laps on the swim. I had a certain amt of time and just decided to swim, to swim. The sprints were great. We went in groups of 2, 5 sec apart and my goal was to beat the group in front of me :) I did it a few of the times. Shins flared a bit after sprinting, but it was worth it

Thank you Tom,

I have wanted to go back in my diary to find this time last year for a while now..just so I can see just how far behind I am on my running schedule for the half marathon. I did the same half last year.

I was happily surprised to see that my long run at this point was about 7-8 miles at 9min pace. I'm right about there for the mileage and I've been able to hold 8 min pace pretty regularly lately. I was also happy to see running workouts that I'd do and be WIPED OUT from, that I can do now no big deal.

Very encouraging

wow!! we are sooo in tune. i wrote my workout before i read yours. check it out. I'm keeping up with you "today"

totally cool. Even the run pace. Not competeing I'm just saying.

sure glad my swimming was yesterday, and I had time to mentally recover, cuz I would have read your account of the swim and broke down. hahahhaa

Hee hee I dunno - not that I've ever met Katie, but from what I've read of her diary she seems like an athlete (who's a friend of a friend) I was introduced to earlier this year. My friend said of her - she's the nicest person you ever want to meet, but when that gun goes off, her eyes fill with blood and the claws come out lol.

:D lol I'd like to meet that friend Tom! AT a race. he he he *insert evil laugh here*

Another good day.

45 min HIIT type interval spin class
30 min back/chest/leg weights

It wasn't a huge hard workout but i did push my spinning quite a bit. starting tomorrow, I'll be out of town till Sunday due to my 10th anniversary :D We're taking the mountain bikes because its quite "mountainous" where we're going and I plan on running a bit. I won't be lacking for workouts upon my return.

I'm currently eating my weight in stir fried chicken. Am I the only freak who actually craves chicken? I could seriously eat it morning noon and night. I really like the stuff and for some reason if you actually do happen to "binge" on it (though how you'd binge on chicken, I"m not quite sure!) it never makes you feel bad or "bloated" or gross or whatever.

I forgot to write that yesterday we had a contest at the end of tri class to see who could hold a plank the longest (on elbows) I went up to 5 minutes and didn't win! There is this woman with serious abs of steel (not to mention she can hardly even weigh 100 pounds) who beat me. I'm sure feeling it today though. wow.

ok off I go...

Thank you :) it was a lot of fun.

We took our mountain bikes and riped it up! SO much fun. I love mountain biking and I feel like I'm getting better at it. My husband couldn't believe it was me on the bike. I've in the past been more timid on those rocks ;)
We also got some tennis racquets and played a bit. Thats fun too! I chase the ball far more often than I should, but thats a good outlet for us. The weather was so beautiful this weekend that we took every opportunity to be out in it.
I cheated far more than I wanted to but we certainly worked it off. Tonight we actually had a MASSIVE dessert FOR dinner. yipes. However, when I got home this evening I was a pound lighter than when I left :) he he. love it.

My husband got me some rockin Oakley sunglasses to bike in with interchangable lenses and some Northface hiking/adventure racing shoes. They aren't really only hiking shoes, you can run in them and do whatever, and they are actually made for multisport racing. I LOVE THEM. I feel totally spoiled.

Anyway, I'm revived and ready to roar

green with envy

glad yer back lady!

FF! You have some nice rep power going on there brother!
How is training treating you? Last I looked you were on fire! Looking forward to hearing the report.

Doing nothing today. Lazy bum. Tomorrow on top of my regular Monday stuff I'll be going out with my teammate to practice for next weeks High Tec adventure race. We're practicing our double kayaking. This race is going to be one big "ha ha ha" I have a feeling we'll either be fighting or laughing our butts off the whole time. Its all for fun for us....however, we are both VERY competitive! Should be interesting.
